I'm temporarily postponing all my fanfics but this one, because I've already written 3 pages on it, but I'm only posting a little more than one right now, so if you demand more (which I hope you will!) I'll have more ready when I get blocked. Well, 'nuff chit-chat, here goes! Oh, a warning to all those under 12... This minisculely suggests something, so don't get all mad and stuff when you read it. I personally don't think it's that bad, but some of y'all might.

Love Conquers All: Jinny's Story

---Danielle Powell

Summary: Jinny attempts to quit drinking, and succeeds, until the 16th day, when Magda goes alone on a case and is injured, and Jinny feels it's her fault, so she totally breaks down. Then a certain special someone intervenes... Can she make it?

Well, Jinny Extead said, marking off a day on her calander, I made it fifteen days. It's been awful, but I made it. She flopped down on her bed and stared at her reflection in the mirror. She had expected to look tired and worn out, but she was really the opposite. Her cheeks were more clearly defined, her eyes weren't puffy, and her complection had more color in it. She felt better, too, although she didn't want to admit it. Her drinking had been her crutch for so many years, and now that it was gone, she almost missed it, but the pros of her quitting far out-weighed the cons. I wonder how ole Mag is doing... She looked at the clock. Oh, ten already? I'd better get to bed if I'm going to stay on schedule. Hah, Kate would like to hear that I'm on a schedule! She frowned. Okay, Extead, don't ruin this happy moment by thinking of her. You haven't had to think of her since the intervention, you don't have to think of her now. Just turn off the light and go to bed so the days will possibly go by faster. She turned out the light and went to sleep.

"Shh, Gabriel. Oh, stop!" Magda placed a finger over his mouth, seperating their lips. "Please, Ben's asleep!" she whispered. He gently caressed her face, then kissed her. The kiss deepened, and Magda slid her hand down to the bottom of his shirt, then up under it. He maneuvered her over to the couch, and they lowered themselved down onto it. Gabriel slowly pulled away from her.
"Are you sure about this?"
Magda smiled. "As ready as I can be..."

The next morning, Jinny woke up at five o'clock. She got out of bed and dressed, feeling more refreshed then ever. Maybe I should go and see how Magda's doing. After all, I haven't gotten out much the past two weeks, it'll do me some good. She got dressed and walked outside, squinting at the sun, which was unusually bright today. "Hah, it's shining for me..." she muttered, then rolled her eyes, both at her corny remark and for talking to herself. She looked at her car then shook her head. Might as well walk, I need excercize. When she was about almost to Magda's house, which was about half a mile from the station, she looked at her watch. "Crap! I should have drove the car, Magda's probably already at work." She turned around just in time to see a man pulling out a knife and stabbing a woman, then taking her purse and running. Jinny looked around for other people, but no one saw, well, no one that she knew of. She ran as fast as she could after the man who stabbed her, but she couldn't keep up. She did get a good look at him, though. About 6'1", white male, maybe mid 30's, tatoo on right arm, remember that! She hurried back over to the woman that was stabbed. She was lying in her own blood, with the knife still in the upper left area of her chest. Jinny slowly pulled it out, with her sleeve over her hand so as not to leave fingerprints, and heard a faint whisp of air, almost like wind blowing through leaves, and saw blood bubbling up from the woman's chest. The woman shuddered, and stopped breathing momentarily, until Jinny gave her CPR. Oh, G**, I thought I had helped kill her... I'm glad I had to know CPR!
"Help! Someone, please!" A man stuck his head out of an apartment window above them.
"What are you shouting about? Could you shut up, it's 8 o'clock for crying out loud!"
"Please, call 9-1-1, this woman was stabbed! I'm Inspector Ext- oh, um, tell them that when they call the police, tell them that Jinny Extead was a witness, they'll come over quicker."
"Um, okay, sure." He goes back to call. After about ten minutes and no response, Jinny reluctantly leaves the woman to find some help. She enters the nearest apartment, and practically knocks down the door by knocking so hard.
"Open the door, SFPD!" She failed to mention that she wasn't quite with the department anymore.
A lady slowly creaked open the door. "What do you want?"
"Let me use your phone, a woman was just stabbed."
"I'm sorry, I... I don't have a phone. Did you say she was stabbed? Is she okay?"
"Look, do you know CPR?"
"I can try..."
"Go out there and watch her, I'm going to get help." They quickly walk out the door, and Jinny leads her to the woman.
"Oh my gosh, that's my sister!" The lady dropped to her knees beside her.
"Look, I'm really sorry, but I have to go, okay?"
She paused. "Okay. But hurry!"
Jinny started jogging towards the police station.

"Mom, wake up! Come on, Poppa, I'll be late for school."
Magda slowly woke up to find Ben trying to look worried about school, but jumping around with a smile on his face. "Ben? What time is it?" She slowly raised up, but was held back by Gabriel's arm. She shook him, and he quickly woke up.
"What, Magda?"
"Gabriel, I'm late, and Ben is going to be late, could you take him to school for me again?"
"Sure, what time is it?" They both looked at Ben.
"Why are all your clothes on the floor?"
"Not now, Ben," Magda said, "Could you please tell us what time it is?"
"It's eight. Now could you tell me why your clothes are on the floor?"
"Later, Ben, could you go get mommy her robe?"
"Okay." He goes into the bathroom.
Magda buries her face in her hands, and Gabriel puts a supportive arm around her. "Hey, Mag, don't worry. I'm sure it will be okay."
"Gabriel, you don't understand, Captain will be all over me, it's my third time to be late in two weeks. It's not like me at all, and she'll be the first to point it out!"
Ben comes in with Magda's robe. "Here you go."
"Thank you, now both of you turn around." They both comply, and Magda puts her robe on. "Now, I'm really late, Gabriel, could you get Ben ready, too? I might not be too late if I hurry."
"Okay, let's go, Ben." Magda heads into the bathroom, and Gabriel and Ben head into Ben's room.

See, I never really never had a birthday party unless of course you wanna count my 15th, when my father showed up for cake, plastered in his underwear! Oh... yeah, by the way, my mom couldn't make it that year either because, well, sadly, six months earlier she BLEW HER BRAINS OUT!!!!!

Teddy:God, Jinny

Jinny: As for my brother, ugh... yeah, John... see, he just doesn't like you unless your American, white, and straight... and for me... a few weeks ago when uh... I had that nut case after me... yeah, I had to make a little list, of all the guys that I've slept with in the last two years. I couldn't remember some of their names.

Teddy: Stop.

Jinny: Ya know what? THIS IS WHO I AM, THIS IS MY FAMILY!!!! Come on, it's your turn. You go ahead, flash that all-American, prep school, choir boy smile and you tell me that it doesn't matter... it doesn't change anything... Yeah, that's what I thought!

When Jinny finally reaches the station, she hesitates, but after seeing Magda's car decides to go in. I just won't talk to Kate, I can talk to Magda. She walks in, and as she walks down the halls to the division, people stop and stare at her. So what if I'm covered in blood? She finally makes the last turn, and walks in to find Magda with a resigned look walking out of Kate's office. When she sees Jinny, she stops in her tracks for a few moments, then quickly walks over to her.
"Jinny, what happened?"
"There was a stabbing," Jinny said in a detached voice. "I could identify him if I had to."
"Are you okay? Is the person okay? Why didn't you call?"
"I tried, no one would let me in their house covered in blood, and I had no loose change. Ironic, isn't it? I was going to your house to tell you how much better I felt since I stopped drinking; I felt like nothing could go wrong. Huh, what a thought that was, I think alchohol connected me to the real world instead of taking me away from it. But anyway, I think that person might be dead now. She almost died earlier."
"Oh, Jinny, don't be saying things like that."
"But it's true. If only..." She stopped, and laughed dismally. "No, that would never happen, would it?"
"What?"
"Me coming back here to work. Not with Ms. McCafferty running the big show."
"Jin, you're coming back, Kate wants you back."
"Listen, could we just not talk about this now? There's a woman out there either dying or dead."
"Right, I'll go speak to Captain about it, she'll call the hospital." Magda walks into Kate's office.
Jinny walks over to her old desk and sits down in the seat. After a minute, Kate and Magda quickly walk out of the office.
"Jinny, can you tell us what he looked like?" Kate asked.
"Yeah, sure." She paused, thinking. "6'1", white male, about mid thirtys, and a tatoo on his right arm, I think. It could have been his left. Is that up to your standards?" She asked Kate sardonically.
"Thanks, Jinny. Magda, pick someone, and go out there as soon as you can. Jinny, you can wash up, you might want to stay here for a sketch artist."
"Oh, thank you so much for allowing me to use the bathroom, I'm eternally indebted." Jinny walked out of the room.
"What's her problem?" Kate asked.
"Hmm, that's Jinny for you. She still thinks you're out to get her, but from what I've heard, she's been sober for fifteen days straight."
"Wow, new record, huh?"
"For Jinny it is... Listen, do I have to pick another partner? Jinny'll never forgive me if I do, and I don't feel right with anyone else. I'm fine without one, I've gone this whole time without a partner once!"
"Magda, you've been on desk duty."
"Well, I'm sorry, I can't have another partner." She started out the door, but bumped into Jinny as she was walking in. "Sorry," she said, and walked out.
"Look," Jinny said, obviously nervous about being there, "can I come back tomorrow or something? I don't see any reason to stay here and hope that the sketch artist will have a break and come here when you can just call and ask to see him at a certain time tomorrow. Hey, I'm a former cop, remember?"
"And you're going to be one again, right? Magda tells me you've cleaned up."
"So what, I'm not drinking, big deal. But what's the point of coming back when you'll be all over me every second of every day? I'd rather be unemployed and broke than working for you!"
"Well, Jinny, I'm sorry you feel that way, because I was getting ready to offer a shortening on your suspension. But now I'm not, so if you're going home, I'd like you to do so now."
"Fine with me, call me if you need me to work with a sketch artist." She walked out the door.
Now I know why Magda and Jinny are best friends, they both have the same amount of dedication and loyalty. Now, I'm not sure if that's a good thing... Kate walked back into her office.

As Magda went to the address Jinny told her, she found herself growing more and more nervous. Why didn't I just get a partner for this? I mean, Jinny will understand, she saw what the guy could do... But hey, can't turn back now, might as well give it all I've got. But Ben... Okay, I can't think like that now, I don't even know if I'll find him. "Okay, stop!" she yelled, and startled herself. Well, at least I've gotten my mind off of what I'm about to do. Hey, why am I stressing about this? I've done this a million times before. Oh, yeah, with Jinny there to back me up, but that shouldn't be a problem. I mean, I did it once without her. And almost got killed. She pulled into the alley where the shooting occured. She saw paramedics, and cops from a different division that must have heard from the grapevine about it, and decided to check it out. She got out of her car, walked up to the scene, and noticed that they were just now loading the woman into the ambulance, but in a black bag. She slowed her walk and supressed the urge to puke, barely succeeding. When she reached the nearest cop, she flashed her badge. "Inspector Ramirez. Have you found any evidence?"
"Yes," a man said, and held up a knife in a plastic bag. "This was found beside her, presumably the murder weapon. Here you go," he said, handing it to her.
"I'm going to go look for the guy, one of our officers was a witness and got a good look at him."
"Why isn't she out here now?"
"She's, uh... She's on maternity leave, and she's a little embarassed about it, she's not married."
"Okay... Well, good luck. Where's your partner?"
"She'll be showing up in a little while, I just came out early to see what kind of situation we have. Well, wish me luck..." She started walking down the alley.

When Jinny walked out of the division, she saw CD and Angela walking up to it, laughing and talking. When Angela saw her, she tapped CD's shoulder and pointed. They both smiled and walked over to her.
"Hey, girl!" Angela said. "Why are you back so soon? I mean, you're staying, right?"
"Uh, no. I just saw something happen, and I had to come down."
"Oh, are you alright?" CD asked. "I mean, you didn't get hurt or anything, did you?"
"No, I'm fine. Hey, I really gotta go now, I'm meeting up with someone later."
Angela smiled, but CD beat her to the question. "Is it Theodore?"
"No. Can I go now?"
"Sure, we're not holding you here," Angela said.
"Well, bye." Jinny walked off.
CD turned to Angela, concerned. "What's up with her?"
"I don't know, maybe she's still mad?"
CD looked off into the distance and shook her head slightly. "I don't think so, she's got something else on her mind. She's never like that unless she's been drinking..."
"Hey, did you notice something? I didn't smell beer... And she looks better, too."
"Yeah, I saw that too."
"Do you think she really-"
"Only one way to know... We can ask her tomorrow, or maybe if the captain wants to call her in or something. But right now we need to go in, Kate might send out backup or something."
Angela looked up at her for a minute, then laughed. "Okay, lets go in."

Magda slowly turned another corner. Nothing yet... A movement beside a dumpster caught her eye. There she saw a man that fit Jinny's description, and another man holding a brown bag. He held the bag out, and the other man nodded, and handed him a large roll of bills. The guy counts the money, then shakes his head and holds out his hand. The other one reached in his pocket and drew out a gun.
"Freeze, SFPD!" Magda held her gun with one hand, and quickly flashed her badge with the other. "Drop the gun!" The man that recieved the money bolted then, and Magda ran up to the man with the gun. "Okay, I shoot, you shoot, maybe we both die, but what would be gained? Please, put the gun down, and I won't hurt you."
"I'd rather die than be arrested by a woman. Get a man out here, maybe he could do the job, but you? No, I don't think so."
"You don't want to know what I can do, but you'll find out if you don't put the gun down, and hold your hands up!"
"I think we have company."
"Wha-" A hand grabbed her mouth, and the guy in front of her grabbed her gun. It's happening again! But this time I don't have Jinny...
"I don't like it when my nose gets broken repeatedly by cops, especially women cops. I knew someone would come, but you? Hah, where's your partner?" the man behind her said.
Magda tried to speak, but her mouth was still covered. "Oh, I'm sorry. Mike, let the poor woman speak," the man in front of her said.
Magda looked behind her. "Y... You're the one..."
"Yeah, how'd ya know? Look, I'm not gonna make ya beg, that was Vance's kinda thing. I have something else in mind..." His eyes raked her body, and she shuddered. "Charley, you can go now, get away before the cops catch you." The man with her gun started to jog away, but Mike called him back. "Charley, the gun.
"I ain't giving you the gun!"
"You have another one!"
"Yeah, but when I start to go away you might shoot me."
"Hmm... You know me too well. Look, if you don't give me the gun, you'll never get your turn at her. I'll do her, kill her, and hide her where no one, including you, can find her. Understood?"
"I'd shoot you."
"Yeah, you would."
"You know, Mike, you've gotten a lot rougher, what happened to ya?"
"Magdalena Ramirez, mother of Benjamin Ramirez and fiance of Gabriel Hernandez."
"But... How did you know I was engaged? I haven't told anyone!"
"Security cameras, babe. Now, let's go." He grabbed her hand and tried to pull her behind the dumpster, but she wouldn't move. "Now, Magda, come on, don't make me force you."
"What, do you expect me to go along and let you rape me? I don't think so."
"Hey, Charley, come on, gimme the gun!"
"No way!"
"Fine then!" Mike grabbed Magda and started kissing her, and then ripped her shirt. He tore it off of her, and then started running his fingers through her hair.
"Mike, stop it!" Charley yelled. "I changed my mind, I don't wanna do this!"
Mike reluctantly broke away from Magda, and she tried to bolt. He grabbed her arm, but she broke away. Mike pulled out a knife and threw it at her.
"No, Magda, watch out!"
The knife hit her, and she went down.

This is all you're getting for today, I'm going to watch my lil cuz ride in the Grand Entry at the Sallisaw (yuck!) Rodeo tonight. And tomorrow I'm spending the night at Aja's house (with Kenzie... muahahaha!!! fanfics will definitely start coming after then!) so I'll only be able to post during the day. Sorry, guys. But here's some more that I just wrote...

As Jinny walked by the place where the murder was, she slowed down, pausing to look at the blood on the sidewalk. She then noticed a car that looked a lot like Magda's parked beside it. Hmm, must be the cop car of the future... Because I know Magda wouldn't be here right now, she couldn't. Well, I hope not. Then she heard a scream. Oh my gosh, that sounded like Magda... She walked up to Magda's car and tried to open the door, but it was locked. She tore off the bottom half of her shirt, wrapped it around her hand, and punched through her window, getting only minor cuts on her face and wrists. She reached in and grabbed her mobile phone. Come on, Kate, this is the one time I need you, she thought on the third ring. Just as she was about to hang up...
"McCafferty."
"Kate, I'm calling from Magda's car phone, and I think she's hurt. I heard a scream, and-"
"Now, calm down, Jinny."
"What do you want me to do?"
"Go out there, find her, and see what the situation is. And do anything you have to to save her, got it? You have my authority."
"Sure, thanks, Cap. Send over an ambulance right now, if you can."
"Okay, bye."
Jinny tossed the phone back into the car, and started jogging to the scream. Upon getting closer, she heard Magda's weak voice, and another man's, but she couldn't tell what he was saying. As she rounded another corner, she saw Magda on the ground, and a man kneeling beside her. He saw her, and raised one of his hands, the other on her shoulder.
"She needs help, she's hurt."
"Back away with your hands up!"
"What are you, a cop?"
"Yes," Magda said, "she is. She's my partner."
"Oh, okay. Look, I'm not gonna hurt her."
Jinny noticed her ripped shirt. "What happened to her shirt? You didn't do it to her, did you?"
"No! Another guy did that. You gotta trust me!"
"Back away," Jinny said firmly.
"Okay, okay!" He backed away, and Jinny rushed over to her downed partner. "Mag, are you okay? What happened?"
"This guy... He threw a knife at me, and he hit my back, but I'm fine, really."
"Then why won't you stand up? I mean, if you're hurt that bad-"
"He wouldn't let me stand up, I really can." She held her hand out to Jinny, and Jinny warily took it.
"Mag, you don't have to do it, just stay here and wait for the ambulance."
"Magda slowly pulled herself up. "Too late. Now, I'm not hurt that bad, am I?"
"Well... I guess not. But Magda, sit down or something, don't just stand up. Okay?"
"Okay..." Magda started to lower herself down, but started coughing a little. "Can I just stand up? It hurts when I bend over."
"Sure, but lean up against the wall or something. Magda," Jinny said while she was helping her over to the wall. "Why did you come out here without a partner? What if something worse happened to you?"
"You're my partner, Jinny. Anyway, nothing else could have happened. I... Sorry, Charley, I gotta tell her. Charley killed the woman, and then I kind of caught him beside the dumpster giving someone else her money. He pulled out a gun, I told him to drop the weapon, and the guy he was paying ran away. Sorry, I didn't get a good look at him."
"I could identify him if you wanted me to," Charley said. "I'm tired of all this, I want to start over again."
"You would do that?"
"Yeah. Would it help you?"
"Yes, thank you."
"Um..." Jinny looked at her. "There's more. There was an old friend of ours there. You remember Mike?" Jinny shook her head, and looked confused. "Uh, one of the guys from the alley."
"Oh my G**, are you okay? He didn't try anything, did he? Is he the one that ripped your shirt?"
Charley looked at her, expecting her to tell her what Mike tried with her. "Uh, yeah, but he was holding my shirt, trying to keep me near him until his buddys could get here. I tried to run, and then... You know."
Magda started coughing again, a little harder this time. "Mag, you okay? The ambulance should be here in just a second."
Magda leaned over and spit out a little blood. "I'm fine. But... I just hope they get here soon, I want to get this over with so I can go home."
"Magda, please tell me you cut your mouth..."
"Uh, yeah, when I fell, that's all."
"Why do I get the feeling you're lying to me? Magda, it's me, Jin. You can talk to me! Please, tell me the truth, I don't want you hurt worse than you are now."
"Jinny, nothing's wrong with me, but thanks for asking." They heard an ambulance, and Magda sighed in relief, then started coughing again, and when she was done, spit out even more blood.
"Magda, come on, we need to get you in the ambulance." They started walking towards the ambulance. "By the way, I kind of had to break your window to get to a phone. Do you mind?"
"Not really." Magda noticed the pinprick cuts all over her face, and then the larger ones on her wrist. "Jinny, your wrist! Don't tell me you used your fist... Couldn't you have knocked on someone's door or something?"
"I tried this morning, no one would let me in. Look, I'm fine. Hey, Charley, you gonna come?" She looked back to him. "Ya gotta come sometime, why not get a ride?"
"Oh, yeah, I'll come." He jogged towards them. They all started walking again. After a few steps, Magda stopped, and leaned over, breathing heavily.
"Magda, what's wrong? Do you need to stop and rest or something? We could let them come find us, it's okay."
"No... No, I'm okay. Lets just go."
"Okay, if you say so." They started walking slowly, and finally reached the ambulance crew, who was walking towards them, with Kate following. When Kate saw them, she started walking quickly to them.
"Magda, are you okay? Jinny called, and... What happened?"
"Um, can Jinny tell you? I'm kind of..." She stopped, and leaned over again. "I gotta... rest..."
"Magda?" Jinny looked at her friend with deep concern. Blood stains from her wound started near the shoulder blade of her right shoulder, and ran all the way down to her waist. She was breathing hard, her face was pale, and little sweat droplets were on her nose.
"Okay, everyone back away." The ambulance crew came up with a stretcher. The put her on it, and when they were loading her onto the ambulance, she passed out. They shut the doors, and left.
"Hey, wait a second, doesn't someone get to ride with her?" Jinny asked.
"Normally, but I told them to just go as fast as they can this time, we would just be in the way."
"Hey, they wouldn't let people in if they couldn't handle 'em in there! You just wanted a reason to-"
"Jinny, what happened to you?" Kate asked in her quiet tone of voice she used sometimes when talking about Jinny. She was really worried about her, but she didn't always want it to show in her voice.
"Magda's car door was locked, I needed a phone. I'm gonna pay for it, so you can't charge me with anything, and she said it was okay."
"Don't you need to go get that treated? You might still have glass in you."
"I'm fine, now could we just go to the hospital? Wait a second, is Charley coming with us?"
"Charley?"
"Yeah, Charley, this is Captain Kate McCafferty, Captain, this is Charley... it's Charley. He can identify a guy for us that got him to kill the woman."
"The woman's name is Jessica Blumenthal, we just found out. It's Theodore's little cousin, he was pretty close to her."
"Okay... But anyway, is Charley going to the hospital with us?"
"You can drop me off at the police station if you want, I don't mind. Or you can take me home, or you can do whatever with me, I don't mind. But if I do go home, I'm gonna get killed."
"Why?"
"Mike or Vance will get me."
"Wait a second, you mean our Mike and Vance?" Kate asked incredulously.
"If you mean the ones that had Magda in the alley, yeah. And have someone check out her house, between her tape players and speakers is a camera Mike used to spy on her. He knows all about her, her son, and her fiance."
"Wait a second," Jinny said, "her fiance?"
"Yeah, I think his name is Gabriel, or something like that."
"She never told me... I'll just let her think I don't know until she's ready to tell me."
"Wow, the Jinny I know would have barged up to her and said, 'You're engaged? Why didn't you tell me? I can't believe this!', not, 'She never told me...' Are you sure you're Jinny Extead?" Kate asked.
"Come on, let's go. Charley, I guess we'll just frop you off at the police station. Is that okay, Captain?"
"Yeah, that'll be fine." They get into Kate's car.
"What about Magda's car?" Jinny asked.
"We'll come back for it. Did she have anything valuable in there?"
"Her phone, but that's all I noticed at the time. Um, wait a second. I forgot something at my house I might need, I'll just go back. I need my car, too."
"Wait a second, you've been walking all day?"
"Yeah, it was nice out."
"Get out, you're not Jinny."
Jinny smiled at Kate and got out. "Thanks, Cap. See you at the hospital, bye Charley."
Kate drove off, and Jinny started walking back home.

Magda woke up, and saw a blurry mix of white and brown all around her. She blinked a few more times, and when her vision cleared, she saw she was in a hospital room. The tv was on, and on the news, she saw this...
"Next at six... A female police officer was shot, was it an act of prejudice? Gas prices are rising, and you can find the cheapest prices in your area on our latest 'Price Watchers.' Stay tuned to 40/29, for your live and local hometown news"
She reached over on the panel on her bed and hit the nurse button.
"Yes?"
"Um, can I see a doctor? I just woke up, I don't know what's wrong."
"Ramirez? Oh, yes, thank you for telling me."
After a few moments, a doctor walked in. "Hi, Magda- I can call you Magda, right? I'm Dr. Bruce Glover."
"Sure, hi, Dr. Glover."
"Call me Bruce. So, you want to know what's wrong with you? Well, for starters, you have a severe laceration of the skin on your back, in between your right scapula and spine, but that will heal. What I'm worried about is the depth of it. We think, since your friend says you've been coughing up blood, is that it might have punctured your right lung. We're going to have to keep you here for observation, and if you ever cough up any more blood or anything, just tell a nurse. Okay?"
"Okay."
"How are you feeling? Well, beside the fact that you just got stabbed." He smiled.
Magda slightly smiled back. "I just want to see my son, can I call him? I don't even know if he knows about this yet."
Bruce pointed to a weird looking thing on the table. "There it is, but dial a one first. And this," he said, picking up a white box with a dial and two buttons on it, "is the remote. I think you can figure it out."
"Yeah, thanks." He left, and Magda picked up the phone to dial.

Sorry about it not being much. Well, buh-byezies! (lol, I'm listening to a song that mentions sexy langerie... When Jinny reached he apartment, she paused at her dresser drawer. I'm not turning back to beer, besides, I don't have any there anyway. But... She slightly shook her head and quickly walked to her bedroom. She opened a drawer, pulled out some clothes, and then went into the bathroom to change. I wish- No, I don't. I'm past him, I'm not going to get involved with him again. But he was so nice. And he really didn't deserve what I did. Oh well, no taking back the past now. She walked out of the bathroom in fresh clothes, and put some bandaids on her wrist. Maybe a little drink... Surely I have time to stop by The Anchorside on the way... She bit her lip. Okay, one drink, that's it. She grabbed her keys and walked out the door.

"Hello?"
"Gabriel, hi. Um, have you heard about what happened?"
"No, Mag, I just got back from picking up Ben from school. Is everything alright?"

Jinny walked up to the door of the Anchorside, and slowly went in. She looked around, and took in the familiar sights, sounds, and smells with anticipation of her first drink in fifteen days. She walked up to the bar and sat down.
"Hey, Jinny, I haven't seen you in a while. Want the usual?"
"Just a Miller Lite, I've been cutting down."
"Oh, yeah, that's good to hear. Boss isn't gonna be glad to hear we're losing one of our best customers, though."
"Oh, um... yeah." She got her beer and quickly took a drink. She felt the cool, bubbly liquid slide down her throat, and smiled. She then looked at her watch. "Oh, shoot, look, I really have to go to the hospital, bye! Put it on my tab."
"Okay, bye Jin."
Jinny walked out the door, and quickly got in her car. She drove towards the hospital, and when she got there, leaned back heavily in her seat. Why did I have to drink that? It didn't really help me any... And I disappointed Mag and everyone else. But maybe they won't be able to tell that I had a little. I'll need some gum or something. She dug around in her purse, and pulled out some Wrigley's Polar Ice. She popped it in her mouth, quickly got out of the car, and walked into the hospital.

Magda heard a knock on her door and quickly wiped away a tear. She cleared her throat and said, "Come in."
Jinny walked in. "Hey, Mag. How ya doin'?"
"Hey, Jin, I'm doing okay. You?"
"Oh, I'm fine." She took a seat next to Magda's bed. Upon looking closer at her friend's face, she noticed puffy, red eyes, along with slightly swollen lips that you wouldn't notice unless you've had the kind of treatment that causes them before. G**, please tell me she didn't... "Mag, one question. You're sure that he didn't try anything with you? Because, if he did, you can tell me about it."
"Well, you sure didn't tell me..." Magda muttered under her breath.
"What?"
"Nothing. Look, Jin, he didn't do anything, he didn't try anything, and if he was thinking about it, I couldn't tell, okay?" she said, clearly agitated. "Now, can we talk about something else?"
"Uh, sure, sorry. What do you want to talk about?"
"What-" Gabriel and Ben slowly opened the door, and Ben ran in.
"Mom!"
Magda smiled. "Hey, Papi, hi Gabriel."
Gabriel walked up to Magda and gave her a quick kiss. "Hi, Mag."
Jinny fought to supress a smile. "I'll just leave you three alone, okay?"
"No, you don't have to-"
"Yes, I do." She smiled. "Hope you get better, Mag.
"Thanks, Jin, thanks for coming."
Jinny walked out and left them alone.

Thanxzies to all y'all faithful readers out there! Well, without further adue (sp? lol), here's the end! Read a post I'm about to post in a new topic for further info.

Crap, Jinny, make her feel a lot worse by telling her she looked like she had just been raped. Well, not quite tell her that, but imply it! And you're the one that got her into this mess in the first place... You know, if Magda was like most other people, she would have totally forgotten about you a long time ago... "But that's the point..." Jinny whispered. "She's not like most other people." She shook her head, and pulled into the Anchorside, suprised that she wasn't pulled over for speeding on the way over, she had to be doing about seventy in a fifty-five mile per hour speed zone. Luckily there was little traffic, or she would have barreled right through it and probably caused a wreck. Yeah, Jin, add some more onto your list of people you've put in the hospital. You know what, make a bet with John about how many you can get in there, you'd probably set a new record or something. She punched the dashboard, muttered a few curses, and walked into the Anchorside. She sat down at the bar, and waited for the bartender to serve her.
"Jin, you back?"
"Yes, now please, I'm not in the mood to talk, just give me a bottle of gin or something and let me get out of here, my stash was emptied a long time ago."
"Yes ma'am! Coming right up." He walked off, and in a few moments brought back a large bottle filled with clear liquid. "Here you go, want it on your tab?"
"Nope, you know what? I'm just gonna pay off my tab right now." She reached into her purse, pulled out her wallet, and get all the bills out and threw them on the bar in front of him. "All the extra, keep as a tip, you've had it coming to ya." She grabbed her bottle and walked out the door. She started to walk to her car, but was grabbed on the arm by a man. He put a hand over her mouth and pulled her into the alley. Jinny tried to scream, but couldn't.
"Jin, please, be quiet. I just wanted to talk to you, and I know you wouldn't talk to me any other way." She sighed as she heard a familiar voice. She pried his hand off of her mouth and turned around to face him.
"Teddy, what the heck are you doing here? And why are you doing this to me? Do you know what kind of a day it's been for me? Trust me, alleys are off limits, so can we talk out on the sidewalk like normal people?"
"Oh, um, sorry, I was kind of hoping you had a good day, it took all my courage just to come out here." They started walking out to the sidewalk, and stopped when they were back in front of the Anchorside.
"You were hoping I had a good day? Well, you know what? Me too. But things don't turn out like you want them to, so you might as well expect the worst or have no hopes at all. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a date with someone." She motions towards the bottle, and starts walking towards her car.
"Wait! Jinny, please, we really need to talk." He ran to catch up, and grabbed her arm. "Please. I mean, I think you owe it to me after blowing up at me, then turning around and cheating on me!"
"Whoa." Jinny turned around to face him, and pointed her finger in his face. "You listen to me. I was going to say yes to the weekend, then you go and cancel on me. I go out to the Anchorside, I have a little too much to drink, and so what, I have a semi-good time with a guy. Is it my fault that you lied to me?"
"Okay, so I lied to you?" Teddy said, backing up with his hands in the air. "I don't think I've ever lied to you, no, I'm sure of it!" He looked at her, thinking she might have been convinced, but his hopeful glance was met with a cold stare. "Please, Jinny, tell me."
She looked around to be sure no one was watching, then lowered her voice to just above a whisper. "You said you loved me," she said with a choked voice. "But now I know that I was wrong to believe you, that I was wrong to think that for once, a man would stand beside me when I happened to fall for him. But no, you were just like the others, you left me after I had opened up to you. Now, Mr. Blumenthal, I'm afraid that our meeting must be cut short, goodbye." He started to protest, but her ice cold look and fiery attitude was something he knew not to meddle with.
Hey, I have to give it all I've got... She's got to know that I love her! "Jinny, please, I love you!" She stopped beside her open car door.
She looked back at him, and he saw she had tears in her eyes. "Excuse me?"
"Jin, I love you, I always have, you know that."
"Actually, I don't."
"Jin, I-"
"But..." She raised her finger again. "I'm willing to give you a chance to prove it. Not tonight, but maybe later, it's been a bad day."
"How about this, we go to your place and you can tell me about it? I promise to listen..."
She looks down at the bottle, then back up at him. "Sure, what the heck?" She threw the bottle over her shoulder, and the both got in her car.

"So, Magda, how are you feeling?" Gabriel asked.
She weakly smiled. "I'm fine. I... um..." I can't tell him. Not yet. "Gabriel, could you do me a favor?"
"Sure, anything."
"Can you go out there and ask when I'm going home?"
"Okay, sure." He left, and Magda leaned back heavily into her pillow and shut her eyes.
"What's wrong?" Ben asked.
"Oh, I think I'm just tired." She put a hand on her head and slightly grimaced.
"Mom, are you okay?" He asked again, worried about his mother.
"I..." Her breathing became labored, and she held her hand out. Benjamin took it, and walked up to his mother, as close as he could get. "Ben, you know I love you, right? And if..." She swallowed, and breathed in deeply, with little regard to the pain. "If anything should ever happen to me, would you want to live with your dad?"
Ben's eyes were watering. "But mommy, nothing's gonna happen to you! I'll take care of you, and dad will too! You'll get better, I promise!" He started to cry. "I promise!" He watched Magda look down and slowly shake her head, as sobs began to build up inside of her. "Mommy, I love you..." he said quietly. That broke Magda down, and she openly cried with her son, holding Ben close to her.
"Great news, Mag, doctor said..." As Gabriel walked in, he looked at them, both suprised and concerned. "What's wrong?" He walked over to Magda's side.
Ben looked up at him, and tried to lessen the flow of tears. "Mommy thinks... She doesn't feel good..." He sniffed, and ran over to hug his dad. He whispered, "I'm scared..."
"Mag, do you need a doctor?" She shook her head yes, and he ran out of the room. Both Magda and Ben could hear him yelling at the doctors, trying to get them to hurry. As Ben looked over to his mother, he smiled as she stopped crying, but then his eyes widened and his lip quivered as he saw her reddened face. Benjamin was the last to see his mother struggle for a breath, then lie still...
