I was.

Of all the shows I watched in endless reruns when I was growing up, The Odd Couple was probably the first one I saw that had a finale episode.

Other shows like Gilligans Island were cancelled before they had a chance to have a finale.

I think the Odd Couple finale is very good.

Interesting point and you are right, shows like the Brady Bunch and Gilligans Island lacked finales for various reasons. I never did like Gloria though. I actually liked his girlfriend from upstairs better.

I thought it was a great way to end the series. The best part was at the very end when Felix throws all the trash on Oscars floor and leaves then comes right back and picks it all up.

For a show that was practically on the verge of cancellation at the end of each season, it's pretty amazing that it got a proper sendoff. A lot of shows that lasted much longer than The OC never even got that.

I love the ending. In fact, it's one of my favorite episodes of the series. It's nice seeing Felix, who wanted nothing more than to get back with Gloria throughout the run of the show to ACTUALLY get back with Gloria. It was a happy ending all around. I especially love the part when they say "I do" and Oscar gets so happy and he starts singing "Singing in the Rain" under the leaky ceiling. Now I'm worried that that singing part will be edited on the DVD. :(

My DVD worries aside, I love the ending.

yea, when they say their goodbyes, Felix says something like "And here's my going-away present to you". Then he picks up the wastebasket and dumps it on the floor, then puts it down. Oscar says something like "And for my gift to you, know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna pick that up". Then they say something else, and Felix turns and walks out the door. After he closes it, Oscar says "I'm not gonna pick it up" and walks into his room. Then Felix opens the door again, sees the trash still on the floor and says "I knew he wouldn't pick it up" then bends down and does it.

My DVD worries aside, I love the ending.I remember reading somewhere, back when the show ended, an interview with Jack Klugman talking about it, and he was saying that when Oscar was real happy and dancing around at the end, and saying "I'M FREE! I'M FREE!" that's exactly how Jack felt after doing the show for 5 years.

Yes! During the show's run, Felix always wanted Gloria back and (I thought) Gloria still had feelings for him.. And Oscar wanted his apartment back -- LOL.. I thought this was the perfect ending!

Yes I was. It was one of the best series finales ever. The last scene especially was just hysterical. It wrapped up the series well and yet it wasn't mushy or maudlin.

Yes and no. It would have been nice to see more of Gloria in the last season. She really hadn't been in an episode for a while and all of a sudden she is there. Maybe she could have made a cameo when Felixs kids were in episodes. It would have also been nice to see more of there friends. Miriam wasn't even mentioned in the episode. Speed was in an episode during the season when Oscar almost got married. I liked it for an ending, but it seemed rush. Maybe even being a two parter would have helped.
