View Full Version : My Mom said that Carl was too FAT to be a Cop-lol TVFactFan 08-31-2008, 02:43 AM That they should have another occupation for the father instead of a police officer-lol Anyone agree? I never really gave it much thought Furienna 08-31-2008, 02:55 AM Well yeah, maybe a policeman should be in shape, so he can run after people etc. And there was an episode, where Lieutenant Murtaugh wanted Carl to work out at a gym. But I still believe there are fat cops out there. Jessica 08-31-2008, 07:26 AM Well yeah, maybe a policeman should be in shape, so he can run after people etc. And there was an episode, where Lieutenant Murtaugh wanted Carl to work out at a gyn. But I still believe there are fat cops out there. Yes, I guess so. But otherwise, he was a good cop. DSfan 08-31-2008, 01:02 PM He isn't a cop lol he is an actor but it's not like he's obese just a bit overweight. catlover79 08-31-2008, 01:08 PM There are overweight cops out there, for sure. But I do think Carl carried his donut fixation a bit too far. Mr. Television 08-31-2008, 01:14 PM We have overweight cops down here. lol Jessica 08-31-2008, 01:39 PM He isn't a cop lol he is an actor but it's not like he's obese just a bit overweight. I know he's an actor. JulieSomoski 08-31-2008, 04:01 PM I don't think I could see Carl as anything else. Him being a cop gave the show a lot of storylines to deal with. Jessica 08-31-2008, 04:25 PM I agree. I think he looks like a cop. GARFIELDKOOL 08-31-2008, 04:30 PM He was too fat, but we saw Carl more as a brainy cop than a physical cop. The episode where Jaleel White played Urkel's thug cousin O Dog or whatever his name was was an example. Some hood came looking for O Dog, Carl answered the door, and told the hood he can take him to where O Dog was. It turned out, the hood was wanted by the police, and Carl recognized him, and instead of taking him to where O Dog was, he took him to jail. That episode showed me Carl was a great cop, reguardless of his weight. Furienna 08-31-2008, 09:59 PM That's right. He was really good in his work. Maybe he even became captain one day? Brian Damage 08-31-2008, 10:12 PM I will agree, he should have been something else, because that house they were living in didn't add up to a police man's salary. GARFIELDKOOL 08-31-2008, 10:17 PM I will agree, he should have been something else, because that house they were living in didn't add up to a police man's salary. It was an old house out in the suburbs, but it was a big nice home. Brian Damage 08-31-2008, 10:18 PM It was an old house out in the suburbs, but it was a big nice home. Exactly, cops don't make that kind of bread. lol Furienna 08-31-2008, 10:32 PM But don't forget that Harriette always worked too, and in the beginning of the show's run, they also had Rachel and Estelle to help pay for the house. And no one said the Winslows were rich. They never could afford much more than the bare essentials. JulieSomoski 09-01-2008, 01:34 PM But don't forget that Harriette always worked too, and in the beginning of the show's run, they also had Rachel and Estelle to help pay for the house. And no one said the Winslows were rich. They never could afford much more than the bare essentials. That's true. They weren't like the Huxtables - we always saw Carl being tight with his money, especially when paying the bills and all that. They had the basics, but that was about it. They couldn't afford to send Laura to Harvard, and it was shown that they had a second mortgage on their house. Furienna 09-01-2008, 03:16 PM Yeah, and you don't have to be rich to have a house in a suburb. You just have to handle your economy. TVFactFan 09-01-2008, 03:25 PM The Winslows did not live in the suburbs Furienna 09-01-2008, 03:27 PM So where did they live? Brieannas21 09-01-2008, 03:29 PM The Winslows did not live in the suburbs Yes they did TVFactFan 09-01-2008, 03:30 PM So where did they live? A Neighborhood in Chicago where people went to work everyday. They didn't live in the GHETTO but defintely not the Suburbs TVFactFan 09-01-2008, 03:32 PM Yes they did That neighborhood is not the sububrs-lol It reminds me of a neighbrohood here in Philly called OVERBROOK, very nice and have working families but not the suburbs because it's still in the city. The winslows lived IN CHICAGO-lol The suburbs is OUTSIDE CHICAGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JulieSomoski 09-01-2008, 04:37 PM I'd say they lived in the suburbs. Living in Chicago doesn't mean it has to be the inner city. IT can also include the surrounding neighborhoods. Like here in Michigan, Detroit is considered the actual city and its close suburbs. Brieannas21 09-01-2008, 04:51 PM That neighborhood is not the sububrs-lol It reminds me of a neighbrohood here in Philly called OVERBROOK, very nice and have working families but not the suburbs because it's still in the city. The winslows lived IN CHICAGO-lol The suburbs is OUTSIDE CHICAGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chicago is just the name of the city, in cities you do have suburbs. I lived in downtown Chicago for a year and a half and right down the street a couple of miles you were in the suburbs. What do you think a suburb is? Furienna 09-01-2008, 05:08 PM They either live in a suburb close to the inner city or in the very outskirts of the city. Lorimar Television 09-01-2008, 10:05 PM Well the closing credits show that they live close to the city, but it looks like a regular town close by to them. MikeLutton 09-01-2008, 11:03 PM carl is the best i love have him as cop in our town TVFactFan 09-01-2008, 11:51 PM The Winslows lived in one of the nicer neighborhoods of Chicago but not the Suburbs. Suburbs means you are on the outskirts of the city. Remember early in the show when the Winslows were riding their bikes in downtown chicago? That means they lived in the city. Schmoopie 09-02-2008, 12:09 AM I don't really think that physical appearance had anything to do with his being a police officer. His job made the show a lot more interesting! Andrea catlover79 09-02-2008, 12:11 AM I don't really think that physical appearance had anything to do with his being a police officer. His job made the show a lot more interesting! Andrea I personally loved the time Mother Winslow beat up some crook who was giving Carl a hard time. :brent Brieannas21 09-02-2008, 12:57 AM The Winslows lived in one of the nicer neighborhoods of Chicago but not the Suburbs. Suburbs means you are on the outskirts of the city. Remember early in the show when the Winslows were riding their bikes in downtown chicago? That means they lived in the city. They lived on the outskirts of the city, that's why it's called a suburb. Just like in Dallas there is a neighborhood called Highland Park that is about 3 or 4 miles away from downtown and yet it's called a suburb. Schmoopie 09-02-2008, 01:33 AM They lived on the outskirts of the city, that's why it's called a suburb. Just like in Dallas there is a neighborhood called Highland Park that is about 3 or 4 miles away from downtown and yet it's called a suburb. That is so true! My dad used to live there! There are a ton of suburbs in Seattle. I live about 30 minutes away, but within the "city" there are quite a few! Andrea Lorimar Television 09-02-2008, 08:48 PM Like I said, you can see the city skylines behind their house in the closing credits! ThomasE 09-02-2008, 11:38 PM Reggie Vel Johnson played cop roles in other movies. "Too fat to be a cop?" Nah. I can still picture him a cop and playing the part very well. TVFactFan 09-02-2008, 11:39 PM Like I said, you can see the city skylines behind their house in the closing credits! Exactly, which means they lived in the city ThomasE 09-02-2008, 11:43 PM It seemed as though they lived in the city from the closing credit footage. Brieannas21 09-02-2008, 11:46 PM How does it look like they actually lived in the city? When it looks as if downtown was behind their house a few miles away? TVFactFan 09-02-2008, 11:49 PM How does it look like they actually lived in the city? When it looks as if downtown was behind their house a few miles away? Brieanna every city has neighborhoods where you can still see the skyline-lol My mom lives in West Philly and can see the skyline from her bedroom. Brieannas21 09-03-2008, 12:01 AM Brieanna every city has neighborhoods where you can still see the skyline-lol My mom lives in West Philly and can see the skyline from her bedroom. If you are a few miles out of the downtown area that is called a suburb Definition of Suburb- An outlying part of a city or town, a smaller community adjacent to or within commuting distance of a city : the residential area on the outskirts of a city or large town. So the Winslows lived in a suburb. And I never said that if you live in a suburb you couldn't see the city skyline. If you read my above posts, I stated that there is a neighborhood in Dallas that is 4 miles from downtown Dallas and it's called a suburb. There are two actually that are right next to each other and they're both about 4 miles from Downtown. TVFactFan 09-03-2008, 12:04 AM If you are a few miles out of the downtown area that is called a suburb Definition of Suburb- An outlying part of a city or town, a smaller community adjacent to or within commuting distance of a city : the residential area on the outskirts of a city or large town. So you are going to tell me that the block that house was on was a SUBURBAN BLOCK????????-lol You can't look t that block and tell it was a CITY BLOCK? Mr. Television 09-03-2008, 12:12 AM Reggie Vel Johnson played cop roles in other movies. "Too fat to be a cop?" Nah. I can still picture him a cop and playing the part very well. Looks like a suburb to me, With row type houses. Because it's only the richest people and the poorest people, who usually live in an inner city (albeit in different parts of the inner city), while the middle class, like the Winslows, often live out in the suburbs. And really, I think suburbs are often still considered as a part of the city, just not as a part of the inner city. Don't the people living in a Chicago suburb still say "I live in Chicago"? So I say the Winslows lived in Chicago, but in a suburb of the city. Jessica 09-03-2008, 09:53 AM I think that Reginald VelJohnson looks more like a cop than an actor. Furienna 09-03-2008, 09:59 AM Yeah, he's good at playing cops. Someone already mentioned "Die Hard". TVFactFan 09-03-2008, 10:16 AM I still say they lived in some kind of suburb, because they clearly didn't live in the inner city. So I say the Winslows lived in Chicago, but in a suburb of the city. You didn't know that a neighborhood can still be nice that's not considered the inner city?-lol I live in a nice neighborhood and it;s not the suburbs, it's plenty of nice neighborhoods that's not considered the suburbs. Going by your logic that means chicago was ONE BIG GHETTO-lol Furienna 09-03-2008, 10:47 AM That's not what I said at all. But a suburb of Chicago is still a part of Chicago, just not a part of the inner city. C_ME 12-22-2008, 12:54 AM Carl seemed like the type of cop who could win a fist fight or a gun battle against a crook but he probably wouldn't be able to chase down a criminal and would need to call backup. |
