View Full Version : Was Horshak the WRONG character to spin off? Brian Damage 08-30-2008, 01:54 PM Just curious what everybody's opinion is on this subject. Schmoopie 08-30-2008, 04:01 PM Did they DO a spinoff featuring Horshack? Jude The Obscure 08-30-2008, 04:08 PM Are you referring to the episode they focused on Horshak and his family as a spinoff pilot? Brian Damage 08-30-2008, 05:05 PM Are you referring to the episode they focused on Horshak and his family as a spinoff pilot? Yes sirrreee catlover79 08-30-2008, 05:08 PM Thank goodness it WASN'T made into a spinoff!!! Horshack was barely tolerable even in small doses! In my opinion, none of the Sweathogs (even Barbarino!) were strong enough characters to carry their own show. Brian Damage 08-30-2008, 05:14 PM Thank goodness it WASN'T made into a spinoff!!! Horshack was barely tolerable even in small doses! In my opinion, none of the Sweathogs (even Barbarino!) were strong enough characters to carry their own show. Really? Even Vinnie Barbarino? catlover79 08-30-2008, 05:21 PM  Really? Even Vinnie Barbarino? No, I think the Sweathogs needed each other...they were greater than the sum of its parts. Brian Damage 08-30-2008, 05:28 PM No, I think the Sweathogs needed each other...they were greater than the sum of its parts. You make an excellent point, however, there was an interesting episode where Vinnie became a nurse and left school. I think it would've been cool to see him interact inside a hospital. catlover79 08-30-2008, 05:30 PM You make an excellent point, however, there was an interesting episode where Vinnie became a nurse and left school. I think it would've been cool to see him interact inside a hospital. I must have missed that episode! Chocolate Moose 08-30-2008, 08:23 PM i remembr that but not horshach on his own. it was an ensemble show Brian Damage 08-30-2008, 08:30 PM I must have missed that episode! Yeah, I forget what was the name of the episode and what season it was. Adamantium 08-30-2008, 08:59 PM Yeah, I forget what was the name of the episode and what season it was. That was from the fourth season. Vinnie had that job for a few episodes that year. Brian Damage 08-30-2008, 10:36 PM That was from the fourth season. Vinnie had that job for a few episodes that year. Thanks for that. I could be wrong, but it looked like they were trying to possibly spin off Barbarino. Schmoopie 08-30-2008, 11:32 PM Well now that's interesting. I haven't watched "Kotter" in a long time, but I had no idea there were any plans for spin-offs! Andrea Brian Damage 08-30-2008, 11:39 PM Well now that's interesting. I haven't watched "Kotter" in a long time, but I had no idea there were any plans for spin-offs! Andrea Yeah, they were definitely trying to spin off the Horshack character, but I guess lost interest in the project. catlover79 08-30-2008, 11:42 PM Thanks for that. I could be wrong, but it looked like they were trying to possibly spin off Barbarino. I don't think that would've happened - John Travolta was already a major star with Saturday Night Fever and Grease under his belt. There's no way he would've stayed on TV as Barbarino, even if he was the star of his own show. Then again, maybe if he WAS offered a spinoff, he would've thought twice before doing the godawful movie Moment By Moment!!!! Brian Damage 08-30-2008, 11:55 PM I don't think that would've happened - John Travolta was already a major star with Saturday Night Fever and Grease under his belt. He was the absolute worst character to spinoff mainly because he was the wackiest. I saw that pilot episode for the first time in years not too long ago and it really sucked. His family wasn't interesting nor funny and worse of all, they had Arnold playing the straight man. Brian Damage 08-31-2008, 12:12 AM I don't know what they were thinking when they tried to spinoff Horshack. The rest of the Sweathogs only appear at the very beginning and end of the episode. It was so weird seeing Horshak acting like a normal person. Brian Damage 08-31-2008, 12:48 AM  It's probably the worst episode of the series. TVFactFan 08-31-2008, 09:36 PM First of all it would have been crazy to spin off a character from a show that was not doing well-lol I don't think that has ever happened. Usually when a parent show spins off a character it's a HIT Three's company Jeffersons Happy Days Brian Damage 08-31-2008, 10:01 PM First of all it would have been crazy to spin off a character from a show that was not doing well-lol I don't think that has ever happened. Brian Damage 08-31-2008, 10:04 PM Usually when a parent show spins off a character it's a HIT Three's company Jeffersons Happy Days Usually, but not always...on FOX, they had a show called Duets and they spun off a character on that show and called Open House. TVFactFan 08-31-2008, 10:13 PM Kotter wasn't a hit? Not during the time they were trying to spin horshack off Brian Damage 08-31-2008, 10:16 PM Not during the time they were trying to spin horshack off I guess I see your point. |
