Just curious what everybody's opinion is on this subject.

Did they DO a spinoff featuring Horshack?

Are you referring to the episode they focused on Horshak and his family as a spinoff pilot?

Yes sirrreee

Thank goodness it WASN'T made into a spinoff!!! Horshack was barely tolerable even in small doses! In my opinion, none of the Sweathogs (even Barbarino!) were strong enough characters to carry their own show.

No, I think the Sweathogs needed each other...they were greater than the sum of its parts.

You make an excellent point, however, there was an interesting episode where Vinnie became a nurse and left school. I think it would've been cool to see him interact inside a hospital.

That was from the fourth season. Vinnie had that job for a few episodes that year.

Thanks for that. I could be wrong, but it looked like they were trying to possibly spin off Barbarino.

Well now that's interesting. I haven't watched "Kotter" in a long time, but I had no idea there were any plans for spin-offs!

Yeah, they were definitely trying to spin off the Horshack character, but I guess lost interest in the project.

I don't think that would've happened - John Travolta was already a major star with Saturday Night Fever and Grease under his belt. There's no way he would've stayed on TV as Barbarino, even if he was the star of his own show. Then again, maybe if he WAS offered a spinoff, he would've thought twice before doing the godawful movie Moment By Moment!!!!

I don't know what they were thinking when they tried to spinoff Horshack. He was the absolute worst character to spinoff mainly because he was the wackiest. I saw that pilot episode for the first time in years not too long ago and it really sucked. His family wasn't interesting nor funny and worse of all, they had Arnold playing the straight man.

 It's probably the worst episode of the series. The rest of the Sweathogs only appear at the very beginning and end of the episode. It was so weird seeing Horshak acting like a normal person.

It was listed on imdb - he played a character named Manny in the episode "Ernie Live on Tape".

First of all it would have been crazy to spin off a character from a show that was not doing well-lol I don't think that has ever happened. Usually when a parent show spins off a character it's a HIT

Three's company
Jeffersons
Happy Days

Usually, but not always...on FOX, they had a show called Duets and they spun off a character on that show and called Open House.
