This was the one with Steve and Carl on a pirate ship right?

No, this was the ep when Carl and Steve travel back to the day Carl bought his house in 1976 - he put a letter to himself in a basket to tell him what stocks to invest him, and after they went back to present day, he was rich. Kind of confusing - I didn't think this episode was all that bad.

The pirate episode you're talking about was all-out insane and unwatchable - that was by far one of my least favorite episodes. This episode, while still dealing with one of Steve's inventions, still wasn't that kooky.

I must have missed that part because I was confused when he was rich-lol

Yeah, you had to watch closely for that part - in real time, he wrote a list of good stocks to invest in when they went back to 1976 (Microsoft, Disney, etc.). When they were in 1976, he put that list in the muffin basket, and when they went back to real time, he was rich. Very clever ;)

Agreed, Monika. I remember not wanting to watch "Family Matters" when CBS rescued it after ABC rightfully dumped it (thankfully, it turned out to be the last season), and when I finally decided to see what that last season was like when ABC Family showed the reruns around August 2006, I thought I wasn't missing much of anything, especially after finding out Jo Marie Payton got replaced with a new Harriette (did the writers forget that she was supposed to be the star of the show because she was reprising a role she originated on "Perfect Strangers?").

I was still in elementary school when Family Matters first came on and was a senior in high school when it ended. I lost interest in the show during the my high school years. It wasn't about the family anymore - that's what I liked most about it. :(

i really didnt like this show after season 4. It really started going downhill. By season 7 it was too much about Steve.

IMO, the show got funnier after season 4, but the quality went down, obviously. Things were just too out there, and the whole premise of the show was pretty much abandoned.

The way FM was reminds me a bit of Happy Days. Fonzie became the huge star and characters like Richie weren't even there for season 10 (was it before too?) and it didn't go as much downhill but it wasn't quite the same when they had Lynda Goodfriend and Ted McGinley and those guys.

I didn't like how toward the end it seemed like every other episode was about Steve's inventions...

Even the series finale focused on Steve going up in space to fix the space station or something like that. You could tell they really went out of their way to include the entire cast in that finale-LOL

I guess that's why a lot of people consider the final season's Christmas episode to be the finale, since it includes the entire cast for the last time.

Don't forget that both shows were produced by the same company (Miller-Boyett), aired on the same network (ABC), and had a sibling disappear with no explanation (Chuck on HD and Judy on FM).

I agree, I still can't believe how much this show changed in the later seasons. It is like a completely different show.

I still don't think the later seasons deserve all the hate they're getting. Most of the episodes were still funny or at least interesting, and there even were family-centred sub-plots in many otherwise "unrealistic" episodes. And I so don't think JoMarie should have left the show. Those people in charge sure should have listened to her though.

I don't remember that pirate episode, that everybody hates. But I remember when they went back to the 70s, and Carl left a note to himself, so he would become rich. And even though it was many years ago, that I watched that episode, I remember it as being good.

I haven't seen all the later seasons yet, but I'm sure they ain't THAT bad.

I agree. And the strange thing is, is that the Winslows were acting like this was all normal like it is everyday life. I think Eddie said "oh Steve and dad just went back in time" and Harriette is like "well I hope he is home before our guest get here"

In every TV-show there's episodes that really is the worse. That doesn't make the whole show bad.

I agree - I think saying that "I won't watch the show after season 6" or something like that is absurd. If you're a fan of the show, then you'll watch it no matter what. The later seasons weren't bad at all. Actually, I found them to be a lot funnier. They weren't as good in quality, but they were equally as funny and just as good. I don't see what all the fuss is about.

But, their are the exceptions, like the Pirate episode from last night. If you ask me, that episode is just downright horrible.

One thing I never understood is that if Steve could create all of these gadgets that would make him famous and a billionaire.. Why didn't he pursue that?? Instead he decides to move in with the Winslows?

That's exactly how I feel - if you enjoy watching a show, why stop after a certain season?

Steve doesn't care about being rich and famous. And well, his parents had put their house up for rentt, so he needed somewhere to live. Why not with the Winslows? He had been there all the time for years anyway.
