We cleared out some of our old VHS tapes and I came across 2 tapes that were labeled "I Love Lucy Marathon".

I don't know what channel it ran on because somebody must have been watching it as it was taping and stopped the recording during commercial breaks.

However, before each show began they had a celebrity come on for about a minute to talk to the camera. Since it recorded a little bit after they first came on I missed why they were there and what this occasion was. Some of the stars there were Bea Arthur, a very old Gale Gordon, and George Burns.

Does anyone know what occasion this marathon ran for? That's all the info I have about it.

This sounds like the syndicated We Love Lucy package put out in the late '80s and aired as specials on local broadcast stations.

I have the same thing on an old VHS! This was a real treat back then! It was run in the early ? 1980's on, I believe, what eventually became the Fox Network. It was a six hour marathon I think. At my parent's house it was called WNEW channel 5 Manhattan. I know for SURE it was prior to 1988 because my parents taped this for me to watch "in the future" as I didn't have a VCR yet. I am not sure of the occasion of the marathon though. It was long before Lucy's death so it wasn't that. Maybe her 70th birthday?? Yeah I think I remember people saying "Happy Birthday Lucy!" So now I am pretty convinced we have the same thing.

Yup, it was the We Love Lucy specials that were syndicated. Lucie Arnaz hosted one episode, I don't remember who hosted the others but I remember Danny Thomas appearing on one. I have two of the three on a tape somewhere. May have to dig these out and give a watch just for old times sake when the hour long shows were hard to find!

Betty White was a host on one of these specials.

I didn't get these, but later got some of the We Love Lucy hours that ran on TBS.

At first, I thought you might be referring to the "I Love Lucy"
50th Anniversary Special, which was made in 2001. There
were a lot of celebrities on that, too!
