After stumbling upon many different perspectives on the relationship between the two girls, I thought I'd present the question to the board. What exactly is the relationship between Ginger and MaryAnn? Are they just hutmates, friends, best friends, or even enemies? I'm not sure where exactly I'd place them, but in each fanfiction story I read, or write for that matter, everyone places them differently. I was wondering how you'd describe their friendship or lack of one if you take that approach.

It's extremely difficult to describe their relationship because it never been stable in the show either. On some episodes, they seem to be very good friends where Mary Ann admires Ginger and they are getting along great but,on other eps,Mary Ann is jalouse of the movie star and complains that she never helps ect. So,I would say that they were strangers who had to share the same hut, learn to get along with each other, deal with their different perspectives, life's experiences and finally became good friends in the process.

I think it's pretty much the same as Betty and Veronica: best friends at diff ends of the social ladder ; who are also friendly rivals!

They seem to be hutmates that tried to get along with each other. They never really seemed like best friends to me.

Interesting question and great topic! I never really thought about it. I just always figured them to be friends. As for getting on each other's nerves.... if I was stuck on a deserted island with someone, I'd go a little crazy, too!

Yah I think they were friends. I think they usually got a long but fought sometimes.
