View Full Version : Nelsonmania!!!!
OH Nuts! 08-24-2008, 11:51 PM A tiny bit off topic but not too much. I have such a craving to see any of the Nelson clan in something...and two great things came my way.
J & R Music World, a great electronics and DVD store in my city, had a sales on their DVDs and so I bought Square Pegs, which has Tracy Nelson in it (Rick's daughter- --her character is one of the most popular girls in the high school - and is Valley Girl.
In a discount store near where I work I just came across High School U.S.A. made in the early 80s and David Neslon is in it - playing a high school janitor.
Anyone else have either of these?
honeybea 08-25-2008, 11:19 AM David Nelson was in Peyton Place, don't know if it was a one time or recurring thing. I sure would like to have this series, but it's never been released to my knowledge and the few places I've found it were very expensive. he was also in Circus of the Stars years ago.
Jude The Obscure 08-25-2008, 12:24 PM I have High School USA, Rich and I'm glad you finally got a copy.
I've seen Square Pegs on CBS and in reruns on USA. If I were to find the set cheap, I may get it, but it isn't a priority.
snorlaxnut 08-26-2008, 01:20 AM I have a copy of the movie The Over-The-Hill Gang, starring Ricky and his wife, Kris.
I also have a documentary on laserdisc called Rock and Roll: The Early Days, which shows one scene from the O&H episode "Music Appreciation". So I can say I watched at least a few seconds of O&H on three video formats (VHS, DVD, and Laserdisc)!

I totally understand, I was waiting for a sale on it and when the sale came then I bought it.
I must say Tracy Nelson was very good in it as the above the crowd valley girl. The Sq Pegs DVD set has a nice bonus feature with the cast giving interviews so I got to see Tracy as an adult woman reminiscing about the show. Also since I'm a Sex And The City fan (the show has great photos of my city The Big Apple) it was kind of cool seeing Sarah Jessica Parker as a youngster as well as on the bonus section as an adult reflecting on the series.
Jude The Obscure 08-27-2008, 09:10 PM I fondly remember Sarah from SP, "Footloose" and the short-lived NBC drama "A Year in the Life". I'm not a SaTC fan.

What I REALLY like about SaTC is the great photography of my city throughout. Some of the story lines can be a little weak and Carrie Bradshaw, the queen of vanilla, as a sex columnist, is not very believable. Still I like Sara Jessica and there have been some cool guest stars on some eps.
But I digress. We're on Sycamore Lane right now, and truth be told, if someone pointed a gun to my head and said choose between O & H and SaTC, my SaTC sets would be the ones to go (although I hope it never comes to that!)
Jude The Obscure 08-28-2008, 09:42 AM Well, we can play six degrees or less with Kevin Bacon--Kevin was in Footloose with Sarah, who was in Square Pegs with Tracy, who is the granddaughter of Ozzie and Harriet

True enough!
ILUVO&H 09-11-2008, 06:10 PM I bought The Love Boat Season 1 Volume 2 because Rick was in an episode. As a bonus treat Don DeFore was featured in another episode.
I will have to get Love boat Season 1 Volume 1 still because Dave is in an episode on that.
I know Harriet was also on a Love Boat episode. She had a romance Ray "Scarecrow" Bolger. but I can't remember what season that was from.
I do have a copy on VHS of Harriet in an episode of Happy Days. Harriet and Jane Wyatt (FKB) comforted Marion in a beauty salon. Marion was distressed because her kids had all grown up and moved away.

OMG! I had forgotten about that episode! It seems I remember seeing it at some point in time.
Harriet was also on an episode of "Father Dowling Mysteries" with Tracy.
Tracy was also in an episode of "Touched by An Angel" during Season 2.
And let's not forget the episode she was in on "Seinfeld".
Matthew and Gunnar Nelson are featured on VH1's "I Love The ___" and "The 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's." Those air all the time.
The Nelsons are EVERYWHERE!

Guess The Love Boat is next on my sitcom list! ;)
Jude The Obscure 09-12-2008, 10:02 AM Dem Nelsons sure did get around........and they don't mess around, boy! ;)
Janine the Dream 09-12-2008, 10:23 AM Ozzie appeared in and directed an episode of ADAM -12.
Goldilocks 09-12-2008, 11:10 AM Ozzie appeared in and directed an episode of ADAM -12.
And wasn't Kent McCord of ADAM-12 on O&H?
Or one of Ricky's friends?
There's a connection there somewhere. :quest:
Jude The Obscure 09-12-2008, 11:11 AM Yes, he was on O&H as one of the fraternity brothers. Billed as Kent McWhirter.
ILUVO&H 09-12-2008, 07:15 PM When I see dvds of Love American Style I look to see if they contain any of the episodes Ozzie and Harriet appeared in.
And long time when TVLAND would air thing under The Wonder of TV LAnd. I think it was that or something like that. They showed little known tv shows. Mostly pilots of shows with famous people, or shows that lasted only a few episodes.
Well, at one time they showed, a few times a show called. Fathers. I think that was the name. Anyway, Rick was cast member in this pilot. It was from the ealry 80's and also starred Merlin Oleson.
In the episode I saw, These 3 or 4 dads all took their sons on a camping trip together. Merlin played the dad everyone wished they had, and all the other dads were rather flawed. Ricks role was an absentee father. He was a divorced dad who was always going off on business and not able to spend much time with his son. He wasn't in the episode much because he was had to cut short his vacation for business. But he came back at the end of the episode because he decided it was more important to spend this time with his son.
I don't know why I didn't tape it at least once in the few times I saw it on TVLAND. I'm usually a taping fanatic. It certainly was a surprise to see Rick on there.
