Jo Polniaczek-Bonner paced the small pace between her desk and the door
to the Crisis Center where she worked. Well, not so much walked as
waddled. She was one day away from her due date and her stomach was
bigger than it had ever been. Because of her stomach she could no longer
drive to and from work, so her husband always came to pick her up. Madge
Johnson, her fellow social worker and friend, walked past Jo and smiled.
"You better stop pacing or that baby'll come before you're ready."
Jo stopped and rubbed her lower back. "Lemme tell you something," she
said. "I've been ready ever since I started having morning sickness,
back pains-- Wait, scratch that, body pains! I'm beginning to think that
I'll just be pregnant forever!"
Madge smiled. "Well, try to hang in there."
Jo's smiled and sat down in Madge's chair. "Oh, yeah! They give you the
comfortable! I'm pregnant and they give me a... Oooh! Madge, don't get
mad at me, but... Um... I think my water just broke in your comfy
chair."
