I really liked their characters? The reason Bob left the show was because Saverio Guerra decided not to renew his contract for the sixth season. I wish he would have stayed on because he was one of my favorite characters. Not to mention his replacement(the big guy from Lost) sucked. Here's some info from wikipedia as to why Reggie left the show. Between the fourth and fifth seasons,Terry Farrell (Reggie) was fired. The reason for Farrell's dismissal remains unclear. She has told interviewers that it came as a complete shock to her and that she is unsure of exactly why it happened, although she reportedly led a strike among the show's cast. After Terry's dismissal, actress Nancy Travis was hired to play Chris Connor, the new neighbor in Becker's apartment building who moves to the Bronx after traveling the world. Nancy, originally supposed to be in the show for only 4 episodes, became a series regular after the firing of Terry Farrell. Chris takes over the diner and begins a love-hate relationship with Becker. Chocolate Moose 08-29-2008, 09:58 AM too bad, it was a good job for saverrio. did he get much work after that? i hven't seen him in anything. a big star, he's not retrochick9 09-15-2008, 01:26 AM Thanks for the info! browneyes106 03-16-2009, 12:45 AM I think Terry Farrell being fired from the show was a huge blow. I thought she and Ted Danson had more charisma and chemistry. I always hoped that Becker and Reggie would get married. littletydramon 03-10-2015, 12:54 AM I'm glad I found this info. I just finished season 4 of Becker and the way they ended it, I was sure that maybe she would be in at least the first episode of season 5. It's kinda ****ty writing how they so abruptly got rid of her character. :( I wasn't even aware that Bob completely left after season 5 that's kind of a bummer. Chocolate Moose 03-10-2015, 08:57 AM it's a lot about money. veggie-tari-jenn 04-14-2015, 12:11 AM I think Terry Farrell being fired from the show was a huge blow. I thought she and Ted Danson had more charisma and chemistry. I always hoped that Becker and Reggie would get married. me too...they were adorable in their own way together....I remember reading it was a money issue...too bad...show wasn't the same when she left or when my fave character Bob left.... Edward216 04-27-2015, 03:03 AM Yeah, I thought Terry Farrell and Ted Danson had good chemistry together too. I seem to remember reading an interview Farrell had done where she talked about her surprise at being fired, not only that, I seem to remember in the interview her saying that she was hurt (and maybe a little resentful) that Ted Danson didn't go to bat with the producers for her, you know try to talk them out of firing her. But none of us knows what really happened and probably never will. I never liked the character of Chris, I actually don't like Nancy Travis as an actress really. Ed. HuntingtonM15 05-16-2015, 03:23 PM For me, the show ended with the departure of Terry Farrell. The producers were idiots for letting her go. They destroyed amazing chemistry and never came close to rebuilding it. I met Terry Farrell yesterday, and she is such a sweet person. She was very grateful toward my comments regarding Becker and how much I loved her on the show. She did share with me that she was fired because she wanted raises for everyone, and they weren't having it. She said they knew she was not going to give up. She let me know how devastated she was, and how she cried for a long time over it and wasn't able to watch anymore episodes of the show. She still says that she wouldn't change a thing, because she was standing up for what she thought was right. JSP 03-06-2016, 09:36 PM For me, the show ended with the departure of Terry Farrell. Yeseyehaveone 10-06-2017, 04:28 AM We found Becker long after it had left prime time, in syndication, late night, here in the Piedmont, NC. Initially, liked the show, then grew to love it, and I, like many commenters, could NOT believe it, when Terry Farrell was dismissed from the show. While there is no doubt that Nancy Travis is talented and there was some chemistry between Becker and Chris, the show was just never the same after the loss of Reggie (Terry Farrell's character) Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, the show was exemplary with the original cast and given the tension between Becker and Reggie, it was well worth watching, even if romance hadn't exactly bloomed yet. Terry, you were done wrong, honey and a lot of people stopped watching the show right then, as your absence was truly felt. Yeseyehaveone 10-06-2017, 04:37 AM You know, "Bob" really added something to Becker. I, too, always looked forward to Bob breezing in and interrupting others in the diner, to share some mundane detail of his dysfunctional existence, and yet many times, he could reveal himself to be uncharacteristically tender and considerate of those around him. Oh, really the entire cast, just shined, didn't they, with the offbeat Linda always getting one over on Margaret; but did she really, because Margaret was usually ten steps ahead of those around her and was the glue that held that office together; and the lovable Jake who also seemed to have inner visions and brought much depth to the scenario; not to mention Becker himself, who you just could hardly wait to see storm into the diner with his latest tyrade on why today was so lousy, lol. I'm going to purchase this series on DVD, because it is rare to find a sitcom where you feel you really know the characters and they seem like friends. Good work, Becker! I caught the cliffhanger when Reggie simply "went away" and felt a lot of potential was lost, but things kept hitting heavy with Chris so the loss was softened... but Bob's exit, jeeze, the big guy Hector may try, but has no chemistry with the rest of the ensemble. Bob was truly missed. Will Dockery 03-26-2021, 01:16 AM For me, the show ended with the departure of Terry Farrell. The producers were idiots for letting her go. What a lousy deal for her, I'm watching the early episodes lately (for the first time) and Reggie shines. Agreed, for a while I sure expected Reggie to come back... then as episode after episode went by and soon she wasn't even mentioned any more, I knew something was amiss... so I looked it up on Wikipedia. wayfarer 09-22-2021, 01:29 AM There was a real loss of chemistry and magic when Reggie left , followed by Bob. I just recently finished watching seasons 5 & 6 again. I was never a fan of the character Chris. Those first few episodes with her were painful. A know it all busy body...who seemed to have an endless wealth of life experience... Reggie's presence alone was enough. Not over the top or in your face , just enough...which added to the chemistry of all the characters and made it work. Where-as the character Chris was a little more forced... Bob was always such a great character. A street wise New Yorker...blowing in the door jacked up on coffee! Hector had his moments in the last series but nothing to the depth Bob brought to the show. |
