I just renewed my driver's license this morning. It's still a few weeks before it actually expired, but I just wanted to get it done and over with. See, my birthday this year falls on a Saturday, and the last thing I want to do is get up early on a Saturday, and go to the DMV when all the teenagers are there. I find the best time to go to the DMV is very early in the morning (a WEEKDAY morning). Today there was only one person ahead of me in line. The other few customers were there for vehicle registration. I was in and out of there in 10-15 minutes.
I've never had a bad experience at the DMV, but a couple of years ago Glenn Beck related a hilarious story about the trouble he went through to renew his driver's license thanks to a few completely incompetent state employees. Has anyone here had any horror stories that took place in the DMV?

Yeah, basically all my experiences there lol...No offense to chinese people but it seems like they always have orientals working there, that's not my problem at all, I was just saying. And everybody working there is always so miserable, especially in Jersey.

Monika, you are soooo lucky. Regardless the day of the week and also regardless the time; it is always a mob at the local DMV here in a major city in California...

i've lost my license several times because i'm very disorganized and when i went to get a 5th duplicate i was interrogated by this investigator at the dmv. i had to explain what happened to each single one which i could barely remember how i lost them. then he had the nerve to ask me "what do you do leave them at the bar?" i understand they had a right to inquire because of the amount of duplicates i had especially in this post 9/11 society but there was no need to be insulting, i've never even been to a bar in my life. and he was trying to imply that i do illegal things with the extra licenses like selling them to immigrants. he finally gave me another one but made it clear it would be my last. incidentally my husband works at the dmv now as a guard so everynight he has an interesting story to tell.

When I turnned 30 in 2006 I had to renew my license, and I very nearly failed the eye portion of the driver's test. My eyesite used to be really good, but clealry it no longer is. Over the the last couple of months I have been having even more difficulty seeing certain things. It looks like I'll probably have to get glasses.

Kimberlee, you'll have to share some of your husband's stories...I'm sure he has some doozies. I'm sorry you went through a difficult experience.

One of the perks of the suburbs!
Waiting at the DMV sucks. The last time I had to renew my drivers licence in 2005, i was stupid enough to almost forget about it until my Mother reminded me. I live in New York City, but I have a NJ license so I never recieved any paperwork at my NY address.
My old license was going to expire on December 31st. New years Eve.
I was really busy that week, so i found the closest DMV which was in Jersey City. Luckily i worked in that area, so i new where it was. That morning i dragged myself out of bed at the crack of dawn (which was even worse becasue I was out most of the night with my friends), took a train into Jersey city then a bus to the DMV and got there as it was just opening.
I was the only one there and I was done in 15 minutes.
Of course, my license photo is terrible since I was so hung over, but i was back in bed by 10 AM, so it was a good day.
