I mailed a letter to Angela Watson (AKA my biggest crush, dream girl, and the hottest girl I ever saw on Friday nights) in hopes that I could maybe get an autographed picture or a nice response from her.

With that in mind,

Two questions:

1. Have any of YOU ever sent letters to a famous TV actor?

2. Ever got a response from them or anything from them (memorabilia, picture, etc.)

Oh God, yes! I don't mean to sound as though I am bragging here, but I used to be a huge OLTL fan. I sent several letters (actually some actors I wrote weekly!) and managed to get a few autographed pictures in the mail.
Most recently, I wrote to the main cast of NYPD Blue. I was really missing that show from the moment the last episode aired, so the next day I sat down and wrote five letters to cast members. I got an autographed picture from Gordon Clapp, who played Greg Meadovoy and then about a month later, I got an autographed picture from Mark-Paul Glossear who played Sipowitz's partner in the last few seasons.

I didn't really plan on getting these pictures. I just wanted the actor/actress to know that I enjoyed their work. However if you do want a picture or whatever, my advice is just to keep trying. You never know what will happen! Oh... and keep the letters as short as possible, because I think they can go through those faster.

no, I never have, but this thread reminds me of something that happened back during the 2nd season of "THE ODD COUPLE". ABC aired an episode one week without a laugh track, and asked viewers to write in and say if they liked it better with or without one. I remember, I wrote in and voted for it without, and I guess I was outvoted because when the episode was reran (reruned?:confused: ) that summer, it had one.

Oh yes definately. I wrote a fan letter to Penny Marshall when Laverne & Shirley was still on the air and she sent me an autograph pic which read, Joey Keep drinkin Milk and Pepsi. And I wrote one to Vicki Lawrence and got an autographed pic from her, it was cool.

Nice to know that some of you guys were lucky enough to get some autographed pictures!

I never even bothered sending in letters because I assumed they would never reply or just have somebody else write a lame response that wouldn't be from the actor/tress themselves.

Not lately. But in the past I did. The first stars that I wrote to were Sally
Field (Gidget) and Don Adams (Get Smart). I received an autographed photo of each of them. I have also received autographed pix
of Hope Lange and Edward Mulhare (The Ghost and Mrs. Muir), Dan
Rowan & Dick Martin, Ruth Buzzi, Gary Owens and Lily Tomlin (Laugh-In), Charlie's Angels
(Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson and Farrah Fawcett) and an 8 x 10 photo of the cast of Tales of the Gold Monkey,
autographed by the entire cast (including even Jack's paw print!). And I received
a letter from David Dortort, producer of The High Chaparral, and both an
autographed 8 x 10 photo of Valerie Bertinelli and a (form) letter from
her. But I haven't written to anyone on television in the last twenty years.
From what I understand, you now have a better chance of receiving a reply
if you send a large, self-addressed envelope. Good luck!

I was lucky. I wrote to Robert Foxworth when he played Chase Gioberti on "Falcon Crest" and I received an autographed photograph from him and a postcard in 1984 saying "Vote For Mondale". I also e-mailed Michael Norell, who played Capt. Stanley on "Emergency" and he replied back to me for 2 years (2000-2002). Receiving notes from Mike Norell is something that I will never forget. I sent a message to Martha Madison on her website and told her how much I loved her as Belle on Days and she sent me an autographed picture of her and she even answered me back and told me how much she appreciated the message and the kind words. She was really nice.

Barbara Eden did the same thing. I sent her a letter telling her how much I liked her as an actress and a person and so on and a few weeks later I received a letter and an autographed picture of her. It was very nice of her to send me a photo.

Kelli McCarty responded to an email I sent her a few years ago but I never got anything back from her due to circumstances beyond our control. She was very nice. It was very nice of her to send an email back. On Christmas Eve! :eek:

He used to have a white El Camino (which I read about in Tiger Beat Magazine), and this girl said that she had seen his car in the driveway. So I got the address and wrote him a whole bunch of times. I felt kind of guilty sending them to his "house", but I did end up getting two postcards with his picture on the front. It had a printed message on the back with a signature, but of course, I had to "analyze" the handwriting of my address and was just convinced that he had written it! :loveya:

I don't have Jerry Seinfeld's autograph, but I DO have an autographed picture of Julia Louis-Dreyfus. I wrote to her when the show was still on the air originally...I was in 8th or 9th grade. I don't have a scanner at home, but I do have one at work. I'll do my best to get it up here.

Yes, I wrote to David Hyde Pierce a few years ago while he was still doing Frasier and I got a personally autographed b&w photo of him. Also I wrote to the late (:( ) Kasey Rogers (the second Louise Tate on Bewitched) a few years ago and got a nice personally autographed b&w photo of her as well.

I plan on writing to Robert Guillaume sometime in the near future, as I have heard he does reply. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :D

Back when Star Trek: The Next Generation was first on the air, my roommate noticed that the Construction Coordinator's name was Al Smutko. He liked the name (think he probably thought it was funny at first), and so he started the "Al Smutko Fan Club", which honestly, consisted of the four of us living in the house at the time saying "Yay, Al!" whenever his name came on the screen.

We began to notice that each year, as we did this, Al's name was one screen higher on the credits each season. So our goal became to make it "Al Smutko presents: Star Trek The Next Generation". About season 3, my roommate decided to write a letter to Al, and tell him what we'd done. My other roommate had "Al Smutko Fan Club" buttons made up, and we sent a few along.

Well, we got a reply: and a request for more buttons! It seems that Al thought the idea was fun, showed the letter and buttons around, and now the CAST wanted their own buttons!

This started a correspondence between my roommate Mike and Al Smutko which continues to this day. They exchanged Christmas gifts one year, and Al sent Mike one of the brass plaques that adorn the 'bridge' of the different Federation ships! It was beautiful. The funny part about the plaques is they include the stardate the ship was launched and all the 'admirals' that attended the launch, including many members of the set construction team.

Al even got a couple of us on to the closed set for Next Generation during hiatus between sixth and seventh season, something he wasn't really supposed to do!

I myself have spoken to Al on the phone a couple of times, when I had some questions about the industry while I was looking for work. A truly kind and gracious man, especially to his 'fan club'.

I wrote to Terence Knox in 1987, shortly after "Tour of Duty" began airing on CBS-TV, and I received an autographed picture of Terry as Sgt. Zeke Anderson. I was a huge fan of "Tour of Duty" and I remember receiving notices in the mail to remind me to watch the new season of "Tour of Duty" for the final two seasons (1988-1990) it aired on CBS-TV.

I wrote to the casts of "The New Adam-12" and "The New Dragnet" in 1989 and received photographs (not autographed) for both series.

I wrote a letter to Edd Byrnes ("77 Sunset Strip") after I read his book, Kookie No More. I was flabbergasted when he wrote a letter back to me!

There are still four actors whom I would like to write fan letters to -- Tony Dow ("Leave it to Beaver"), Michael Cole ("The Mod Squad"), and Martin Milner and Kent McCord ("Adam-12"). They are all retired or semi-retired from acting now, but I still admire their work.

I sent a postcard to Robert Brown telling him how much I enjoyed him on "Here Come The Brides" and he sent me an autographed picture. I didn't ask for one & was very surprised when it came.

When I was about 11 years old, I was a huge "Happy Days" fan and I sent a long letter to Henry Winkler and he sent me back to autographed pictures with personalized notes on each one. He also sent me a 1975 Paramount cast card sent out at the time and wrote a personalized post it note explaining it - I was AMAZED and thrilled!

I've also gotten less personalized (but some still really good ones) from Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Marlo Thomas, Lucie Arnaz, and Bob Newhart

I've been collecting autographs for years now, so I've gotten many responses. I'm sure I have close to 1,000 autographs now. The number of people who never responded is quite large as well.

I looked on this site and found the two addresses. However, I'm thinking that this might have old information. The address for his agency is in California and the other address seems to be a residence in NYC. I did a search online and it looks to be an apartment building. No way do I want to send a letter to his home-although that would definitely get some attention! I'll keep looking though. I know he's scheduled to be in Vegas next month, so I'm wondering if I could send a letter to Caesar's Palace Colosseum and see if they could get it to him. It might work...

Right before January 3, 2006, I sent an e-mail to Danica McKellar, famous for her role as Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years, wishing her a happy birthday and congratulations to her alma mater UCLA winning the Sun Bowl--I think that's the one; it takes place in El Paso. I think it was February 22--I know it was after February 19, the day I took a trip out to Mellott, Indiana (northwest of Crawfordsville; it's population is like 200)--that I received an e-mail saying "Thanks, James! -Danica" The fact she called me by my name made my year!

Then on June 15 right after midnight I sent an e-mail to Eddie Mekka, famous for his role as Carmine "The Big Ragu" Ragusa on Laverne and Shirley, wishing him a happy belated birthday, and within a week I got an e-mail response saying "Don't let it happen again. -The Mekster" (I assume "it" refers to being late since his birthday is June 14.)

Last October I received another e-mail from Ms. McKellar after I heard about a sinkhole opening up in her birthplace of La Jolla, California and I e-mailed expressing my concern. She e-mailed back with "All are fine, thanks!" (I printed it and still have it in my desk.)

I have another one, this is new and recent.

I've been putting together a good copy of Key West, the 1993 series starring Fisher Stevens and Jennifer Tilly. I noticed that the music was by 'Pray For Rain', so I did a little web research. The composer's real name is Dan Wool, and I found his official website, and dropped him an email to compliment him on the music for Key West, and some other movies and shows he had worked on.

He emailed me back, and we began a brief correspondence, with the final result being that he emailed me mp3s of all of the music he still had from various episodes of Key West, and an mp3 of a complete soundtrack that he had done for an independent film! What a SUPER nice guy!

In the third grade, I wrote a fan letter to Franklin W. Dixon (author of The Hardy Boys books!:) :cool: ) and got a letter back from Simon & Schuster. From what I recall, it was kind of a form letter thing, so nothing to get too excited about. Still, I kinda wish I'd kept it.
I also wrote a fan letter to Mark Lowry once and he sent me an autographed picture- that was pretty cool!:) :cool:
And if we're counting emails, I emailed Beth Cruise, author of the Saved By The Bell books, and got a nice reply email from her.

So yeah- I guess none of those are really actors or actresses- but I figured it was close enough.

I sent Susan Lucci an email. I read online that all her autographs were either autopen or pre-prints (I forget which) and an image search pretty much confirmed this.
To my surprise I got a hand signed photo back that was personalized and the signature matched those online but it was definitely hand signed.
I also sent some pages from a magazine photo spread to Amanda Seyfried and she signed every single one of them personalized and sent them back to me.
Both these ladies are really good to their fans. I have read that Amanda is well known to answer her mail. I will go out of my way to see anything she is in because she is just so nice to respond to fans.

I received an autographed picture of Betty White with one of her dogs. I was surprised how fast it came after requesting.

I never got back a letter from a TV and/or Movie Star, however in February of 1988 I mailed letter to somebody who was in the National News in December of 1987. To my suprise this person mailed a letter back to me and we became pen pals for about 18 months. We went our own ways, the last I heard of him was an article that stated he was married, has four kids and lives "Somewhere in Texas.

I wrote to a lot of actors on "Days of our Lives". I got letters and pictures back from Matt Cedeno (Brandon Walker), Jay Kenneth Johnson (Philip Kiriakis), Kirsten Storms (Belle Black), Kyle Lowder (Brady Black), Drake Hogestyn (John Black), Jason Cook (Shawn Brady), Eric Winter (Rex Brady), Billy Warlock (Frankie Brady), Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe Lane), Brody Hutzler (Patrick Lockhart), Joseph Mascolo (Stefano Dimera) & Eric Martsolf (Brady Black).

Also have autographed pictures of Leslie Nielsen and country singer Bryan White.

I also met Lisa Whelchel (Blair Warner) from "The Facts of Life" at a Women of Faith conference. I bought her book and she autographed it and I got a picture of her and me together.

I also have an autographed picture of WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels. Although I did pay for that one!:)

Speaking of emails, I have received 26 email messages from Susan Silo,
since I first wrote to her, on August 12, 2010. I've saved 'em all ... and also have a personally autographed 8 x 10 color photo (similar to my avatar). :)

I wonder if the failure to respond to emails,etc from these people means they are only in this for $$$$$$$ and dont care about talking to anyone about thier stuff??

no, it's because most celebrities don't have time to respond to all their mail and e-mail from fans, etc.

I assume it is a personal choice. Some do charge for autographs, others do not. Some answer no fanmail at all, some have an agent send a pre-print or form letter. It all depends.
I think it helps a star's career to answer. I know I have watched some of Amanda Seyfried's films simply becasue I like her and she is always generous with her fans. I believe she answers every request personally. That inspires a loyalty that publicity can not buy.

Oh yeah....

like andrea mentioned previously.....I luv the soap one life to live and have written many of the stars of that show and 99% wrote back and sent an auto graphed picture.....kathy brier who played marcie walsh on the show sent me a birthday card that same year because I had my bday cake made with al and marcie on the cake.....sent her a pic and she luved it....

Michael Easton is the sweetest man on the planet.....I wrote him when he was on days, pc, oltl and he always resonded and sent auto pics, stationary, pens, buttons etc.....and when he was moving along to general hospital I got a note outta the blue....and auto pic thanking me for my continued support and he hoped I would continue watching him on gh....

When I was in high school, I ordered one of those big lists full of celebrity addresses. I wrote a few letters and got a fairly surprising number of responses. Wanted to write more than I did, but I always felt a bit too weirdly self-conscious about it. As if I was worried I would come across as just wanting an autograph or something, even though I never even requested one. I've gotten autogarph pictures in the mail from TV celeberities but even though they were signed by the artist themselves, the secretary sent them to me and not the artist. Some of them are just to busy to respond to every person who writes so that's why their secretary does it or the receptionist at the stuido. I did get an autograph back once from Ron Howard but I don't still have it. my mother always told me not to send any celeberity anything because the secretary will get it and keep it or just trhow it in the trash.

I used to write fan letters to actors all the time. I wrote to cast members of The Love Boat, One Life to Live, Benson, Trapper John MD, and Hotel (among others) and got replies quite a bit. Pictures, at least...:)

Alot of them are just too busy and get too many letters to respond and when people don't get a respond the fan thinks they are rude. If you do get something you never know if the secretary or fan club signed it. My mother told me never to send them anything because the secratary or fan club will get it and keep it or throw it out. I've known people who meet a celebarity in person and give them something but you don't know if they keep it or throw it out. I don't have the money for that. I figure just being a fan is enough. If you watch their TV show or go to their movie, or buy their CD or go to their concert, that's enough. They are rich enough anyway. If you ask any of them what they want for Christmas or their birthday they tell you to give the money to charity. If you like to collecet autographs and pictures and get them in person, that's great, then you know it's for real. But some are in such a hurry that they don't sign much or you can't read it anyway. If it's Robert Redford and he's in a hurry he might just sign Rob and later on you realy can't remember who that was.

Alot of them are just too busy and get too many letters to respond and when people don't get a respond the fan thinks they are rude.Ya ya might be right buddy!

The key is to research and see if they use a mail processing agency like "Spanky Taylor" if they do save your money. A few older celebs do use secretarials but most younger one's that do not really do fan mail will hire a company to handle it.

One way to get successes are to check who is performing on Broadway and send it to the theatre. If they answer it is almost always authentic and most will respond since I suppose the pace is more laid back doing the same show every night giving them more time just being at the theatre waiting to perform.

You won't get an authentic Daniel Craig from managers at least not 99% of the time, but when he was in a play he did sign.

I wrote to all the older models on The Price Is Right and about a year later I got autographs and pix of Holly Kathleen and the blonde one, but they were all burned in a house fire after my father's death

This is sort of a long tale, so bear with me...

Back when Star Trek: The Next Generation was first on the air, my roommate noticed that the Construction Coordinator's name was Al Smutko. He liked the name (think he probably thought it was funny at first), and so he started the "Al Smutko Fan Club", which honestly, consisted of the four of us living in the house at the time saying "Yay, Al!" whenever his name came on the screen.

We began to notice that each year, as we did this, Al's name was one screen higher on the credits each season. So our goal became to make it "Al Smutko presents: Star Trek The Next Generation". About season 3, my roommate decided to write a letter to Al, and tell him what we'd done. My other roommate had "Al Smutko Fan Club" buttons made up, and we sent a few along.

Well, we got a reply: and a request for more buttons! It seems that Al thought the idea was fun, showed the letter and buttons around, and now the CAST wanted their own buttons!

This started a correspondence between my roommate Mike and Al Smutko which continues to this day. They exchanged Christmas gifts one year, and Al sent Mike one of the brass plaques that adorn the 'bridge' of the different Federation ships! It was beautiful. The funny part about the plaques is they include the stardate the ship was launched and all the 'admirals' that attended the launch, including many members of the set construction team.

Al even got a couple of us on to the closed set for Next Generation during hiatus between sixth and seventh season, something he wasn't really supposed to do!

I myself have spoken to Al on the phone a couple of times, when I had some questions about the industry while I was looking for work. A truly kind and gracious man, especially to his 'fan club'.
I really can't believe this. For years now, since Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered I have been watching the credits of all Star Trek shows and movies for the Al Smutko name, and when it comes on I would holler out "SMUTKO!" to make my husband laugh. Twenty-five years of "SMUTKO"s and I had no idea anyone else ever noticed the amusing name. I am crushed that the fan club seems to be closed down, as I can't find it anywhere on the web, and all links go to a page no longer available. I still would join it in a flash. If you're old roomie has any buttons left over, I'd kill for one! SMUTKO FANS UNITE! :cool: Here's to the fans all over who missed the parade but were and still revel in Smutko coolness. :wave:

Many times, fortunately, although it took me six letters to David Hyde Pierce to get an autographed picture. Not complaining at all because I cherish it. I have a lot of autographed pictures, from Gordon Clapp and Mark Paul Glossear of NYPD Blue fame, Kathy Brier of One Life to Live and some other people. Fan mail is probably a lost art but I still like writing letters on occasion even if I don't receive anything back. I like letting people I like (celebrities) know how much I enjoy watching their performances and how they've changed my life.

This was about 1992-1993, whenever the film "Stay Tuned" came out. I was in middle school, and thought John Ritter was the best actor ever (as an adult, he's still one of my favorites). I wanted to write to him, and got an address from a message board of a pre-Internet online service. I wrote a handwritten letter on notebook paper, in blue colored pencil about how I admired his work. Sent it off and hoped for the best...

Three months later, my mom brings in the mail and hands me a small envelope. No discernible return address. I open it up, to find a small cast picture of Three's Company (Ritter, Knotts, Klein, DeWitt, Barnes). Just them, like they're posing for a photo, no studio promo logos or anything. On the back? Everybody's signatures! They looked nice and neat, and too much like 'pen-on-paper' to be stamps, but I suppose I'll never know.

A year after Ritter's death, we packed house, and I went on my own to Florida. Cleaning out my room, I dug through a box of old papers, comics, and magazines, and found the photo...which I had put in a hard plastic photo sleeve while in college. I showed my mom the photo, then flipped it over. She was surprised to remember I had his autograph.

Now, as on May 2016, I'm married. Before my wife moved in, I cleared out that same old box and threw most of it away, saving only what was worth keeping - including that cast picture.

When I was a "tween," I wrote letters to all the boys in the cast of Beverly Hills, 90210-- Luke Perry, Jason Priestley, Brian Austin Green, and Ian Ziering.

I didn't get autographed pictures back, but I did get 5x7 postcards with their signatures printed on them. Not the same, but pretty cool for an eleven year old nonetheless. :)

Today,

I mailed a letter to Angela Watson (AKA my biggest crush, dream girl, and the hottest girl I ever saw on Friday nights) in hopes that I could maybe get an autographed picture or a nice response from her.

I use to get a lot of pictures from TV actors when I was younger.

Yes many times. I have a thick 3 ring notebook filled with autographed photos in protective sheets. I stopped collecting them a few years back, none of the new stars really interest me.
