View Full Version : Laura was TOO OLD to be in the kitchen crying because she couldn't go to Harvard
TVFactFan 08-21-2008, 11:41 PM Damm that scene made her look like a weirdo-lol Grown women starts boo hooing because she finds out her DAD can't afford to send her to college. They could have just eliminated the crying part and left eveything else in when she walked in the living and said she didn't want to go to harvard.
Brieannas21 08-22-2008, 12:28 AM No she wasn't, she had her hopes up and she had been dreaming of going to Harvard. I don't see anything wrong with her crying, her feels was hurt and her dreams were dashed.

Teary eyed not crying like a 10 year old

If she's been thinking that she's going to Harvard from the time she was in (lets say) 4th grade until 12th. You don't think that she shouldn't cry?? That is very insensitive.

Tears rolling down the eyes, not boo hooing like she was doing.

No doubt about there, but then (while still in tears) tries to played it off like she didn't want leave home and all that stuff

Not to nitpick i know it was brought up recently, but do y'all think it's really odd Laura and Steve was in High School for 6 years?
Jessica 08-22-2008, 08:43 AM Umm... I don't think there's an age limit to cry.

That's true but the WAY she was crying made her look weird
draccers 08-23-2008, 05:34 PM You know, going by the amount of posts you've made and the constant worthless topics just to say lol or something, I think you just post for the sake of...posting. Reminds me of this guy on the Home Improvement board who went nuts just cuz Mark did an "evil" laugh.
"No guys, but WHY did he laugh that way?!"
-_-

GARFIELDKOOL 08-23-2008, 05:53 PM But anyway, you are never too old to cry especially something like getting into a big time colleege like Harvard. It was her dream, and it was shattered. No, a 18 or 19 year old girl is NOT too old to cry, if anything one would expect a teenage female to cry over not getting excepted into a college.

I stopped watching the show regularly during this time, was there a conclusion to the issue? Did she ever end up going to Harvard, or was it just a shattered dream? If she didn't get to go, I wish they wouldn't have brought Harvard into the picture at all. I know that Carl and Harriette had a household to keep up, but it seems odd that they didn't put aside any money for Laura to go to school.

I can tell from the eps I'm watching now that I stopped watching the show too around this time. I don't even remeber these eps. Like the one with Laura and Steve Kissing at the prom

It was five years (1991-1996) Time froze between 1992 and 1994 for Laura, Steve and Eddie who was a senior for a second year in 1993.
For Solomon, I do remember Laura kissing Steve at the prom. I hated that simply because he was dating Myra at the time.
Laura had every right to cry. When I saw this ep on TGIF, I knew that the writers would conjure up some way for Kellie Williams to stay on the show and they did. Shows pull the cliche of having the character talking about going to some far away college and then if they still have a contract with the show, the wrtiting is changed so that the character goes to a local college or university.
BTW, Laura's short hair is not cutting it on the 3J's missing episode. The hair looks like one of Diana Ross' wigs from a 1966 Ed Sullivan episode.:o

Since you brought up the 3J episode, When did the Winslows get another attic? In the pilot episode when Grandma Winslow came to stay with them didn't Eddie moved into the Attic so that his Grandma could have his room??
ThomasE 08-24-2008, 11:26 PM Good Point, Brie! During season two, Myrtle was trying to climb through Eddie's window and it did not look like the attic to me. There is some inconsistency somewhere.

Please stop your insults here. If you are going to dish it out, you have to expect people to give it back to you.

But it was a very emotional episode for Laura. Her parents weren't rich enough to pay for her to go to Harvard, and they weren't poor enough to grant her financial aid either. Hmmm... Couldn't she have taken a loan, or gotten a scholarship? However, there's nothing wrong with going to IOU either.
There was a very similar episode on "Roseanne", except that Becky didn't go to college at all in the end, but she eloped with Mark instead.
Lorimar Television 08-28-2008, 04:58 PM It wqas always the attic. In season one when they hide the dog, Carl comes in and it looks like a staircase is behind him.

Haven't seen anyone "give it back" to me yet. And you're an administrator. Look at how many damn worthless topics this guy makes. Good god. How about showing a little authority rather than just telling one guy who points it out to shove off? Of course I'll be banned now I assume. Oh wait, this site only makes your messages not appear AT all except to yourself when you're banned, and they don't bother telling you if it happened or not, since they wuss out.
Is it any wonder I've had to have over 4 accounts here already since this place always bans me for pointing out morons? Yet I still have the ability to post, but can only see my posts if I'm signed in. Honestly, you SUCK as administrators here.

 Wait a minute! R U the guy on the Home Improvement board that dracers was talking about in regards to posts? It seems you and Solomon are having problems with that individual.
Sad situation. :(
TVFactFan 09-07-2008, 08:57 PM Draccers is typing posts from a mental house-lol
ThomasE 09-07-2008, 10:34 PM People, you have to realize that when you start these insults back and forth it makes it harder for the administrators. You already know how they feel about strife and insults. They tell you to stop and you don't which is unfair to a degree. I know it is hard because you have got someone egging you on but please try not to make this board into a battlefield.
Furienna 09-08-2008, 07:13 AM Draccers: Even though Solomon makes many threads, most of them are perfectly valid discussions. I don't know what you're complaining about.

Guess you'll have number 5 soon.

Probably because N@N went back to season 2
Jessica 09-13-2008, 02:52 PM I wonder why they did that. In Sweden they show season 4 right now. It's only a few rpisodes left, then they start on season 5.

Laura was more mature than Myra was. Who always threw temper tantrums every time Urkel expresses his love for Laura.

This thread is not about Myra.
Is it really necessary for you to bring your hatred of her into every thread?
JO Sweet Heart 06-01-2022, 07:25 PM I understood her crying. If she wasn't crying over not having the money to go, she cried for the reason that she gave her parents and that was the fact that going to Harvard meant being away from the only life that she has ever known.
God bless you always!!!
