View Full Version : MSN: "Is the Internet finally killing Television??
TVFactFan 08-20-2008, 11:28 AM Trying to say since the internet now has presented americans with a new age of video is this the summer the Internet kills television. My answer
HELLLLLLLLLLLL NO!!!!!!!! Not in my apartment it's not and I doubt if it ever will. I use both at the same time and will continue to do so. I use the TV to discuss things on the Internet and use the Internet to watch things on TV so it's kind of even entertainment for me.
what about everyone else????
catlover79 08-20-2008, 11:32 AM TV is killing TV. There are so many crappy new shows (i.e. REALITY) and the cable channels keep taking off the classic shows. Then they wonder why their ratings are so low. I rarely watch regular TV anymore, except for the news and Jay Leno. I watch the classic shows on DVD instead.

The internet will never be strong enough to kill TV IMO, Like you said TV kill only kill TV, nothing else. But TV picks back up in the fall anyway
Hollow 08-20-2008, 12:24 PM if tv didn't kill radio, there's no way the internet will kill tv, partly thanks to all those lawsuits over tv shows being uploaded online.

I thought the internet killed radio?
Jude The Obscure 08-20-2008, 12:52 PM Radio is still alive and kicking......I haven't bought satellite radio and don't know if I ever will and streaming audio on the internet hasn't replaced my urge to flip on my old stereo to see what song is being played.
As for TV, only TV is shooting itself in the foot. The sad fact that you can see more classics being on the net streamed or uploaded is an indication that TV is not doing its job. It is neglecting its own heritage as well as the aging American population that helped make TV what it is in the first place. I'm like Monika, I'm watching more and more of my TV on DVD than anything else.

how did the internet kill radio?
if anything, radio and internet kind of go hand-and-hand. there's been a LOT of times radio has introduced me to a song and caused me to go buy it on iTunes. and i listen to the radio online but i still put it on if i'm in the car or something. radio definitely isn't dead.
as for TV...a lot of people watch TV online now so i guess you could say that.

I so agree with you, I hardly watch tv anymore. I don't worry about missing a tv show like I use to worry back in the day.

Same here. I'd rather chew glass than sit through the trash that pollutes TV today. I remember faithfully watching the TGIF block every Friday night, and every Friday night my folks would order pizza. We'd all watch the shows together in the living room. It's a shame that those days are gone forever. :(

Yes, those were the days, my friends! Does anyone else remember the first TGIF opening, which was animated with a mouse?
TVFactFan 08-20-2008, 09:28 PM Yes, those were the days, my friends! Does anyone else remember the first TGIF opening, which was animated with a mouse?
Nope, my earliest memory is the one with the TGIF jingle in 1991
dawsongirl 08-20-2008, 09:32 PM All media seems to be killing itself, like it has a death wish. TV relies on trash, terrestrial radio plays the same 5 songs into the ground and then plays 5 minutes of commercials, the internet is loaded with spam....
they all have a death wish.

Agreed...and they have no one to blame but themselves.

I remember it..."Time For A Good Laugh, It's Time For Fun"
I can't remember what comes before "It's time for a good laugh"

Yes, that's the one!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers it.
James"Thunder"Early 08-20-2008, 10:29 PM I don't think so. A lot of what people watch online is episodes of current tv shows that they have missed or episodes of old shows. Unless original internet programming catches on more, the Internet won't be replacing television, even in the slightest manner.
Schmoopie 08-21-2008, 02:29 AM I'm sure that lots of people watch TV shows on the Internet, but I prefer to watch on a bigger screen (aka TV). I agree that TV is killing TV with all these crappy reality shows and so forth. As for radio, I don't like today's radio stations (or most music for that matter). I recently found this wonderful station (on AM radio if you can believe that!); KIXI radio AM 880 that plays all these old (and new) songs. I was SO excited when I found out that they will play Harry Connick Jr. because our all-Jazz station doesn't! They also play Michael Bubble, Frank Sinatra; all the old classic stuff. I just love it! I think they mainly broadcast out of California, because they are always talking about Ventura, CA. They call their radio shows "The Music of Your Life".

Dusty's Fan 08-21-2008, 05:01 AM The opening ceremonies of the '08 Olympics in Beijing drew incredible numbers of viewers, unless I'm mistaken. I think that showed how TV can still be very strong for live material especially.
Corolla 08-21-2008, 10:00 AM With the junk that's on today, watching paint dry could kill TV.
waichingliu81 08-21-2008, 11:03 AM well my answer to that question is no- television is killing itself with all the crap that is on tv. that's why i choose not to watch shows on the tv- apart from the olympics that is- but on the internet. classic cartoons and sitcoms that i love to sit through and be entertained by. not shows like lost, desperate housewives etc and cheap reality trash.
same with the radio- don't listen to the current music scene anymore. prefer the oldies from the 70s and 80s especially
TVFactFan 08-21-2008, 11:13 AM The Internet has killed these things for me since 2002

Mikado 08-21-2008, 05:05 PM As Cat said...TV is killing TV, with a lack of good programming and foresight as to what viewers want to see
