OMG, this is gonna be tough...I just went through the list, and there are 20 episodes I'd consider. I'll do a Top 10 and a second 10, I guess:

1) It's Whether You Win or Lose
2) Better Late - That's A Pun - Than Never
3) The Lars Affair
4) Farmer Ted and the News
5) Chuckles Bites the Dust
6) Christmas and the Hard Luck Kid II
7) Lou's First Date
8) Two Wrongs Don't Make a Writer
9) Ted Baxter's Famous Broadcasting School
10) Once I Had A Secret Love

11) My Brother's Keeper
12) Best of Enemies
13) Some of My Best Friends are Rhoda
14) Not A Christmas Story
15) Rhoda The Beautiful
16) Rhoda Morganstern: Minneapolis to New York
17) Mary Midwife
18) Ted's Temptation
19) Lou's Army Reunion
20) The System

I can definitely already see that my top 10 is skewed toward work episodes, which makes sense since I am a journalist. And my second 10 is heavy on the great Rhoda episodes. Makes sense, since I loved the Mary character, and those were the two most important parts of her life.

Definatley!! I can't tell you how many of my other favorite episodes I left out (Like Mary's Three Husbands #11!!!)!!! I mean I can't think of one bad episode. Some episodes I like just for like one scene, such as in Son of But Seriously Folks with the gum! I love that scene. And in Hail the Conquering Gordy when Mary got out her old pointe shoes and went up, and it hurt her, because I took pointe for 2 years, then I had to give up one dance class, so I gave up pointe, but the next year, since I missed it so much, my parents let me take up pointe again, and the first time I went back up, boy did it HURT!!! So that scene makes me laugh. And any episode that centers around Betty White I love too because she is SO great. Does anyone have a least favorite episode? Mine was probably Bess You Is My Daughter Now, because I don't know why it just didn't click with me as a "Wow that's great!" episode. Although it wasn't bad, so that goes to show you.

there were one or two episodes in the first season that weren't as laugh-packed, but that was mainly because they had to develop the characters

and i didn't like the two wes callison episodes that much...he didn't seem like mary's type, and he was just such a negative, whiny character

but that's what, four out of 168 or whatever episodes?

this was a great, great show...so many laughs, especially as they fleshed out the characters

Well I don't think that the WEs episodes worked for me because, as much as Mary did a great job at becoming Mary, not Laura, I still thought of Jerry Van Dyke as her brother-in-law. Just too much like the DVD Show.

I was into Dick Van Dyke in a general way, for the sharp humor, but mainly to watch Laura (gee, I wonder why)
So I do recall Jerry as the brother in law on TDVDS, but I hadn't made that connection to Wes on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
But that's a very astute observation...and you're only 12 (or just turned 13)? I think you might be sandbagging us...you're probably 28 or 29!

I swear I'm 12. I will turn 13 in Nov. I've been watching The DVD Show since I was born. Just recently I started watching MTM (almost a year ago) and so I know the DVD Show by heart. Now I'm the same with MTMS. MTM's looks changed enough for me to not be able to be into both of the shows. But, adding Jerry Van Dyke in there was too much. Didn't care for that (and he CERTAINLY wasn't as cute as his brother).

I second the mention of "Ted Baxter's Famous Broadcaster's School." Since Fox announced that they ARE planning to releease S5, I've been thinking of that ep. a lot. It's def. one of my all-time faves.

As for an official list of favorites, I've tried several times, and I can never narrow it down. But just from looking at your lists, I have to say I love "The Dinner Party," "Put on a Happy Face," "The Good-Time News," "Sue Ann's Sister," "Once I Had a Secret Love" and a bunch of others that I'll prob. think of 2 minutes after I post this. LOL
