Last night in the ep about Laura wanting to get a nose ring, she was telling her mom that it's her body and she should be able to do what she wants with it and Harriet says-"Not until you are 18???

Wait a minute,

In 1989-wasn;t laura atleast 12? which means that
1990-13
1991-14
1992-15
1993-16
1994-17
1995-18
1996-19

So how the hell was she not 18 yet?

If her birthday was like in April, then she would have been 18 in 96. It all depends on what month her birthday falls on, since Family Matters started towards the end on 89.

I always thought her and jaleel played their real life ages which is why I was confused that they were still in highschool in 1995 since they were both 19

Jaleel is born in November and Kellie in March, both are born in 1976. So if the characters were 19 in 1995, that must be their real ages.

I'm saying that I thought they played their real ages on the show, they obviously didn;t play their real ages on the show if Laura wasn't 18 yet in 1996

Why would you think that? You of all people should know that Characters on TV are never the same age as the actor

But both Kellie and Laura was 13 in the first season.

Eddie spent 5 years in HS also.

The number of years Carl and Harriette were married was inconsistent too.

That is the beauty of TV. You don't age every year.

Yeah, she was definitely in high school longer than she should have been. That's probably also why she looked older and older, yet it took her 6 or so years to get out of high school. Just 1 of the many inconsistencies of Family Matters.

Also I'm assuming that in the first season Eddie was suppose to be at least 15 so he spent some extra time in High School as well.

Yep and in a fall 1992 episode(the one where he moves in with Steve), he tells Carl he's a senior in HS, but doesn't go off to college til fall 1994.

It's just one year, so it doesn't really matter, does it?

Lorimar Television

Yeah, Eddie was 15, Laura was 13, and Judy was 9 when the show started. Dont forget Carls age consistency, In the season 3 episode where Steve has him take the lie detector test he says hes 38, and he obviously couldn't have been lying. Then in the season 4 premier when Carl and Steve go on that show, Carls age says 42. And Carl and Harriets marriage yearrs are inconsistant, and Aunt Rachel, and Judy, and, well alot!

Eddie: In "Son" from early 1991 he's 16, but in "Tips for a Better Life" from 1996 he's 19.

Eddy was a Freshman in High School (a 9th-grader) in the first season, so that would rather make him 14 years than 15 years old, right? Laura said she was a Freshman in that episode, where she joined the cheerleader squad. Wasn't that in season 3? It seems like they went to High School for five years instead of four.

Laura was an 8th grader in season two. No doubt about that.

The actor, Darius McGrary, was twentytwo then.

I always thought so too.

When they let Eddie go to school for a fifth year, I gues they had to let Laura and Steve remain an extra year. Steve and Laura were 20 by final season's end. Eddie was turing 21.

Yeah, but in Marriage 101 they showed the high school as an establishing shot.

Maybe they taught 7th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, 10th grade, 11th grade and 12th grade in the same building.

Or maybe, which is more likely, I'm afraid, they made a goof.

True, but that is the only stock footage they used. They were ion the eighth grade. Even Maxine proves it by saying that marriage partner/classmate cheated on her.

Maxine: He cheated on me...with an older woman. I caught him at the movies with a 9th grader.

That is true.

Marie Jo Payton in real life is younger than Telma Hopkins, yet she plays the older sister.

Ron Howard was a few years younger than Anson Williams in real life yet they played the same age.

Will Smith was born in 1968, so in 1990 When Fresh Prince of Bel Aire came out he was almost 22 years old, but yet he played a 16 year old from Philly.

Tracy Gold in real life is a year old than kirk Cameron. She was born 1969, he was born 1970, yet he plays the older child.

Jason Earles from Hannah Montana is in his 30's but yet he plays a teenager on the show only 2 years older than Hannah.
