This is probably dumb, but if you become a member they don't charge you a monthly fee do they?

It's not dumb at all. I've never used Amazon.com. I use Barnes and Noble. com, but they have a Reader's Advantage card that you can buy for $25 a year. It sounds expensive but you get all kinds of discounts and sometimes they will send you coupons for free Starbucks drinks to use in their stores. So I always renew mine, because it turns out to be a great bargain! Plus everything is always an extra %10. Even sale/clearance stuff!

No, Amazon doesn't charge a monthly fee. Although you can join Amazon Prime which offers free shipping or something, and that is a monthly fee. I'm not a Prime member, so I'm not exactly sure how that works, but I do know there's a fee involved. Regular Amazon members only pay for what they buy.
