View Full Version : Wonder why the un-aired pilot isn't a bonus on big bang 1st season set?
TeeVeeCloset 08-18-2008, 07:20 PM I am axiously awaiting the arrival of "The Big Bang Theory" season 1 set, but as usual more indepth extra's could have been included on the set without any added expense to the studio......two unaired pilots were shot, the second being basically the aired pilot with a very primative opening....but the first unaired pilot is a real gem that shows that the studio executives and production team did some very needed recasting and retooling that made the incredible series we know today as "The Big Bang Theory".....here is a brief synopsis of the unaired first pilot......
First Kaley Cuoco does not appear!....the female lead is played by Andrea Walsh and was named "Katie". She is met by Sheldon & Leonard crying on a curb about her boyfriend and soon is asked to stay with them. The character of "Katie" is much more sexually looser than our beloved "Penny". In fact in the pilot she totally exposes herself to the boys, of course her backside is covered by a towel to the camera! The characters of Howard & Rajesh are not included and sorely needed. Basically it was originally a sort of geeky "Three's Company" with two guys and a girl living together. Sheldon also isn't as disliking of "Katie" as he is with Penny. The theme song used throughout is "She Blinded Me With Science". Much of the dialogue and jokes from the pilot were re-used thoughout episodes from the first season.
But again I think it would have been extremely interesting to include this as a extra on the first season set!
Pavan 08-18-2008, 07:45 PM Good call on your part. Totally forgot to mention that in the review in the extras part even though Lorre and Prady discuss the original pilot on the featurette. Have you seen (or have) the original unaired pilot?

I knew if I mentioned "Three's Company" it would get a quick response from you pav!....lol.....Yes I have the pilot and it is so different.....I know at times I have been critical of some of the post strike season episodes, but that is only because I expect so much from this show because of its brillant writing and casting. After seeing the first pilot, they really made the right decisions....I sincerely don't think it would have lasted beyond the first season, but it is a fascinating watch.
JulieSomoski 08-18-2008, 07:58 PM Man, I'd love to get a hold of the unaired pilot - it would easily make any Big Bang Theory DVD set worth my money. Warner has done it before, too - they added the Full House unaired pilot episode on its season 1 set. Too bad they couldn't have done it with BBT, although it is a possibility for season 2.

Do you think it's possible to find a torrent of it? If so, I'd love to download it.
BTW, who play's the role of Penny in the unaired pilot episode?

There is no Penny character, she is Katie instead and played by the actress Andrea Walsh as mentioned in my synopsis review as the first post in this thread.

Sorry. I guess when I first read the thread...I skipped your post by accident, lol.
MrRetro_08 08-19-2008, 09:58 AM Who's Andrea Walsh?
SheldonIsAwesome 05-23-2010, 03:15 AM I know this thread is over 2 years old, but I badly really want to watch the original unaired pilot but can't find a source for it ANYWHERE. I want to watch the one where Penny isn't even in the show.
Can someone please assist?
Thank you. I really want to watch it!!
Sosti 05-23-2010, 07:06 AM me too!
nononono 06-03-2010, 10:27 PM I have recently watch the unaired pilot can be found on ninjavideo.net but you'll need to have Divx install, if you wish for me to find a torrent of it or a download link instead of watching it online say so and I will try. Keep im mind that if u let the divx video fully load u can save it.
flimt 06-10-2010, 07:43 PM Hey,
I actually watched the unaired pilot today, and what struck me is how much of a 'Seinfeld' vibe this thing has... I mean, the music, the overall look (dressing, sets, etc.), and even the 'plot'! There's something very early 90s about the pilot, and I'm not sure it would have been viable in that format...
Anyone else thought the same?
CharlieRunkle 08-11-2010, 05:58 PM It's Amanda Walsh.
Dr. Thong 02-19-2011, 12:10 PM My guess is that they'll include it someday on a "complete series" DVD set, or perhaps as an extra if they reissue season 1 on blu-ray.
