View Full Version : Fonz statue unveiled tomorrow...
YoliUSA 08-18-2008, 04:49 PM As we all know, the Fonz's statue will be unveiled tomorrow at Milwaukee. I decided to create this thread to post any info or pictures of the activities tomorrow found on the web, or taken by someone who attended the event.
I found some interesting info about the statue:
-It will be life-size, so it will stand at 5'6" (Henry Winkler's height)
-The statue was intended to attract tourists to Milwaukee, as a spot for photo opportunities.
Also...some of the locals aren't happy with the new statue:
But Mike Brenner isn't so happy. He would have rather had the donors put the effort and money toward the local arts scene.
Brenner founded Hotcakes Gallery in Milwaukee and threatened to shut it down in protest after hearing of the statue. He already wasn't doing well financially and closed it in spring. Before the statue goes up, Brenner planned to spread bird seen all over the site.
"I want the largest birds with the fullest bellies to constantly be flying overhead the fans of the Bronze Fonz," he said in an e-mail. "It's a truly symbiotic relationship. I give a present to the birds and the birds give a present to the Bronze Fonz fans."
Winkler said he doesn't expect to please everyone.
"I hope for this gentlemen's sake he doesn't spend the rest of his life buried in birdseed," he said.

robyrob 08-18-2008, 09:01 PM so this guy is jealous of the Fonz because he can't run a business?
hopefully he can't run a bird-guano crusade either.

Avilos 08-18-2008, 11:18 PM I going down tomorrow as well. Because the statue unveiling is invitation only ,and I have an hour plus drive from Sheboygan, my father and I are planning on arriving at 10:30am. In time for the Custard social at the Peck Pavilion. From my understanding the cast members are going to be there too, right?
We are doing as much in the day as possible. At 2:30pm we have tickets for the new Harley Davidson Museum. We have tickets to the Brewers game. I want to see the parade at 5:45 but I am worried that we would miss the cast pre-game ceremony. The traffic may be crazy!!
Some of the details I have read online contradict each other. I had thought that the statue location had been finalized as being in front of Rock Bottom Brewery. But an interview with the sculptor a few days ago said it will be up the street in Pere Marquette Park....
Luckily there is not that much distance between these locations and my father grew up in Milwaukee and still works there a lot - so he knows his way around the city!

Yes, he was there. The only members of the cast that did not attend were Ron Howard and Scott Baio.

Pat Morita wasn't there, nor Al, to be exact.

Pat Morita died a couple of years ago, and from what I hear, Al's not in the best of health. I think he's about 90 by now.

That would explain it. IMDB says he was born in Kenosha so if he was in better health, he probably would have been there too and gone back to his hometown.
anglemark10 08-22-2008, 12:14 AM Yes, he was there. The only members of the cast that did not attend were Ron Howard and Scott Baio.
... or any of the cast from the later seasons. :(
Chocolate Moose 08-22-2008, 09:56 AM I know Pat passed a while back. I think we even discussed it here. But I heard that Al ws in fine heatlh, just not interested in all the hoopla. I think we dicussed that here too !
