If you don't already have this 38 episode DVD, deepdiscount.com has a buy one get one free sale until Sunday on select Mill Creek DVD's, and this one is included. It's priced at $8.29, which is a good deal in itself, but now you can get two different DVD's at this price. Shipping is always free. This is one of the better sets, in my opinion.:)

Hi,
Yes "Fun With Ozzie & Harriet" is just the first 4 discs exactly as "The Essential Ozzie & Harriet" both by Millcreek.

Thanks Honeybea. I thought it was this set. I'm always so eager to get new Ozzie's that that I bought the 38 Mill Creek set even though I knew the 100 ep one was coming out a little while later. But I got the 38 ep one for only $9.99 so it was worth it to me.

Not exactly. I have both sets and the 38 episodes on the "Fun With Ozzie & Harriet" are spread out on 5 discs on the "Essential" set, plus the episode "Ricky's Big Night" is on disc 4 or 5 (don't remember right now) on the
"Essential" set.

But the episodes are just the same on both sets (running time, commercials, Ricky singing).

It was so cool that they included some eps with the commercials. I hope Mill Creek comes out with another set. Wished the Shout! eps had commercials!

Yes, the commercials are great. I really enjoy them. I was watching another set I had, can't remember what company did it, and they even cut out the singing on Ghost Town, which was in the middle of the episode. Thank goodness I have a couple of other copies of this episode.

For some odd reason, it seems that very few of the DVD set releases come with the commercials. What a shame that is cause the commercials add such a great touch of vintage nostalgia. Kudos to Mill Creek for being the exception to the rule, and of all the sets, for being the one to give the biggest bang for your buck. I still can't get over that they did a 100 ep set - my hat is off to them just amazing! What a lovely way for someone to get a good feeling for the show. Just a shame for me personally that I had so many of the 100 already.

I really liked the Aunt Jemima and Quaker Oats commercials seen on some releases.

"Aunt Jem-i-i-i-i-i-ma my my!"
"Quaker Oats a-a-a-nd Mother's Oats..."

Makes you wonder why a company puts out more than one brand of essentially the same product--for instance, Quaker also puts out Crystal Wedding Oats--same product as Quaker, with the added bonus of a cheap plastic glass inside!

Guess it creates more oats to sow...as in $$$

I like the unusual commercials, like on one VHS set I have a commercial for Salem cigarettes "which refreshes your tate" LOL and a cute one on the Poloriod Swinger. I also have a set where there are commercials on Vanquish (pain reliever) and Foremost milk!

But the regular commercials like the ones on Kodak and QO are nice too. And of course, MMMMMMM Aunt Jemimas!!!!!

Well, actually yes you're right. If I have them at home I could minimize the carbs pretty decently. I know I could find a brand of higher fiber lower carb higher protein waffles or pancakes out there (I've seen them in the past) and if I use the lite syrup reasonably wouldn't be too bad. But outside in a restaurant, never!

And since I don't have a problem with cholesterol or sodium I could have a small portion of ham, bacon or sausage.

I don't agree....The set i bought before "essential" was released is pictured at the top of this thread as "Fun With Ozzie & Harriet", mine is 4 discs and is the first 38 episodes exactly as "essential". perhaps it was issued in different configurations.

My set is exactly the same too, as the first four discs. of the 100 episodes. I hate that they included these very same shows in the 100 episodes since I already had these same episodes. Oh well, guess that's what happens when I have to have them "immediately" as they're released.

How about the commericals for the dog food with 100% USDA certified horse meat... that one's always a shocker to me when I see it. I don't think they allow that in dog food any more...

Ozzie did a great deal of commercials on the show and I especially like the one where he tells the audience you do not need a color camera to use color film. A classic.

Must be. Mill Creek did that with a couple of cartoon sets I have from them.

Anyway, I scanned the back cover of the "Fun With Ozzie & Harriet" and the backs of the sleeves of the first five discs of the "Essential Ozzie & Harriet Collection" sets I have. Sorry that the "Fun With Ozzie & Harriet" scan is big, looked terrible when I tried to make it smaller.

I thought I read before that the 100 set was actaully a mistake. It was suppose to be broken up into different sets. But somehow a snafu happened and 100 episodes were all released on one set, Which is also why the price for 100 of them was so cheap.

Did anyone else hear anything like that?

While I would love to see all the 435 episodes, I agree with CJ and Honeybea that Dave will probably never release them all, but the grandchildren most likely will, so while I would love to see them, I hope it's a long time in coming.

Many happy and healthy years to Dave!!! :)

Maybe the grandkids would release Ozzie's Girls too.

As some of you may know, I recently sent a complete business proposal to David's & The Nelson Estate representation regarding licensing "Ozzie's Girls" for DVD release.....I cannot get into exact details, but the response did not go well and I doubt we will see it for many years or if ever....basically the releases do not make enough money for The estate.

I guess that the way it is with a lot of the older shows, not making enough money. It's a shame, there's so many good shows I'd love to get. I do hope David Nelson is around for a very long time, even though we won't get to see the rest of the episodes.

Ozzie did not want certain episodes released in syndication because he felt that some episodes were just not good enough to be reran. I guess it was a personal thing where he felt certain stories just didn't gel or were not funny enough, so that is why he only allowed 200 episodes in the initial syndication package. After Ozzie passed on and David took control, he allowed another 100 to be added when The Disney Channel purchased the series. I guess maybe David feels the remainder really doesn't measure up--after all, there have to be some turkeys in the episodes produced. Still, shouldn't we fans be allowed to decide that for ourselves? I guess we should be grateful--look at how many series from the '50s and '60s that will probably never again see the light of day in reruns, much less DVD release.

Funny you should mention "Wagon Train". I just got a 196 episode set yesterday, and have just finished watching episode one with guest star Ernest Borgnine. This is one more series I haven't seen since it originally aired, and it's a real pleasure to watch it again.

Hey Jude, (sorry for that one)

I want to add some thoughts to Ozzie's decision for episode selection for syndication and how it effects us today....I was watching "The Testimonial" yesterday and felt it was a sub-par episode...even though I enjoy all episodes even when occasionally they are not classics. "The Testimonial" features Harriet (off camera) hitting Ozzie over the head with a frying pan and it got me thinking that perhaps this is one that Oz wouldn't have selected for syndication. I want to add also that Ozzie was perhaps told to limit his selection to 200 episodes because in those days they didn't syndicate entire runs of long running series...that brings us today....since I believe all 435 episodes of O&H are in the public domain, many of the episodes that are available have original commercials from original films and are not part of Ozzies original 200. So the theory that David doesn't let out episodes that his father didn't choose, even though he did with the disney channel airings, is definatley probably true. BUT that doesn't stop us and public domain companies from seeing episodes that technically Ozzie didn't think held up. just some random thoughts....what do you think?

Jude The Obscure
08-21-2008, 03:25 PM
You are probably correct, TeeVee. and you owe me $327  (the Hey Jude royalty fee)

I was thinking of how many episodes I've seen that were not part of the original syndication package.

Look at My Three Sons--for years, the b&W years were never in syndication.
Same thing with other long running shows--of course, Lassie was syndicated under different titles.

Ozzie could have sold at least 2 different packages--the early years as "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", the later years as "The Adventures of The Nelson Family".-

Funny you mention My Three Sons about the synidcation. My Three Sons went off the air the same year I was born. I use to watch re-runs of the show all the time. It wasn't until Nick at Nite started airing the B/W epiosdes in the mid/late 80's that I even realized there were Black and White episodes.

Same thing with Bewitched. Until I saw the B/W episodes on TV Land in the late 90's I had no idea Bewitched started in black in white.. and began with Sam and Darrins honeymoon. I always thought it started with a 1 year old Tabitha, And the Second Mrs. Kravitz

Jude The Obscure

I learned about My Three Sons b/w episodes through TV reference books and never understood why we weren't allowed to see them in reruns back then.

I knew about BW's black and white shows because the reruns from the '70s had them. It was until like '78 or '79 they stopped showing them and then the show was repackaged in the '80s by Colex as a color show only.
