This is primarily for board regulars, but others could respond, too. I'm curious as to where The Mary Tyler Moore Show rates on all of your personal lists of the Top 10 sitcoms of all-time.
I think the show will rank first on a lot of lists besides mine (and it should, gosh darn it!), but it might be fun to see what else makes the lists. And it might be interesting to see if the older folks give credit to any newer shows, and to see if the young'uns recognize the classics.

My all-time Top 10, with quick comments (I'm mid-40s, btw):

1) The Mary Tyler Moore Show (Best star, cast, writing, and directing)
2) The Dick Van Dyke Show (MTM as Laura; B+W only; WAS the '60s)
3) The Bob Newhart Show (Bob's laid-back style slayed me)
4) The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (I never thought I'd like it but lots of laughs)
5) Seinfeld (Loved how the storylines all became connected at the end)
6) M*A*S*H* (Alternated between great drama and great comedy)
7) All in the Family (Ground-breaking, with some hilarious classic moments)
8) The Honeymooners (Takes you back to a time; humor about regular life)
9) Happy Days (Until it tanked; 3d season when they went live was brilliant)
10) Brady Bunch (Bubble gum, I know, but it brings back good memories)

Thank you. "Only 12" is something I get a lot. People think I act and look much older. I am turning 13 on November 19 though!! (Like that makes a HUGE difference!) *shrugs*

Well, I was about your age when I first started getting interested in "the classics". Enough said.

Some great lists already posted!
TMTMS is tops on two and fourth on two...that's about what I thought.

A few early observations:
1) Choosing favorite sitcoms is like picking your favorite music. Everybody's list will be different, and there's no right or wrong answer.
2) The Odd Couple, Barney Miller, and Welcome Back Kotter were the toughest omissions on my list.
3) On the other hand, I never really got into I Love Lucy, Bewitched, or Home Improvement, but that's just me...who knows why people like what they like?
4) There was only one mention of "Frasier", which even though I watched the first 3-4 seasons and enjoyed it and it eventually overtook TMTMS for emmys, I still didn't think it was as good as TMTMS...maybe that's a post for another day.
5) Yes, kudos to LauraNamesake for such great viewing habits at such an early age!

Interesting...

The first appearance of "Friends" and "The Jeffersons" on Holly's list, two shows that I liked but didn't quite make my cut.

Annball fires "Gidget" into the mix, a show I never saw but just from hearing about it I know it's a classic.

And, Mrs. Roper weighs in with "Three's Company" at the top, as one might have guessed with her handle...I'm curious, why do you so identify with Mrs. Roper...she WAS quite the distinctive character, I will say!

Mrs. Roper

Well, I actually identify with Rhonda, but I believe her name was already chosen by someone else on the board. LOL. I would not say I identified with Mrs. Roper, but I knew most people would know who that was, and it was a fun/unique name to use.

BTW, I am surprised no one else had Three's Company in their top ten list. It is a very funny/fun show!!! Especially if you like old sitcoms.

Yes, I love how you ranked Three's Company 1 and The Mary Tyler Moore Show 2...and you threw Alf in at 7!
There is no wrong answer...Three's Company was quite popular and had a very nice run.
While everybody was gawking at Suzanne Somers, though, I was a Joyce DeWitt fan.
But nobody was better than Mary Tyler Moore!

Nice list, Sunset

MTM at the top, and Three's Company third, which will please Mrs. Roper.

And Sanford and Son fourth! I forgot about S @ S...the first few years of that show were hilarious!

Yes, S&S is hilarious. The scene where Julio takes Fred and Lamont to the Mexican restaurant has me  :brent no matter how many times I see it!!!!
