A controversial advertisement for Seur, a Spanish courier company, that featured 15 Spanish basketball team members in uniform pulling back the skin on their eyelids, with smiles on their faces, appeared in the Spanish daily sports newspaper Marca yesterday. The team photo was taken at a center court bearing a dragon logo.

Wonder what's gonna happen when Yao Ming and the Rockets take on Pau Gasol and the Lakers for the first time this season?

I predict one of two things:

1) Yao will destroy Gasol OR
2) Gasol will be "injured" and unable to play in that game

On the other hand, what gives any of us the right to judge what's right and wrong for OTHER countries? That's what I've heard from the left for as long as I can remember. Now, all of a sudden, we have the right to pass judgment on other people who's culture we don't understand?

Darn right we have the right to judge them! They're idiots.

All I can say is, the USA had better beat Spain by at least 50 points. If we don't, it's not gonna feel like a real victory.

Amen. I've heard many people say they think Spain has the best team in the world, and they think the U.S. will fall to them. It has me fired up inside.

On the picture posted, I don't think what they did was racist, just really, really dumb. Can you imagine what would happen to the American players if they did that?

this isn't the first time the spanish have been accused of being racist: around 3 years ago spanish soccer fans made monkey taunts and noises in a match against england, who fielded a number of black players. and just this year, UK motor racing driver lewis hamilton- who is currently dating nicole from the girlband the ***** cat dolls- was racially abused and heckled by spanish supporters on the F1 track

 Considering Yao's track record, I think it's more likely HE would be out for that game, not the other way around.

Back on topic...Big deal. Yeah, it was a stupid move on their part, but people shouldn't get so caught up in stupid things. Luckily in this case it looks like everyone is remaining civil.

Olympic bosses will take no action against Spain after a second group of athletes was photographed making impersonations of Chinese people.

The Spanish Tennis Federation has now taken the offending image off its official website and issued a formal apology to China.

Among those visible in the latest photo are top women players Nuria Llagostera Vives, Anabel Medina Garrigues, and Carla Suarez-Navarro.

They are all competing in the Beijing Games.

The photo emerged after the country’s basketball players sparked international outrage by making slit-eyed gestures in a similar picture.

But the International Olympic Association told Sky News it was not taking any disciplinary action against the Spanish team, pointing out the latest photo was taken months before the Games began.

The spokeswoman added: "This behaviour is inappropriate. But the Spanish athletes involved have apologised formally to China for the photograph and the matter is now closed."

Olympic tennis silver-medallist Garrigues insisted the snap was not "racist" and was not intended to cause offence.

"We did it because we came to China. We don't want to do anything bad for Chinese people or Asian people," she said.

"We think maybe we took a bad picture but we never wanted to offend anybody. We didn't see it as a racist gesture."

Asked if she wanted to apologise, she replied: "Yes, sure. We never wanted to do anything bad."

Bloggers on the Sky News message board were furious.

One person, who logged in as Susan, said: "I'm Chinese, and we call Westerners 'white people' not ghosts.

"And to be frank, I'd rather have slitty eyes than be a hairy Spanish person and I am Goddamned annoyed - I'm very offended.

"A lad did this to me once and I slapped him silly – serves him right."

Another, called Amanda, said: "I hope they lose all of their medals and are sent back to Spain with nothing.

"As for the Madrid bid, I would encourage everyone to block it until Spain can demonstrate they have grown up."

Spain has been involved in several incidents involving racism in sport and the two photos will not help its chances of holding the 2016 Games in Madrid.
