View Full Version : BET Updates -- Farewell Marathons for Sanford and Diff'rent Strokes Pavan 08-14-2008, 02:02 PM http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2008/08/tv-land-september-2008-scheduleagain.html wkomorow 08-14-2008, 10:15 PM It is a shame that Thea is leaving the lineup, I also thought that it was vastly underrated. I have DVRed many of the episodes. What is with all these judge shows? Why are they so popular? icecream 08-14-2008, 10:20 PM There's definitely too many judge shows on. I don't mind Judge Judy but other than that enough already. MikeLutton 08-14-2008, 11:12 PM i not worrieed abou that im concerned for diff rent strokes n sanford hope they show good episodes during the marathon JulieSomoski 08-15-2008, 10:56 AM There's definitely too many judge shows on. I don't mind Judge Judy but other than that enough already. I agree - I'll only watch Judge Judy once so often, but besides that, every other judge show sucks. Why would BET want to trade in good shows like Thea, Sanford, and Diff'rent Strokes for more court shows? James28 08-15-2008, 11:48 AM I was getting used to having Diff'rent Strokes on BET. And I never really liked Sanford anyway. PrettyinPink55 08-15-2008, 12:45 PM Sad to see Diff'rent Strokes go. :( I hope another network picks it up, though I doubt that'll happen anytime soon, seeing as TV Land has completely revamped their schedule... TVFactFan 08-15-2008, 01:03 PM I can see a farewell marathon for Sanford or Thea but not for Diffrent Strokes. Farewell Marathons should only be for short-lived shows that are no where to be found on DVD Pavan 08-27-2008, 02:13 PM Just a reminder, Strokes farewell marathon is this Friday. Also, I'll be posting the BET September schedule shortly. We know Judge Karen and Judge Hatchett are coming, but there will also be a sitcom coming. It's a 90s sitcom and is not airing anywhere currently. Care to take guesses, Solomon and crew? I'll announce it on the blog tomorrow. JulieSomoski 08-27-2008, 04:18 PM Just a reminder, Strokes farewell marathon is this Friday. I'm guessing it's a black sitcom?-LOL. Our luck, it'll be a crappy 90's UPN sitcom  At least we know it isn't Fresh Prince, thank god! Pavan 08-27-2008, 04:34 PM Obviously it is African American, Julie. And no it isn't from UPN. JulieSomoski 08-27-2008, 04:45 PM Obviously it is African American, Julie. And no it isn't from UPN. Wow, it isn't a UPN show? It must be a pretty big show, then. Is the show airing anywhere in syndication, or is strictly airing nowhere at all at the time? Pavan 08-27-2008, 04:47 PM It's not airing anywhere at all...locally or on cable. JulieSomoski 08-27-2008, 04:58 PM I really have no idea what it could be. I'll just wait it out I guess :D TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 06:13 PM It's one of these Here and Now-1992 Out All Night-1992 Sons and Singers-1990 Rythm and Blues-1992 Me and the Boys-1994 Sinbad-1993 Jude The Obscure 08-27-2008, 06:20 PM Hmmm what about For Your Love? just a wild guess TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 06:24 PM Hmmm what about For Your Love? just a wild guess I hope it's a obscure show. And For Your Love is far from that-lol Jude The Obscure 08-27-2008, 06:27 PM Considering i have not seen it since it originally aired--that's obscure to me! LOL And why would BET invest in another short-lived sitcom? TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 06:36 PM Considering i have not seen it since it originally aired--that's obscure to me! LOL And why would BET invest in another short-lived sitcom? You forgot that Bet picked up THEA and SANFORD in March??? Both of those were one year wonders Jude The Obscure 08-27-2008, 06:50 PM I didn't forget--I said why would BET invest in another short-lived sitcom? Need glasses?? James"Thunder"Early 08-27-2008, 07:05 PM The only guess I have is "Cosby", I don't believe it's currently airing anywhere. JulieSomoski 08-27-2008, 07:43 PM The only guess I have is "Cosby", I don't believe it's currently airing anywhere. That's an interesting guess - I'd love to see that show again. I haven't watched it since it aired back in 1996. And Solomon, if they are looking for another short-lived show, Sinbad wouldn't be a bad choice, like you said. That could definitely be it. TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 07:43 PM I didn't forget--I said why would BET invest in another short-lived sitcom? Need glasses?? Well we know it's not going to be a black show that we are used to seeing in syndication so it will have to be a short-lived show especially if it's from the 90's. We know it's not going to be COSBY or FAMILY MATTERS or FRESH PRINCE or STEVE HARVEY so why do u think it won't be a short-lived 90's show? TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 08:03 PM That's an interesting guess - I'd love to see that show again. I haven't watched it since it aired back in 1996. And Solomon, if they are looking for another short-lived show, Sinbad wouldn't be a bad choice, like you said. That could definitely be it. And how many ALL BLACK SHOWS ran long in the 90's besides Fresh prince and Family Matters?-lol So I will defintely be expecting a short-lived show JulieSomoski 08-27-2008, 08:29 PM And how many ALL BLACK SHOWS ran long in the 90's besides Fresh prince and Family Matters?-lol So I will defintely be expecting a short-lived show That is very true, so it's gotta be shortlived. But Pavan already said it's not an old UPN 90;s sitcom, which rules out a lot of shortlived shows-LOL. Sinbad is a great guess, though. I would guess Living Single, but isn't that coming to TV One in September? TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 08:37 PM That is very true, so it's gotta be shortlived. But Pavan already said it's not an old UPN 90;s sitcom, which rules out a lot of shortlived shows-LOL. Sinbad is a great guess, though. I would guess Living Single, but isn't that coming to TV One in September? Yeah you are right it won't be Living Single, but I do think I will find the show to be a great pickup because pav wanted me to guess. If it was something I wouldn't like then he would have never asked me to guess-lol So I know for a fact it's not COSBY because if it was Pav would get a nasty email from me-lol Pavan 08-27-2008, 09:18 PM For Your Love has been on and off on TV One, so that won't be it. Not sure actually if you like the show Solomon. I'll give one final hint, yes it doesn't have enough episodes for "standard syndication," but it is more than a one or two year wonder. Jude The Obscure 08-27-2008, 09:19 PM Why can't it be COSBY? It's not on cable or on locals AFIK. And leave Pav alone--he doesn't deserve your nasty e-mails! Jude The Obscure 08-27-2008, 09:21 PM hmmmm, a three season wonder? with maybe 66 episodes in the package? TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 09:22 PM Why can't it be COSBY? It's not on cable or on locals AFIK. And leave Pav alone--he doesn't deserve your nasty e-mails! I know for a fact it's not COSBY because pav wouldn't have wanted me to guess Pavan 08-27-2008, 09:24 PM I only asked you to guess to see what you come up with, lol. I have no idea if you like Cosby or not. TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 09:27 PM I only asked you to guess to see what you come up with, lol. I have no idea if you like Cosby or not. You been knowing me long enough to know I don't watch Cosby. And why you would want people to guess about a show like is WAYYYYY BEYOND ME. TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 09:35 PM Well the secret is out-"COSBY" whoppee Pav you should be ashamed of yourself for keeping this minor news a secret. Nothing SEXY about that pickup. Pavan 08-27-2008, 11:29 PM How do you know it is Cosby? I never denied or confirmed that. I suggest you come back tomorrow. TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 11:34 PM How do you know it is Cosby? I never denied or confirmed that. I suggest you come back tomorrow. by your statement-"i don't know if you like cosby or not" Pavan 08-27-2008, 11:52 PM You said I knew you didn't like Cosby, and I said I didn't know that you liked it or hated it. TVFactFan 08-27-2008, 11:57 PM You said I knew you didn't like Cosby, and I said I didn't know that you liked it or hated it. If it's not a show from the 1990-1995 era then I know it's cosby JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 12:49 PM So is it Cosby or not?-LOL. I would be thrilled if it was Cosby - that is one 90's show that got no attention whatsoever. It was so overshadowed by the usual 90's hits, but it really was a great show overall. If it isn't Cosby, what else could it be? It ran more than 2 seasons - I can't think of any other 90's black show that isn't on cable or in swyndication at the moment. It's Cosby, Pav let it out the bag when he said he doesn;t know if I like cosby or not. So yes it's cosby. Pavan 08-28-2008, 01:05 PM I have now announced what it is. No one guessed it. Here is the announcement: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2008/08/bet-september-programming-includes.html Please discuss this here: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=231282 JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 01:08 PM Well, Solomon, we were both wrong-LOL. Smart Guy? What the hell kind of decision is this?-LOL. I was setting my hopes up for Cosby, and we get Smart Guy? I think I watched 1 episode of the show 10 years ago and turned off my television right away-LOL. Pavan 08-28-2008, 01:12 PM It's one of those shows that did very well in syndication, so it could work for BET. It did well on Disney Channel when they had shows like Boy Meets World, Sister, Sister and others. JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 01:15 PM It's one of those shows that did very well in syndication, so it could work for BET. It did well on Disney Channel when they had shows like Boy Meets World, Sister, Sister and others. I really don't think that many kids are watching BET like they are Disney Channel, though. I don't see the show lasting long at all. TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 01:43 PM Smart Guy is not a show for BET and it will FAIL!!!! Pavan 08-28-2008, 01:51 PM They are not targeting kids, though. They are targeting the audience who watched the series 10 years when they were 12-18 and now 22-28 and watch BET. TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 02:00 PM They are not targeting kids, though. They are targeting the audience who watched the series 10 years when they were 12-18 and now 22-28 and watch BET. I still need to know why you wanted everyone to guess about this show coming to BET?-lol I need the real reason Pavan 08-28-2008, 02:06 PM I want to see what people are thinking. This is not the first time I did this. I have done this many times. At least the show is not overplayed or not airing elsewhere...but of course people will still complain. DSfan 08-28-2008, 02:26 PM I'm surprised they gave it such a great timeslot, 5-6 is big time. JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 03:14 PM They are not targeting kids, though. They are targeting the audience who watched the series 10 years when they were 12-18 and now 22-28 and watch BET. That's a good point, but the show is still a kids/teen show at best, and will most likely only bring in younger (under 18) viewers. I have nothing against the show, but it just wasn't that good quality-wise when it first aired on the WB, and I think they could have made a better pickup. Jude The Obscure 08-28-2008, 03:24 PM I'm not complaining--at least it's not something we've seen over and over *cough FRESH PRINCE cough*, but Pav, you did say it was not a one or two season wonder--uhmmmm, Smart Guy was a two season wonder! Pavan 08-28-2008, 04:07 PM Actually it lasted three seasons. JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 05:38 PM Actually it lasted three seasons. Technically, but really, it was like 2 seasons and 7 episodes. Was that really enough for syndication? Jude The Obscure 08-28-2008, 05:51 PM I just remember two--what was it a tryout and then a season on ABC and one on the WB? or something like that? I never forgot how Disney reran it constantly--you would think they would have revive it for new episodes! JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 05:54 PM I just remember two--what was it a tryout and then a season on ABC and one on the WB? or something like that? I never forgot how Disney reran it constantly--you would think they would have revive it for new episodes! It was on ABC? All I know is that it premiered in midseason 1997 for 7 episodes, then followed with 2 more full seasons, with a total of 50-something episodes altogether. Pavan 08-28-2008, 05:55 PM It started off as a mid-season replacement in the 1996-1997 season and aired for 7 episodes. Then it had two full seasons of 22 episodes each afterwards. So it is three seasons. Lots of sitcoms started off as a mid-season replacement and their first seasons count as a season (Three's Company, Perfect Strangers), so why is this different? And no, it was on The WB for all three seasons. JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 05:57 PM It started off as a mid-season replacement in the 1996-1997 season and aired for 7 episodes. And no, it was on The WB for all three seasons. When you said it had more than 2 seasons, I was thinking along the lines of 3 or more full seasons, which is why the only show I could come up with was Cosby, that's all. Pavan 08-28-2008, 06:01 PM Yeah, but technically it is three seasons, full seasons or not. After hearing that news COSBY wouldn't have been too bad-lol BET is defintely surpassing TVLAND as the worst cable station of 2008-lol Jude The Obscure 08-28-2008, 06:10 PM ok, so it ran for three seasons and was on the WB.....I guess I made a mistake with my memory! I can admit that  JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 06:12 PM After hearing that news COSBY wouldn't have been too bad-lol BET is defintely surpassing TVLAND as the worst cable station of 2008-lol  Solomon, you're really a tough critic-LOL. But, they were definitely a lot better with Diff'rent Strokes, Sanford, and all those shows. I wonder why they let the contracts go so quickly. You are right, though. Cosby would have been a whole lot better than Smart Guy. I've only watched the show once or twice, and it just didn't appeal to me at all. Maybe it was the kid - he always came off as annoying to me. I might give it another try, though. Pavan 08-28-2008, 06:16 PM Well, anyone care to play another guessing game, LOL? TV One will be adding two short-lived sitcoms to weekends in October. Hint: Early 90s on both counts (anytime between 90-94 is early 90s). I'll announce it probably tomorrow or Tuesday. Guess away! TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 06:18 PM  Solomon, you're really a tough critic-LOL. But, they were definitely a lot better with Diff'rent Strokes, Sanford, and all those shows. I'm just stunned BET would air that show at 5pm and not air Diffrent Strokes at 5pm. Pavan 08-28-2008, 06:20 PM It's all about newer, Solomon. JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 06:20 PM I'm just stunned BET would air that show at 5pm and not air Diffrent Strokes at 5pm. Yeah, 5pm is a good slot for any show really. I don't get why they didn't try DS there right away instead of 9am, yet they show a show like SG there immediately. TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 06:21 PM Well, anyone care to play another guessing game, LOL? TV One will be adding two short-lived sitcoms to weekends in October. Out All Night-1992 Here and Now-1992 Sinbad-1993 JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 06:23 PM Well, anyone care to play another guessing game, LOL? TV One will be adding two short-lived sitcoms to weekends in October. Hint: Early 90s on both counts (anytime between 90-94 is early 90s). I'll announce it probably tomorrow or Tuesday. Guess away! Pav, why do you do this to us?-LOL One I gotta guess is Sinbad - it fits right into the category you gave us. Not sure about the other one, though. Has it aired anywhere recently? TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 06:27 PM Pav, why do you do this to us?-LOL One I gotta guess is Sinbad - it fits right into the category you gave us. Not sure about the other one, though. Has it aired anywhere recently? sinbad was never shown again after being cancelled. IIt maybe-ME AND THE BOYSfrom 1994 with Steve Harvey JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 06:29 PM sinbad was never shown again after being cancelled. IIt maybe-ME AND THE BOYSfrom 1994 with Steve Harvey I wouldn't mind watching that show - never saw it before, but I loved Sinbad on A Different World. Another guess, probably far-fetched, but I'll give it a chance: 704 Hauser. It only ran 6 episodes, but this would be a treat for me to watch again. I would be amazed if this was one of them, but it probably isn't. Pavan 08-28-2008, 06:29 PM These two probably have not aired since they aired originally. They are very short lived...so way more rare than Smart Guy. 22 episodes or less. Hopefully TV One will add more short-lived stuff to weekends. TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 06:32 PM These two probably have not aired since they aired originally. They are very short lived...so way more rare than Smart Guy. 22 episodes or less. Hopefully TV One will add more short-lived stuff to weekends. Ok that eliminates HERE AND NOW so it' between Out All Night Sinbad Pavan 08-28-2008, 06:33 PM Here and Now has 14 I thought? JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 06:34 PM Ok that eliminates HERE AND NOW so it' between Out All Night Sinbad Those would probably be my guesses, too. I'd like to see either of them since I've never seen either of them before-LOL I'm still putting out my hope for 704 Hauser. While it really was a bad show from what I've seen 15 years ago, it hasn't been aired since then, and would be a treat to see again, kind of like Checking In is to you, Solomon. TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 06:36 PM Here and Now has 14 I thought? Oh I thought you were saying the show has 22 eps JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 06:37 PM Oh I thought you were saying the show has 22 eps Wasn't that the sitcom with Malcolm-Jamal Warner? I don't think I've ever seen it, but I haven't heard great things about it-LOL TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 06:40 PM Those would probably be my guesses, too. I'm putting my money on OUT ALL NIGHT since that show has Patti Labelle Morris Chestnut Vivica A Fox Duane Martin I know it has to be that show and it's a one year wonder TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 06:41 PM Wasn't that the sitcom with Malcolm-Jamal Warner? I don't think I've ever seen it, but I haven't heard great things about it-LOL Yup that's it-lol I enjoyed the 3 eps I watched last year JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 06:44 PM I'm putting my money on OUT ALL NIGHT since that show has Patti Labelle Morris Chestnut Vivica A Fox Duane Martin I know it has to be that show and it's a one year wonder Yeah, that's a pretty good cast for TV One. I wouldn't be surprised if that was it, either. TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 06:48 PM Yeah, that's a pretty good cast for TV One. I wouldn't be surprised if that was it, either. And they are all well known so I would be surprised if it was anything else JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 06:49 PM Here's another guess: The Royal Family from 1991. Now this should I would love to see again. Only saw one episode with Redd Foxx, but I was always interested in seeing the episodes after his death. That would be another insance pickup. TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 06:59 PM Here's another guess: The Royal Family from 1991. Now this should I would love to see again. Only saw one episode with Redd Foxx, but I was always interested in seeing the episodes after his death. That would be another insance pickup. Yeah I forgot about that show, I have 7 CBS eps of Royal Family on DVD. That would be cool too JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 07:15 PM Yeah I forgot about that show, I have 7 CBS eps of Royal Family on DVD. That would be cool too Haven't seen the show since it was on CBS. The Redd Foxx episodes were obviously the greatest - I didn't watch any of the Jackee episodes afterwards, which is pretty much when it was cancelled. Pavan 08-28-2008, 07:51 PM Just curious to see what short lived series would you hope it will NOT be? TVFactFan 08-28-2008, 08:12 PM Just curious to see what short lived series would you hope it will NOT be? I can't think of a short-lived i wouldn;t want to see from the early 90's. Thea would be the only one since it already aired on BET JulieSomoski 08-28-2008, 08:23 PM I can't think of a short-lived i wouldn;t want to see from the early 90's. Thea would be the only one since it already aired on BET Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing any short-lived 90's series. Thea and Sanford were great to see again on BET. Pavan 09-02-2008, 01:59 PM This is not BET related, but here is the TV One October highlights with the two short-lived sitcoms revealed: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2008/09/tv-one-october-2008-includes-two-short.html JulieSomoski 09-02-2008, 02:06 PM We were wrong again Solomon-LOL. I was going to say South Central, too, but didn't think it would be it, since it had a VERY short run. I never watched the show, but remember hearing a lot of things about it. TVFactFan 09-02-2008, 06:25 PM Where I live was actually on my wabnt list last year and South Central was said to be very controversial so i'm interested in seeing both Didn't get to see either show because I was in college at the time they premeired Pavan 09-02-2008, 08:02 PM I vaguely remember Where I Live, but from what I remember...it was good. I have some promos for it on my Perfect Strangers episodes. |
