Today is my little dachshund Heidi's seventh birthday. I gave her a bacon
flavor chew-bone and a shampoo. (I'm sure she liked the former more than
the latter! )

Well, unfortunately the chew bone made her sick. The vet told me to give her
some Pepto Bismol to settle her stomach. I think she'll be all right. She has
kind of a delicate stomach. But I have only been giving her one of those on Christmas or her birthday. But never again. She has had bouts with an upset
stomach before. But she's resilient and always bounces right back. I'll just
have to watch more closely what I feed her from now on. :)

I hope she gets better soon TV Star. I've never heard of giving Pepto Bismol to an animal.

Well, I never heard of giving a dog Benadryl either, but that's what the vet
prescribed for her allergy. And it helped curb her itching, too! I guess dogs
are more like us than we thought. Heidi is also the first dog that I've ever
had that has a touch of diabetes. I had never heard of a diabetic dog before,
either. But her last two annual checkups, her glucose was very good. A
former school classmate of mine emailed me and told me to give her carrots,
because they're a good source of natural sugar. She loves them. Now I am
feeding her canned dog food that contains bits of carrots and peas in it. I
found out she also likes bananas and peaches. :)

I know what you mean. I seen a story a few months ago about a Doctor coming out with a new Antidepressant drug for your pets. I kid you not. I was telling my friend about it, who has several cats, and she said there was no way she would give her pets something like that. I also seen a TV Ad the other day where a Doctor has come out with a pain medication for pets. You just spray a little in the water bowl, and it takes away or helps relieve any pain your pet may have.

I hope Heidi is alright now. And I wish her a happy birthday, as soon as her stomach calms down.

Our cats have their 10th birthday coming up now in August too. We don't know the excact date they were born, because we didn't see their birth. But it was August 27th or August 28th. Their mother was a wild cat, who gave birth to them on our farmhouse attic. She had five little boys, and when they were a month old, we found them and took them into the house. We had to give two of them up for adoption (we still miss them :(), but we still have three of them.

And she only needed one dose! It took a little bit of cleverness to trick her
into taking it; I sopped a piece of bread in it. But the Benadryl (which is
cherry flavor), she lapped up straight from the measuring cup. I only gave
that to her for a few days (first every eight hours, then tapered off to every
12 hours, then to once a day, then I left it off completely). She is snoozing
on my pillow right now. Of course, if I let her she would sleep in my bed all
the time. But she has her own bed--in fact, two different dog beds. Yeah,
she's a "little" spoiled; but she's my "baby," after all.
