See the TV Land September thread, it seems Cheers could be staying on TV Land. It was set to leave 9/15, but it is on at least the week of 9/15 and 9/22 now...so it could be renewed now, but I will confirm that. TV Land will air it weekdays at 8:30am still those two extra weeks.

Fine with me. If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it. Enhance it maybe...(coughcoughcough the LHOTP sister series "Father Murphy" or maybe "Jake and the Fatman" to go with the mystery shows coughcoughcough).

Hallmark is the channel that I think has it together the most. There's no WTF shows on their line-up...everything makes sense and works well perfectly off of each other. Only change I'd make is eliminating the double-shots so that everything could be seen at one point during the daytime/afternoon. "The Waltons" and "Murder, She Wrote" get a raw deal, IMO.

OK nevermind, Cheers won't be renewed at TV Land, it will just air for two more additional weeks at 8:30am weekday mornings before leaving Sept. 29. Week of Sept. 29 schedule is not out yet since it is considered TV Land's October line-up.

On the blog you said that Cheers will lead into M*A*S*H from 6-8PM. Is that a typo or will Cheers actually air for two hours?

Typo...thanks. MASH remains 5-7pm. Cheers 4-5pm.

Great news! Maybe eventually they'll air it later, too. I always liked when TV Land had it on around 11pm/Midnight.

But hey, 4pm is still great news. It would have taken forever to get through 11 seasons airing only on weekends. Smart move by Hallmark!:cheers:

Effective this weekend (Oct. 25-26), Cheers will not air on weekends anymore. It was airing Saturday nights 1-3am, Sunday mornings 10am-12pm, and Sunday nights from 1-3am.

The show will only air weekdays 4-5pm starting next week (Oct. 27).

I guess we will see The Diagnosis Murder Movies back at Midnight on early Monday Morning's

I guess Hallmark doesn't want to overplay Cheers (I'm sure it is limited to how many times an episode can be reran).

Yes the Golden Girls moves to Hallmark in March 2009.

IIRC, Dr Quinn reruns ran for a time on Hallmark, but mostly the reruns were on PAX.

The Hallmark Channel better show some patience in their transferring slowly from running one hour dramas to adding sitcoms.....these channels expect audiences to build overnight and over react when viewing patterns and ratings dip. For over 5 years they have practically only played serious dramas, so they add cheers, mash, golden girls and the precious I Love Lucy........the dropping of some cheers slots gives me some pause on how they will react if Lucy doesn't spike ratings instantly...just some food for thought.

Cheers wasn't dropped.....they are just airing it weekdays instead. MASH has been on awhile for them so it must be doing decent.

I'm sort of glad that Hallmark is moving away from the all mystery format now that the Sleuth Channel is around and picking up all the old mystery shows and made-for-TV movies. TV Land is on a down slope and we need a new channel to carry old sitcoms on and not everyone has a satellite with access to WGN.

By the way, can anyone explain why Dish Network has Hallmark Movie Channel but DirecTV does not? I know they show a lot of RHI movies and mini series that other networks no longer have a desire to play.

I miss Hallmark since Comcast moved it and several other channels to the digital tier [especially since my digital box died]. :mad:

I think it's a dumb move to take off Cheers. How can they expect to win more viewers for the show with it now not airing?

However, the other side of makes sense as well since they can launch a bunch of sitcoms together in January in some sort of block.

With Cheers now officially cancelled, I point interested readers to my above post after it was announced that "some" airings were only being dropped. I have worked in the television industry for 28 years and know exactly the way things are discussed and now sadly drastically removed from air-schedules. Networks no longer wait for audience patterns to transition...Diagnosis Murder/Matlock/Waltons programming to Cheers, I Love Lucy, Golden Girls takes time to build.....at this rate I predict I Love Lucy to be gone within 8 weeks after being announced as part of the 2009 schedule over a year ago! I still have some hope for Lucy because she appeals to generation after generation and has never lost viewer appeal...I know children and people in their mid 20's still discovering Lucy....she truly is the exception to every viewing rule. So we shall wait and see.......

Hallmark is just acting dumb......how can you expect the audience that was used to two LHOPs in the afternoon to suddenly accept Cheers? My mom didn't.....she turned the channel in a heartbeat and asked me why they replaced LHOP. Had they kept Cheers on the weekends or move into a more promising slot of say 10pm/11pm, it may have done better. These days of wanting instant hits.....it just won't work. Had NBC acted like Hallmark, Cheers would have never saw episode 13.

I would like it better if Hallmark had went in another 50's direction and added the Hooneymooners.

Hallmark was formally Odyssey (partnered with jim henson) and actually used to run laurel & hardy and fraggle rock.....classic sitcoms filled in the afternoon, bewitched, jeannie, my three sons. those continued when it became hallmark and for a short while they also ran facts of life and other sitcoms. when they went to drama's they lost me as a viewer but obviously picked up many stay at home retirees but as pav always says thats not the demo most networks want...not sure where they want to end up with this confused half hearted journey into a mixture of little house, lucy, cheers, diagnosis murder, matlock and the golden girls. seems like it is a mixed bag like the poor very mixed up ion.

I don't see Hallmark as a mixed bag at all. They're going after an audience that isn't being sought after anywhere else, and they seem to have a good idea of what that audience wants. I really appreciate that they not only do reruns of shows, but they also do lots of original stuff to keep their network fresh.
