View Full Version : Child singer at the Olympics denied camera airtime due to her looks
ThomasE 08-13-2008, 09:45 AM I was watching NBC 4 this morning and there was a report about a cute little girl that was singing a song at the olympics but it was reported that she was lip-synching. The real voice was coming from the little girl behind the stage that was denied camera airtime because she was not cute enough to be onstage. :( Has anyone else heard about this matter?
MrRetro_08 08-13-2008, 09:54 AM Yeah I watched it on the news last night, plus some of the fireworks where fake.
Chocoholic 08-13-2008, 10:13 AM I heard about that too. Things like that happen in America all the time. Society always puts appearance over talent and personality.
I saw pictures of both girls and I think both of them are beautiful.
ThomasE 08-13-2008, 10:20 AM That was some jacked up mess. I don't like stuff like that. Wow! Whose idea was that to pull a Milli Vanilli?
Hollow 08-13-2008, 10:23 AM pretty bad.
MonarC 08-13-2008, 11:27 AM That is BS!
catlover79 08-13-2008, 11:29 AM I saw that on the news. How terrible.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 08-13-2008, 01:37 PM I heard about it. I actually thought the little girl that was denied was cuter, to tell you the truth. She had bad teeth, but wtf she's like 7 don't we all at that age?
sunshinefizzy 08-13-2008, 01:48 PM They were both cute. I just hope the girl that was denied is given a second chance. She is the better person in the matter and I hope she comes away from this a stonger girl.
Lodee 08-13-2008, 05:08 PM Wow, that's terrible. But she's not a "better" person than the one that they showed. It's not the "cuter" girls fault.

yeah, she was 9, being told what to do.
Courtnee 08-13-2008, 06:55 PM What are we teaching young girls like them by allowing this to happen? Imagine what this is doing to that girls self-esteem!

I agree, poor little girl.
Furienna 08-13-2008, 07:47 PM That was a really stupid thing to do.

No kidding. Who cares what kind of talent you have...IT'S ALL ABOUT LOOKS.
Hollow 08-13-2008, 09:56 PM the real singer commented and said she was glad she was able to be a part of the ceremony in some way, albeit she's only seven and i doubt she fully understands what happened here. chances are she'll realize it when she's older. if it were me, it would affect my self-esteem for the rest of my life. people are so thoughtless.
Brieannas21 08-13-2008, 09:57 PM They are cheating in Gymnastics, so this doesn't surprise me at all.

Is it any wonder that girls are developing eating disorders at younger and younger ages??? ohno:
Stormtracker TF 08-13-2008, 10:42 PM Ummmmm, wow...

i don't care for china really in the olympics- it gets rather boring when one nation dominates the olympics and gets all these medals- not that i am jealous because i am not and plus, i'm not a huge fan of sport myself. i'm rooting for great britain (as i'm british), US and australia.
what i dislike in particular is that chinese people don't like to be told when they are in the wrong- they think that they- or should that be we are perfect and better than everyone else, because then they'd accuse non-chinese/eastern people of being 'racist'

Exactly, they are cheating and everyone knows it, it’s been proven and there's nothing that anyone can do about it. It's just disgusting

she sure as hell didn't look 16 to me, probably 10 or 11, or even younger
sunshinefizzy 08-14-2008, 02:39 PM Wow, that's terrible. But she's not a "better" person than the one that they showed. It's not the "cuter" girls fault.
Duh, I was talking about the people who took her out of it. I realize the little girl had the oppurtunity to be on international t.v and she took it and ran with it. She had to, what other choice did she have??? You and saftey pin obviously didn't get my original post.
Mikado 08-14-2008, 08:02 PM Point 1:
The real singer was no less cute than the other, i hope maybe someone will book her for Letterman or the Tonight show, so she can sing in person, might even be a "break" for her, lets hope!
Point 2:
Well, I know the gymnasts looks young but, with Asian women, it's REALLY hard to tell the ages of young girls sometime; I know a few who look at least 10 years younger than they really are, so, they may be the right ages; in any case, if they ARE cheating, they will be DQed, in time.

It has been PROVEN that the Chinese girls are 14. But there's nothing that USA or Romania can do about it.
Tweety 08-14-2008, 10:37 PM Re: the 7 year old girl who did the real singing.
These are Communists we're talking about here. They couldn't care less about any individual performer.
The 7 year old girl who did the real singing did HER job. The 9 year old who appeared on camera did HER job. It was the 7 year old girl's job to sound good. It was the 9 year old girl's job to look good to the world on camera.
Re: gymnastics.
There's no doubt that the Chinese are using underage girls to perform out there. And of course no one's going to do anything about it.
The American girls can't use that as an excuse though. Our team was falling off the balance beam, and we had at least 3 girls step out of bounds on the floor exercises that first night...one poor girl even LANDED about 2 or 3 feet outside the line...it wasn't as if she landed inbounds and then lost her balance and fell out... he LANDED further out than anyone I've ever seen... that was unbelievable.
Re: the delay in starting the USA's turn in the events...
I understand how, in something like this, a delay in your starting performance time can have a devastating psychological effect on your performance... you get mentally geared up to get out there and perform, and with the delays, all you can do is sit there and think about it, which a lot of times is not good... but again, these are communists we're dealing with here. No one should be surprised.

I must have missed this, but how was it proven?

Yes, I'd like to know that, too. Anyone?

you're damn right! China couldn't care about its own people if it tried for as long as there are communists running that nation
