Here it is! The long awaited sequel to Welcome to my World. I hope this isn't too tragic but this is based on a dream that BlairW_1 had a month ago and nobody got around to writing it 'til now. So, grab a box of tissues and enjoy!

Lost Causes

"Melissa Joy Bluementhal. 8 pounds, 8 ounces. Time of birth, 2:49 pm." Theodore Bluementhal showed his daughter off to Magda
"She's beatiful!" Magda cooed. "Can I hold her, Jin?"
"Go ahead. You know, she better not turn out like me. If she's as bad as I was as a teenager," Jinny Exstead stated, "I'll be disowning this kid. She put me through too much pain to be nasty to me."
Magda laughed and handed Melissa to Jinny. "You're really lucky, Jinny."
"Thanks. Well, you guys... I think that visiting hours are over and we're getting sleepy."
Magda stood up and patted Jinny's arm. "Congrats, Jin."
"Thanks." Magda left and quietly shut the door. "Well, Mr. Bluementhal, should we tell your parents tomorrow?"
Teddy sighed. "Definitely. Right now, I'm too tired to do anything but sleep."
"You're tired?" Jinny laughed. When Teddy tried to answer she said, "That was rhetorical, Teddy."
He laughed and kissed her. "Goodnight, love. I'll bring breakfast in the morning, okay?"
"Okay." She kissed him. "See ya tomorrow." Teddy left.
A nurse came in. "Oh, good. Everyone left. I'll take your baby to the nursery now." She tried to take Melissa, but Jinny held back.
"Why? What's wrong with her?"
"Nothing. It's routine. The baby always spends it's first night in the nursery. Can I have the baby now?"
Jinny looked at the child a moment. "Oh, yeah. Yeah." She handed her to the nurse. "Bye, Mel. I love you."
The nurse smiled and wheeled the baby basket out of the room.
Jinny looked around her rom. It was spacious. There were three dark blue upholstered chairs staight across from her bed, and a recliner to her left. The bathroom was to her right. A nightstand was inbetween her bed and the small bathroom.
A small smile crossed her face, giving it a girlish glow. She picked up a picture of Theodore and her dancing at Anchorside. A tourist had taken a Polaroid and given it to Jinny. She had considered burning. She hadn't wanted a long relationship with Teddy but... She began thinking about how she and Teddy first met and fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.

She woke up the next morning with a backache. She opened her eyes and saw a new nurse by the door.
"Hello!" The nurse sad. "I'm Abby. Would you like breakfast?" She asked.
"No, no." Jinny waved her hand as if to wave away the question. "Have I had any visitors yet?"
"Not that I know of, but I'll check. Would you like me to get your baby?"
Jinny smiled. "Yes, please. Oh, and something for my back? I'm really sore."
"Okay. Exstead?"
"No," Jinny said, blushing a little. "Bluementhal."
Abby opened the door and there stood Teddy. "Hi, Jinny," he said, his voice shaking.
Abby smiled. "I'll go get your baby." She left.
"Well..." Teddy started. "I brought you breakfast." He held out a breakfast burrito.
Jinny laughed and took it. "Thank you."

Abby came back in with Melissa. "Well, you two can leave after 10. I'll leave you alone." She smiled and walked into the hall.
"Wow... Jinny, she looks exactly like you." Teddy picked Melissa up and looked at her for a minute. "Wow..."
"Teddy! What time is it?" Jinny asked and started unwrapping her burrito.
Teddy looked at his watch. "Um... 9:45. Want me to go check you out?"
Jinny smiled. "Please." Teddy nodded and handed the baby to Jinny.
"I'll be right back, Jin."
"Okay." She put Melissa back in her 'crib' and started getting dressed.

"I can't believe we're parents," Jinny said when they were driving home. She turned around and took Melissa out of her car seat.
"I know." Teddy carefully changed lanes.
Jinny pulled the baby up to the front seat.
"Jinny! That's dangerous!" Teddy scolded.
"She's fine." She busied herself with folding her blanket.


Farther down the road, Sargeant Williams had pulled over a drunk driver. "Sir, can I see your license and insurance card?" He asked when he approached the car.
The drunk laughed, shook his head, ad sped off down the highway.
Williams ran to his car and reported it. "Put up road blocks!" He screamed into the reciever.

Meanwhile, Jinny had folded all of the blankets and gone through all of the things the hospital had given them.
Teddy saw a car coming at them really fast *are you ready?* and he said, "Jinny, look up there!" But Jinny had no time to look. A split second before the accident, Teddy screamed, "Jinny, the baby!"
Jinny doubled over with her arms wrapped around the baby and her chest over Melissa's head. She heard Teddy say, "I love you, Jinny." Then, she heard the sound of metal crunching and glass breaking.

Jinny woke up with a headache and a swollen cheek and eye. She ran her hand up over her face and grimaced.
Magda jerked herself awake. "Jinny! You're awake!"
Jinny whispered, "What happened?"
Magda sighed. "Um... There was an accident and you sustained major trauma to the head. You're lucky."
Jinny's eyes darted around the room. "What happened to Teddy and- and the baby? They're okay, right?"
Magda took a deep breath. "Teddy's in intensive care and... When you double over, you helped the baby alot, but, she didn't make it."
Jinny started sobbing. "My baby died and my husband..."
"You said, 'husband'. That's gotta be a mistake. You and Teddy weren't married..."
Jinny nodded trough her tears. "Yes... We eloped."

Magda was taken aback. "I don't believe it."
"Believe it. We didn't have much of a honeymoon... What am I sayin'? Melissa's here because... She's not here anymore. I didn't get to see her take her first step..." Jinny started to cry. "And Teddy... I want to see him. Can I?"
"I don't think--"
"Oh, good, so you'll help me get there."
"I guess."

Jinny pushed open the door of Teddy's room and took a deep breath. She looked over at him, lying under the sheets... So frail... she thought. So white. There are so many tubes and bandages and things--
"What are you doing in here?" A doctor questioned.
"Well..." Jinny stunbled to find the right word. "I am this man's wife."
The doctor smiled sadly and nodded. "Okay. I should probably tell you. He probably won't make it through the night, so if there's anything you need to say... You better say it now, because there probably won't be a tomorrow." The doctor shook his head and left.
Jinny kneeled beside his bed and took the lifeless hand in her own. She swallowed a sob, and started her speech. "Teddy.. I thought we had so many more years together. I guess I was wrong. I thought we'd raise our daughter, send her to law school, and she'd become an ADA, like you. I--" She gasped when Teddy squeezed her hand in response.
"Hi, Jinny-Girl," he laughed. "Why are you crying? Come here."
She couldn't hold the sobs back anymore when she put her ear to Theodore's chest an heard him breathing. "I love you, Teddy Bluementhal." She whispered.
"I love you, too." He squeezed her hand one more time.
Jinny woke up later that night and tried to shake Teddy awake. "Teddy?" His heart beat was growing faster. She grabbed his hand and said one more time, "I love you." But she would never know if he had heard her or not. There was a shrill whistle as the heart monitor showed a flat line.
Jinny's breath quickened and she started schreaming. "No! No! NO! Teddy, you can't leave me! No! No!"
The doctor from earlier, two nurses, Magda, and C.D. rished into the room. "What's wrong with her?" T first nurse asked the doctor.
The second nurse showed them the heart monitor. "Um... doctor. We lost him."
Jinny kept screaming. "No! No!"
Magda motioned for C.D. to help her pull Jinny into the hallway, but Jinny refused.
"Leave me! Leave me here! He's not gone yet!"
Magda sat down in the floor beside Jinny and pulled her head to her chest. "Yes, he is. Jinny, look at me." Magda oulled Jinny's head level to her own and cupped her hands around her chin. "He's gone. Let him go."
Jinny stopped screaming while Magda rocked her back and forth. She didn't hold the tears back.
