Yesterday after was rainy and I had had some time to kill in between my indoor activities. I decided to watch the first season episode known as the "Emergency". This is, in fact the first episode that I ever saw as a prime-time episode. I will probably never get my fill of the pay-phone scene! I was twelve years old when it first came out and I was so amused when Nell said "your purse! Your purse!" and Hazel Shermet's character went charging down the corridor! So funny!

It always makes me happy when one of my posts gets a response! Especially on a page as slow as this one has been for some time! What does the last poster (or anyone else) think of this episode in generation and Hazel Shermet's part in it in particular? In my opinion, Hazel is quite a lady!

This is one of my many attempts to stimulate some more conversation about this series by bringing an old thread to the top. Just in case the one and only respondee is reading this post, did you like the episode? Being that you were only ten at the time, there were probably some neuonces that went right over your head. Have you reaquainted yourself with it any time between 1982 and the present. I was twelve when it aired and there were several things in it that I did not get until much later. What did you think of Hazel Shermet's part? Do you remember seeing or in anything that was made before or since this episode? Do you think that she is a talented actress?

Because I have noticed various new people first coming to this site, I have decided to bring various old posts to the top in to let these people see what us old timers were thinking once upon a time! While this post is here, however, I think that it would be interesting to read from other people who remember what was the first episode that they ever saw.

The is the third and last thread that I am bringing to the top of this page for right now. Being that the "Emergency" is my second favorite episode of the entire sereis, I am very happy to see that it has been recently uploaded onto "Youtube"! It is up there in three parts. I would really like to stimulate some more conversation about the show in general and this episode in particular! Take care everyone.

It took a couple of days, but you came around like I figured you would! If you look closesly at the three threads that I brought to the top that night, you will see that they all pertained to an episode that featured Hazel Shermet. However I purposely did not mention her name in any of them! I wanted to see if you or any of the other wise guys out there would figure out that I was indeirctly writing about her! It was a form of experiment. Last night I was contemplating posting a thread telling people how surprised I was that no one was already on to me! However, I decided to give it another day. Sure enough you acted in the predictable manner that you usually do! One of my other three posts also has a response and one of the episodes mentioned in this response is another one that featured good old Hazel! I am surprised that you did not have any fun with that reality either! After I submit this, I plan on responding to that thread but not how it relates to Hazel Shermet. I would not like to mention two last things in before signing off. In the first place, I am still quite curious as to what joy it gives you to purposely misspell Hazel Shermet's name! And last but not least, regardless of whether she wishes you a Happy New Year, I do!

The first episode that I saw was when Samantha thought a kiss from a boy made her pregnant.

17. Sam's Affair (03/18/82)
Samantha mistakenly believes she is pregnant.

It was this episode that I began my major crush on Lara Jill Miller.
Also if I had to pick a 2nd favorite daughter...
I'd pick Julie over Katie (never cared for Katie's 'dumb blond' routine).

Those of you who like the episode that this thread was originally about might be interested in a response that I just made on the "Facts of Life" page. The thread is called "Breaking Point". It has to do with an episode in which a student commit suicide. Some people have pointed out that that episode as well as episodes that dealt with other sexual and controversial issues get skipped over in syndication. They mentioned a similar situation in the syndication of "Family Ties". In any event, the episode that I wrote about when I started this thread is one of the more controversial episodes of this sereis. I watched this show quite a bit in syndication. I do not ever remember it being skipped over.

This is the second of two threads that I am bringing to the top of this page to see if I can stimulate some more conversation. I thought that the episode in which Samantha thought that she was pregnant was pretty well done. Like I mentioned on several occasions, Julie was the one that I had a crush on! Even though I was never really attracted to Samantha, I really liked the way that she acted in "Samantha's Protest". I thought that she did a great job of bursting Katie's bubble at the end! I also thought that Katie got what she deserved for acting in a manner that was, in the words of Julie "disgusting"! Finaly, because Julie was the one that I liked, it was great seeing her be proven right when she said that the handsome boy that they saw on their morning stroll was not whisteling at Katie but calling his dog! Priceless!

One thing that I happend to notice is a bunch of newcomers to this site. It seems that a lot of people have joined our community in the past week or so. It is because of this that I have decided to bring this thread to the top of the page. Just in case you are new to this site, there are a couple of things that I would like to know from you. In the first place, do you remember the episode that I first wrote about and, if so, what did you think of it? On top of this, do you remember what the first episode that you ever watched was. What got you started on this sereis?

I would also be interested in others peoples' comments about the episodes that we have already mentioned.

By the time that I submit this post, it will probably be two days since the forty-third birthday of actress Mindy Cohn. She played my favorite character on the "Facts of Life"! In any event, when I first read about this event, I responded to the thread that I read it on and then brought to the top two other threads about older babes on that sereis. I then came here and brought up two threads telling you guys about it, brought up two on "Friends" and three on the "Brady Bunch". Shortly before I came here, I started a new one on the page of "Mad About You". Because I did not manage to stimulate any conversation on this page, I have decided to bring this thread to the top as well. I think it is very fitting being that the "First Episode That I Saw" features two older chicks that I have a lot of respect for!

Because this page seems to be getting a workout at the moment, I am bringing some of my old favorites up to the top. Over on "Youtube" there are already some interesting comments about the episode that I wrote about when I started this thread. For instance, someone referred to the nurse that Nell dealt with as a witch! Also different people expressed different points of view about whether the cheif was right or wrong for getting as upset as he did. However, so far, only one person has commented on the pay phone scene. Someone simply wrote the phrase, "you may have to have it surgically removed"! This person was just quoting one of the sarcastic remarks that Nell made to the woman. I wonder how close we are to a time when someone remarks about the halarious situation in which the busybody is made to chase down her purse!

This is the first thread that I am bringing to the top of this page in celebration of a current event. The event that I am writing about is the forty-fifth birthday of actress Counteney Cox Arquette. I learned about this incident less than half an hour ago on the "Friends" page of this site. I have already responded to this post wishing her a happy birthday. Before leaving this page, I think that I will bring one more thread up to the top. The fact that I am bringing this one to the top is because the episode that I wrote about when I started it features my favorite older babe of all times!

The Emergency or the episode when Julie ran away was the first episodes I remember seeing. At that time, I though GMAB was too serious of a show, but in school many would talk about it, so that kept me watching. I truly like all season, preferably Seasons 1-5, 6 was ok, but just wasn't GMAB.

When you refer to the episode in which Julie runs away, my guess would be that you are writing about "Julie's First Love". This is the one in which she falls for a guy who works at a video arcade. I thought that this episode was pretty good.

I thought that "Sam's Affair" was a pretty decent episode. I loved it what Samantha said to Julie, "if you open your mouth, I will tell everyone about the Kleenex in your bra"!
