Popped this one in today while I was on my lunch hour. Another one of those easily rewatchable episodes. Here, Rick, contemplates whether he is deserving of a raise and how to approach Dave on it. Some miscommunication occurs, Rick gets p.o.'d and quits the firm, while Dave is perplexed as he had just got the ok from Mr. Kelly to offer a raise (unbeknownst to Rick).

In this episode, we have Dave updating us on why we don't see Mr. Dobson or Mr. Kelly in the office, so Dave is in effect the defacto lawyer in Dobson & Kelly. Of course, any reason to see Miss Edwards, is uhmmmmm

One question stands out--how can Rick (law clerk and still student) and Kris (student) afford to live in that nice suburban house, while Dave (now in effect law partner) and June (whose absence is explained as having a bad cold) are living in that small uptown apartment??

Hey Jude,
That always perplexed me, as well. Doesn't seem too realistic. Of course, I guess most O&H stuff isn't realistic!

Well, I wouldn't say the series was noted for being ultra realistic, but I still take it anyday over what passes for a sitcom today!

Even David made that observation about him living in an apartment and being a lawyer, while Ricky went to school, supported a wife, and lived in a house. I do remember back then that many people just rented houses, so maybe that's it, Ricky was just renting a house instead of an apartment. Apartments weren't as plentiful then as they are now either.

Don't forget Rick had that lucrative side job of singing. LOL

And I'm sure the Fraturnity paid really well too.

Other times Rick literally sang for her supper. What was that episode where Rick sang at a resturant to pay for the expensive meal he and Wally couldn't afford.

Maybe Dave was just saving his money so he could afford to buy a really nice big house like his parents.

Ricks house apparently only had one bedroom. In Kris' friend, Kris' friend recently moved to town and looking for an apartment was staying with them. Kris and her friend were sleeping in the bedroom and Rick was sent packing to the couch.

So he may have had a house but it seems like it was no bigger than Dave's apartment.

That episode was Any Date In A Storm, I just watched it last week. I've never seen the episode with Rick sleeping on the couch, but it sounds like a good one. I really hope someone does another set soon, and lots of the first eight season episodes.
