Do first-day sales of the season releases of a given series have much bearing upon whether future releases are made of that series?

The reason I asked is because I purchased the 3rd and 4th seasons' worth of "Hawaii Five-O," each right on their release days (1/22 for S3, 6/10 for
S4), and now CBS DVD is scheduled to release S5 on 11/18, I think. Could my purchases of S3 and S4, each on their first day of release, have contributed to CBS DVD's decision to release S5 this November?

i have seen it mentioned that the major studios and big retailers ONLY look at the first week's sales - if it doesn't sell out then, they don't reorder and basically consider it a "flop".

but I don't know how accurate that is, they certainly don't seem to keep a lot of stock on older titles anywhere unless they are the big "hits"
