One of the best films I have seen in quite awhile and certainly one of the best ever made about my ethnic group, the Cajuns. The story is centered around Beau Dupuis, played by Johnathon Schaech, who makes his living along the bayou and has to take care of his younger brother, played by Fred Koehler, who is mentally challenged. It turns out their daddy is fond of the drink and leaves them often for weeks at a time. Beau's girlfriend has just surprised everyone by eloping with the sheriff's son, who is also a deputy. When a tragedy befalls the sheriff, the son takes over and abuses his newfound power instantly by arresting Beau's brother for a crime. From this act, the consequences soon spiral out of control.

This movie has great character development, surprising twists (and that is saying a lot from me), and features authenic music and locations. It was actually filmed a month before Hurricane Rita hit the area and wiped out most of what is seen on film.

I highly recommend this movie for anyone wanting to see a great film that did not get big time distribution and is the type of movie Hollywood hasn't made about the Cajun people very often. (Another good one is "Passion Fish"). So treat yourselves, folks, you will not be disappointed!
