if so, how do you rate the US's chances in the event?

I guess I'll be watching. Yeah, i've really got Olympic fever! ;)

The opening ceremony is always interesting. I like the parade of the athletes form the countries, the pomp and circumstance, etc...

I'm really not up on the USA team, but I'm sure there will be something worth watching.

I dont know what it is, but I love the olympics. I have high expectations for this year.

well, to be honest, i am not a huge sports fan nowadays and besides, i'd rather be watching tv shows on you tube for instance than sport.

i think the US is going to do well, i mean, they are going to get a lot of gold medals that's for sure- they have a lot of competitive athletes esp. on the track and field. as for the UK, we are just going to be at our level best, though with the UK press on the athletes backs they will put pressure on them to deliver. which is not a good thing

i will be cheering on the UK, as well as canada, australia and the US. i am having mixed feelings about china- on one hand, i ought to be cheering on for them and that they do well in the events; on the other, i dislike the government, its human rights record and the way it treats its people

Ditto... I hate Communist China, and believe the country should never have been allowed to host the Olympics, but I'm still watching, because I get to see some of the best athletes from around the world, participating in sports I love, like Equestrian and Shooting, I otherwise rarely/never get to see on television...

i personally think that if china wasn't a rich country and was still run like a dictatorship, like zimbabwe, then they wouldn't have been chosen to host the olympics. likewise countries like zimbabwe hardly get a mention in terms of sport and like communist china it is run as a dictatorship and still treat its people like crap. therefore money talks- china despite its appalling human rights record and communist regime gets away with it because of its massive economy and the fact it is rich.

being of chinese origin myself, it would've been interesting had hong kong rather than china had hosted the games, regardless of how inferior they are in contrast to the US, china, russia, australia and the uk as a team
