I saw this episode a few weeks ago. It was the season 5 opener. I thought it was very well done. Ronnie Schell was used much better than he had usually been in previous episodes. I thought the part where Duke cried was particularly moving. When this was the last time you saw a man cry on a sitcom? They don't make them like this anymore. I'm looking forward to the DVD in the fall. Unfortunately, I hear CBS is planning to edit the music again. Oh well...
P.S. was there ever an episode that really "starred" Roy Stuart (Cpl. Boyle)? None come to mind, and in fact very little appears to be known about him, despite the fact that he must have been in about half the episodes...

I thought Roy Stuart was good as Boyle and worked well with Frank Sutton but I didn't think Stuart was quite good enough to carry an episode. Even in some of the short scenes with Sutton he seems a little awkward and and pushes the dialog just a little too much. Other times he's fine.He was almost the star of the episode where Carter takes a desk job. It was good when Ronnie Schell came back to the show but it seems like it cost Stuart a job. There's a story or two about Roy Stuart starring in the play of The Odd Couple if you do a search at www.newsfromme.com
