I was watching a 1st season episode of Leave it to Beaver today that had Clarence 'Lumpy' Rutherford being a bully toward Wally and Theodore yet later on Wally and Lumpy became friends. What characters from other shows started out this way?

Stephanie and whatever that girl's name was on Full House. She was a huge bully and berated Stephanie, but they hashed out their differences and became friends. And then they tried to set up their parents together.

I guess you could say Steve and Laura on Family Matters, though they were never "enemies".

Lindsay and Kim on Freaks and Geeks started out not liking each other at all, but then soon became friends.

So that would make all those characters "Frienemies"....a word coined for friends that are also enemies.....lol...

Zack and Slater on "Saved by the Bell". In the first season, they were fighting over Kelly. Once she chose Zack and Slater started dating Jessie, Zack and Slater became best friends.

In a way, Captain Stottlemeyer and Adrian Monk on "Monk." They were friends in the beginning, however, Stottlemeyer was kind of a jerk towards Monk early on. But as the show progressed he got a lot nicer toward Monk.

On "Space Cases" Harlan Band hated Radu, simply because of his race. By the end of the show, they were buds.

Here's another example of "frienemies" - Detectives Harris & Dietrich on Barney Miller. Even though Harris often couldn't stand Dietrich, the two were really each other's best friend. They even became roommates later on in the series run.

Archie and George never did become friends. I've seen every AITF episode about a zillion times and know they never became friends. They just learned to tolerate each other.

Lost In Space-Dr. Smith, Major West, and The Robinsons. In the beginning Smith plotted to kill the Robinson party, eventually he called off the plot and had a truce with the family.

Frasier-During the 1st season Roz and Niles didn't like each other but later became friends. The banter between them was funny.

The hostility between the Dukes and Boss Hogg/Rosco P. Coltrane seemed to have cooled down by the end of the series. They were even helping each other out by that point.

Benson DuBois and Gretchen Kraus (Benson) loathed each other at first sight, but as the series went on became staunch friends/allies. That's what I've read, anyway. I haven't seen the later episodes since I was a kid back in the 1980s.

In the 78-79 season of AITF it was obvious that they were friends because they were happy to see each other when George came back to Visit

Hill Street Blues - Frank Furillo and Joyce Davenport, Davenport always used to grill Furillo and his handling of the Hill Street Station in the early seasons, but eventually their relationship went to new heights when they dated and got married in later seasons.

Sanford and Son - Fred used to always grill people at any turn he gets. By later seasons, he didn't grill people as much as he did in earlier seasons.

Donna and Lamont - Lamont used to always disapprove of Donna by calling her a "barracuda" but in the much later eps. he befriends her.

The Simpsons - in the very earliest episodes, Nelson used to always chasticize Bart and his friends at every turn up until Bart found a way to combat Nelson's bullying.

Or what about the reverse of a enemy becoming a friend?

Diff'rent Strokes - Arnold and Lisa, when Arnold and Lisa 1st met, they were good w/ each other, but once they stopped falling in love w/ each other, they became bitter enemies around each other.

Niles and CC on the Nanny. They despised each other throughout much of the series run, until Niles proposed marriage to her during the final season of the series.

Judge Milton C. Hardcastle and race car driver Mark McCormick didn't like each other very much at the outset of Hardcastle and McCormick in 1983, but by the time the series ended in 1986, the judge was offering to pay Mark's law school tuition if Mark won at 21 (Mark did, IIRC).
