I firmly believe that if there's one thing that America enjoys more than the comedy of Gary Coleman, it's a cheesy minor league baseball stunt.

Kudos, then, to the marketing wizards over at the Madison Mallards for not moving to "the beat of just one drum" and signing Coleman to a contract, allowing him to take a few "Diff'rent Strokes" on Friday night. (Oh, I kill me.)

Unfortunately, The Gooch was umpiring the summer collegiate baseball game, ejecting Coleman before he could face even one pitch for having too much pine tar on his bat.

The Wisconsin State Journal had the play-by-play:

Herbert determined the (pine tar) amount was illegal and — after Coleman offered to "wipe it off'' — also found the bat to be corked. The umpire pulled out a piece of black rubber on the end of the bat and watched several "super balls'' spill out of the bat.

"Looks like you're going to have a short night," Herbert joked as he threw Coleman out of the game.

Coleman took more offense with the short joke than he did his ejection, bumping the umpire to the delight of the 5,000-plus in attendance. Eventually, Coleman set up shop behind the third-base bleachers, signing autographs (at $20 a pop) and posing for photos (those were free).

It blows my mind that with so much happening in the news right now -- gas prices easing slightly, a presidential election, the Cubs in first place -- somehow Gary Coleman showing up for a minor league baseball stunt/promotion was a top story on Yahoo! News for a while today.

Who cares about the future leader of our country. Who cares about record setting oil prices...

...Gary Coleman got tossed from a baseball game!

Yahoo!

(For the record, news or not, I did find this story to be very funny...)

OMG, he is so stupid! His reputation is already bad enough! Talk about a child star gone bad! That was pretty funny! Geez, and to get all worked up about being called short! The guy still looks like he's 13! Oh, and acts like it, too!

Sorry I dont think that is funny at all.For peets sakes this is the star that made Diffrent Strokes so popular. Its sad to see what has become of the child star of one of the must beloved sitcoms of all time. Ever since Diffrent Srokes the child stars from this show has had nothing but bad luck. Dana Plato could not even find a job and ended up robbing a video store. And then she ended up dead.
I know Gary has pulled alot of stunts ove the years. But I feel sorry for him.30 years ago America loved him and he was one of the reasons Strokes was such a hit.He was so darn cute and funny as Arnold Jackson. Its just sad to see what has become of the cute kid from one of my favorite sitcoms.
