Not sure if I can post this, I hope it's okay, but I found a video of one of Ed Barbara's old "bye kids" commercials online.

His story was shown on UM in late 1989 and apparently it's one of those that never made it to Lifetime...

PM me if you want to check it out.

Alternatively, you can Google the phrase "Ed Barbara" and "Furniture USA".

What was the story of Ed Barbara? It sounds really familiar.

Yes, Ed Barbara was a con man who attracted investors by claiming he had found an abandoned gold mine in New Mexico and that he needed money to excavate. As expected, he took off with investor's money. He was subsequently arrested and tried. He was convicted but fled, with his wife, during sentencing.

His story aired on UM on 12/13/89 I'm pretty sure.

He died of cancer while on the run.

I don't think the story was ever shown on Lifetime.
