Mine are all from Season 1, since the last time I saw any Benson episodes from later seasons was back in the 1980s! I don't remember them, sadly. :( Anyway, here goes:

5. Kraus falls in love and gets dating tips from Benson and Marcy ("Kraus Affair").

4. Kraus picking up the chair with one hand ("Bugging the Governor").

3. Kraus messes up the controls in Katie's play rehearsal ("Conflict of Interest").

2. The "romance" of Kraus & Taylor ("Bugging the Governor").

1. Kraus wails on the would-be hitman with the cane ("The President's Double").

Let's see...the episode with the guy in the German restaurant was "Lifesaver", and it's the final episode of Season 2.

And the other one is called "Calamity Kraus" from Season 4.

Great thread, Monika, and I'll add my own when I get a chance to think it through! :D

I loved Kraus so much that I don't even know where to start, but here's a few of my favorite early ones.

1. Benson was addressing Kraus concerning all the waste that was going on around the mansion.
Benson: Do you have any suggestions?
Kraus: Yes, unfortunaly their all obscene!

2. While preparing for a mansion reception, Kraus was telling Benson how she had thought of everything.
Benson: Can you guess what I'm thinking now?
Kraus: Same to you Benson!

3. After drinking a glass of Katie's awful breakfast concoction (Pepsi, grape-fruit juice, alfalfa-sprouts and some other nasty ingredients) in one gulp, she collapsed as she walked out of the kitchen. She than had to ask for Benson's assistance so she could get back on her feet. :winkgrin

^ Those are all great, blink. Inga Swenson was perfect in the role - I can't imagine anyone else as Kraus.

Ok, here's the thing with Kraus: there were great comedic moments (especially with her battles against Benson) and then there were great moments when we saw the "softer" side of Kraus.

My favorite comedic moments:
1) In "The President's Double", when Kraus was beating the assassin with the cane. Yeah, she really beat the hell out of him!
2) In "The Honeymooners", when Kraus ends up (accidentally) married to Benson rather than her fiance Arnold. (Especially the way he chides her about it: "Honey, I'm home!" And even funnier: "By the way, sweetheart...last night? WONDERFUL!!"
3) In "That Ain't Sheik", when Kraus throws the sheik out the door of the kitchen. Benson hated him too so they shared a rare moment of alliance. (Benson: You know, Kraus, there are moments when you are simply magnificent. Kraus: Thank you, Benson! Benson: Moment's over.)

And I know there are more. I just have to think of them. ;)

Now for her favorite more serious moments:
1) The whole episode of "Citizen Kraus" when she is trying to pass her citizenship test to become an American citizen. Benson helped her by telling the testing official that he was wasting his time and that she didn't know anything about our country. Getting under her skin riled her up and helped her remember the answers.
2) The episode "Teacher's Pest"; Kraus has to pass economics to get her high school diploma, otherwise she won't be able to keep her management job. You could see how Benson sympathized with her when she told the story of how she had to quit school when she was young to help support her family and how she barely knew any English.
3) In one of the last episodes "Hi, Society" when Kraus confides information to a "friend" that leaks the info and sabotages the administration. Kraus confronts her (she wanted to walk away) and yells, "PARK IT, TOOTS!!" Benson is there to pick up the pieces again.

So Kraus had a lot of great moments and as you can tell, she is a big part of the show. I also liked how she was a real mother figure to Katie in a lot of ways. Seeing their relationship grow as the series progressed was nice.

So that's it for now!
(More later.) ;) :D

^ My favorite serious moment with Kraus was when she started crying prior to her date with Larry the Butcher ("Kraus Affair", Season 1). She was so terrified of people laughing at her because she was taunted so much as a child. :( That was a great episode because we 1.) saw Gretchen's softer side, and 2.) the viewers could emphasize with her.

Actually I'm glad you mentioned that--I sort of forgot about that one. Yeah, that was a great moment, and so early in the show's run which is kind of surprising since they were really trying to showcase Kraus as a tough woman.

Kraus was one of the more multi-layered characters on the show. Inga Swenson looked like she had a blast playing the part!!
