Ok, I don't know abt anyone else, but I always found their apartment to be a bit on the dull side. Not only that, it seemed so cluttered and not so clean. I always wondered why they made the set to look the way it did. With those shelves in the living room filled with clutter. That shelf thing, whatever you call it, where the phone sits, it is filled with clutter. Those 45's hanging on the walls. I just got a bad feeling abt their place. I can't imagine Shirley being content with how it looked. I so bad look at that apartment and think abt how I could have cleaned it up.

 I don't remember thinking too much about the apartment except for how it was in the basement and people walking by could look down into it. That bugged me.

Well there were a few episodes where it was showing the girls cleaning their apartment. They did put up wallpaper and whatnot, you can tell the difference from one of the flash back episodes.

But Laverne and Shirley were suppose to be in their early 20's so two girls right out of high school will just put stuff anywhere and not have much of a great decoration sense. Also, it was a “dark” basement apartment.

It was also probably the only thing they could afford. I imagine that two girls working the assembly line in a brewery didn't have much left after rent, utilities and food for decorating.

That did bug me as well. And there was one episode where the girls were changing right there for the whole world to see.

I think the clutter is what bothered me so much because as huge as the place was, it just seemed like things were thrown around. It doesn't cost much to unclutter.

I definitely liked the California apartment better. Although they did bring a lot of their clutter with them.

Finding guys to date was their main priority, house cleaning wasn't. lol!

Was that a bricked-up doorway in the California apartment? There was a TV set in front of it, and a painting or portrait posted on it.

I liked that basement apt. for some reason. It was funny seeing peoples feet walk by the window.

Laverne and Shirley were working class people. And remember it took place in the late 50's-early 60's. People back than lived according to their income level . Unlike these days young people running up their credit to have a fancy apt. with nice furniture and a nice brand new car. Young people on their own and poor people lived like that back than. I thought the apt. captured the time period, and it really looked like it would be in a working class neighborhood and have two girls that worked in a brewery living there!

Laverne & Shirley were girls from the other side of tracks who were just making it by on their own. I remember a video interview of Cindy Williams about the apt. She said the first set was the redone apt from The Odd Couple which had just ended. It had rugs and nice furniture. Penny & Cindy got into a fight with the producers and writers, that working class girls that were barely surviving on their brewery salaries wouldn't live in such a nice apt. During the night both Penny & Cindy brought clutter from their homes and redid the apt as if two 20 yr olds in the 50's would live. The producers were upset but fans weren't. I myself didn't like when they moved to CA, the Burbank apt was like every other nice apt on TV like Three's Company & Two Close For Comfort.
