NEW YORK (Reuters) - Television star Kelsey Grammer is back in hospital with an irregular heartbeat, two months after suffering a heart attack the actor has said nearly killed him, a celebrity news program reported on Monday.

The 53-year-old actor, best known from "Cheers" and his sitcom "Frasier," has checked into a hospital in New York after feeling faint, "Entertainment Tonight" said.

"(Grammer) is being treated for an irregular heartbeat, which we've learned could be a result of medication he was taking for his recent heart attack," the program said in a statement.

Grammer's spokesman Stan Rosenfield was not immediately available for comment.

The program said Grammer had canceled several television appearances on Monday to promote the political comedy "Swing Vote" that opens August 1. He will remain in hospital for observation for another day.

Grammer felt chest pains while paddle-boarding with his wife in Hawaii last month where they have a second home and was taken to hospital where he was found to have suffered a heart attack. It came three weeks after he learned the Fox network was canceling his new show, "Back to You," in which he played a womanizing TV news anchor.

The star gained fame portraying the snooty but lovable psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane for 20 years, first as a supporting player on the NBC comedy hit "Cheers" and then as the star of his own Emmy-winning spinoff series, "Frasier."

I pray that everything turns out OK for Kelsey. He's a wonderful actor and he truly seems like a great person. It's amazing how he went through everything he had to deal with in his life and be the man he is today.

they seem to think it's just a change in his meds, not too uncommon.
But it would make me very unhappy to lose him.
God, please look over Kelsey and his family. Protect him.

Chava was our family cat. We had him for six years. He was very old. We're not sure exactly how old he was when we got him, but he wasn't a kitten. He became really sick and passed away this year. :(

I know what you mean. I saw a kitten that looked so much like Chava (except it was a kitten) that it nearly made me cry last Friday at Petsmart. We bought cat food there.

I hope Kelsey is starting to recover. Best wishes to him and his family. I just started watching another show of his called Frasier. I've only seen the first six episodes so far. It's a good show.

I didn't start to watch Fraiser until I saw him in Back To You. I really enjoyed watching Kelsey. It was the writers strike that got me hooked on Frasier. It's a great show. I hope you have a DVR and record them. Lifetime plays 4 episodes a day.

That's what I Did. Being 15, I never used to like Fraiser cause of its maturity but now I love it. I caught up on it during the writers strike when I wasn't getting any new Back to you:P

I don't think I watched 5 episodes of cheers. I didn't like Shelly Long. I knew who Kelsey Grammer was but didn't enjoy him until BTY. So I knew him 1st as Chuck Darling before Frasier. I can separate the 2 charactors. I see Chuck as Chuck and Frasier as Frasier. I can do that with all actors. I knew that Fraiser was a very successful show, but never watched it until this year. Have you seen him in Down Periscope? He was very good and very funny. I could keep going on and on about Kelsey.
I hope he's getting better.

Kevin Costner has urged fans to pray for the health of his sick movie co-star Kelsey Grammer.

Grammer was hospitalized in New York after feeling faint on Sunday - just a month after he suffered a near-fatal heart attack. And Costner, who co-stars with the former Frasier actor in forthcoming movie Swing Vote, is rousing support for the 53-year-old.

He says, "We know something's going on with him. We're thinking good thoughts for him. He's one of our great comedic actors as well as dramatic. No one can get at him right now, so we just pray for him a little bit."

I can't stand Cheers - it's one of my least favorite shows. I just didn't find the show watchable or funny over the years. But, I love Frasier - easil one of my favorites. I used to watch it during its original run, but haven't been watching the reruns on Lifetime lately - I might start watching again in the mornings.

And I'm praying that Kelsey FULLY recovers soon - he has to take more time off for himself, and just rest. His movie's done and out (Which I'm planning on seeing with my wife tomorrow), he needs to rest.

I never could get into Frasier. I loved Cheers though and he was great in that. It's sad what happened with BTY because I think the show might have survived if it wasn't for the writers' strike. BTY suffered more than most because of it.

I pray Kelsey gets well soon. He really is a great guy and a great actor. :)

I saw Swing Vote. Kevin was good in it. I think this movie shows how the media takes over. Both the candiates flip flopped.
So very much like the candidates now. But I liked it. When Kelsey's name came up, I clapped and cheered for him.

I could almost say for a fact it would have been still around if it wasn't for those damn Hollywood writers. It was building such great momentum before the strike, and even afterwards, ratings stayed good. Such a shame.

In a way, perhaps the cancellation was a blessing in disguise. I know Kelsey blames his heart attack on the cancellation, but truth be told, you never know what really caused it. Perhaps, Kelsey needs to take it easy and just enjoy the fruits of the success he has already achieved.

I didn't care for Cheers much either. I did see some episodes however. I have never liked Shelly Long and the watching a bunch of people setting around drinking doesn't interest me. Those were the main reasons I didn't get into Cheers.

We will never now if the cancelation led to Kelsey's heart attack, but I bet it had something to do with it. It sure didn't help.

You could be right, Brian - you just never know what would have happened. Many things coul dhave been factors in his heart attack. I just hope he fully recovers ASAP.

BTW, I plan on seeing the movie in a couple of hours. My wife and I are about to go to dinner and see the movie later. I'll tell you how I liked it tomorrow!

ET has learned exclusively that Kelsey Grammer has been hospitalized in New York and has cancelled four television appearances today. The actor, who was in town to promote ‘Swing Vote,’ began feeling faint and went to the hospital. We’ve learned Kelsey's condition could be the result of medication he was taking for his heart attack, which happened a little less than two months ago in Hawaii.

We’re told the medication has now been modified and Kelsey will remain under observation for one more day. Just last week, Kelsey talked to our Mary Hart about his miracle recovery, revealing that his health scare was a lot more serious than was first reported. "We originally said it was just a mild heart attack, and it actually wasn't very mild," Kelsey said. "They had to blast me twice and get me started all over again."
