SOPHIA PETRILLO-102.

Longtime Miami resident Sophia Petrillo passed away early Tuesday surrounded by family and friends at the Shady Pines assisted living center in Miami Beach, FL after a long illness.

Predeceased by husband Sal Petrillo and by her son Phil Petrillo.

She is survived by daughters Dorothy Zbornak-Hollingsworth of Atlanta, Ga, Gloria Petrillo of Escondido, CA, and brother Angelo. Also survived by extended family Rose Nylund-Dunn and Blanche Devereaux, both Miami residents.

Sophia Petrillo was born in April 1906 in Sicily to Papa and Eleanor Angelo, with two brothers, Angelo and Vito, and two sisters, Regina and Angela. She immigrated to the United States in 1923 where she resided in Brooklyn, NY. Following her husband's passing, she moved to Miami with her daughter Dorothy and after surviving a stroke in 1984, went on to co-run the South Beach Hotel "Golden Palace" at the age of 86.

She resided for many years with her longtime friends/family Rose Nylund-Dunn, Blanche Devereaux, and daughter Dorothy Zbornak-Hollingsworth at 6151 Richmond St which has since been used as the exterior for several film productions.

Sophia was well known for her colorful stories and spunky character. She once stated that she had lived through "two world wars, 15 vendettas, four operations and two Darrins on Bewitched".

She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Thanks for the memories (and the Medicare) and rest in peace. We love you!

In leu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Lewy Body Disease Association at https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid=9772.

"Picture this....Heaven 2008"

I saw this over at the other site, but it's still very good. It's nice to think Sophia and Sal have now been reunited. As she herself once said, "May he rest in peace until I get there!" ;)

I'd already made a donation to the Lewy Body Dementia Association to honor Estelle Getty.

No, Miles' last name was Weber. If he left Witness Protection, it would be Carbone.

OH Nuts!

Thank you! I loved that obituary when I found it on The Golden Girls website. R.I.P. Estelle (Sophia). Now, Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche are called The Three Musketeers.

yeah, I was thinking his real last name was Carbone. I didn't care for The Golden Palace and didn't watch all of them, but did she date a guy named Dunn on it? Otherwise, I don't know where they are getting that from.

But that was a very sweet obituary for a great character. RIP Sophia.

Where the hell did the Dunn come from in Rose's last name?

The person who made the obit thought that Rose would eventually get married again and the person put it into the obit with her new last name.

Was that Miles' last name??

even though it wasn't rose probably wouldn't have married miles since in one episode of the golden palace she found out he had been seeing another woman who he said he loved just as much as rose....he later married this woman...so i dont see rose marrying miles...i dont know where the dunn came from though

Sophia's maiden name was Angelo?? When she had a brother Angelo? Why does it say she had a sister Regina?? I thought Dorothy always said Angela was her ONLY sister...although their relatives changed throughout the show on just how many siblings or kids they had.

"She is survived by daughters Dorothy Zbornak-Hollingsworth of Atlanta, Ga.."

I thought Hollingsworth and Atlanta, GA, was Blanche, not Dorthy?
