What is the theme song that pumps you up and gets you excited to see the show or gives you some energy. I'm sure some of it has something to do with your opinion of the show. Keep in mind I'm not asking for the best theme songs (for example my personal favorite is Leon Redbone's Mr Belvedere theme).... but Energy wise.

My short list I can think of. (in no special order, other then number 1).

Magnum P.I. - As soon as I heard that guitar riff start I was pumped! The "stashe" was gonna kick some Hawaiian bootay!

Kids in the Hall - With the first note played my excitement level grew.

What are some that pump you up?

Themes from Friends, Cheers and Wings--and
though not a song or sitcom, I like on Saturday Night Live, in the intro after the opening skit, where they have the jazzy background music and they introduce the cast.

Drew Carey Show- I liked the Cleveland Rocks song with the cast dancing and lip-synching to it.
Welcome Back Kotter- classic.
WKRP closing theme- Cant' understand the lyrics (if there are any  ) but it sure is catchy.
That 70's Show- The cast singing to it rocks. Also, Cheap Trick(who performs it) is one of my all-time favorites.

^ Yeah, the lyrics of WKRP's closing theme are intentionally gibberish, but the tune ROCKS. So does the CHiPS theme (I kid you not).

I love the version of the Law and Order theme that has come to be used for the most recent CI series. Very tough and driven, just like the Major Case detectives!

I believe it was originally used for the short-lived L&O spin-off "Trial by Jury" with Bebe Neuwirth, on which Jerry Orbach appeared in maybe a couple of episodes just before his death.

Archie Bunker's Place, which is basically a jazzed up version of the All in the Family theme
Rhoda (the jazzed up version)
Phyllis
Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley

Although Dynasty was mellow, The Colbys was energizing as was Dallas

I can't believe no one mentioned, Hawaii-5-0!!

I guess I'll throw into the pot. These are not in order of favorite to least favorite. These are just themes I love.

-The Greatest American Hero (Believe it or not)
-Star Trek TNG, same as Star Trek motion picture theme.
-Star Trek Enterprise
-Starsky and Hutch 3rd season theme
-Smallville
-7th Heaven
-Threes A Crowd--- Side by Side. Infact tha's the only thing about Threes A Crowd that I think was better than Threes Company.

As I look through the posts, many of the shows I didn't see when they were in production. Hardy Boys would be my speed but never saw it. I think back and wonder what I did see at that time instead.

I could easily post a few gazillion just because I like so many TV shows and so many have great theme songs- I agree with most of the ones already listed- a few other favorites that haven't been listed though-

MacGyver:)
Early Edition
Quantum Leap
Saved By the Bell
Family Matters
Step by Step
Growing Pains
Adventures of Superman
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
Superboy
Batman (1966 live action series)
The Amazing Spider-Man (late 1970s US live action show)
The Incredible Hulk (late 1970s live action series) (both the theme song and ending theme song are powerful. In fact, I think this is one show that is remembered more for its ending theme song than its opening theme song.)
Automan
Manimal
Street Hawk
Mork & Mindy
ALF

and of course, classic cartoons like
Superfriends
Spider-Man (1980s cartoon series)
Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends
Batman (1990s cartoon series)
Superman (1990s cartoon series)

.........
and tons others.
I'm particularly glad some others mentioned a few others of my favorites- The A-Team, Magnum, P.I., Simon & Simon, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, WKRP in Cincinnati, Welcome Back, Kotter, Full House, Family Ties, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley. And The Greatest American Hero.:)

I made a list once of my top 10 favorite theme songs but I can't remember where I put/posted it but I do remember the top 3.

1. Baywatch "I'm Always Here"
2. Step by Step
3. Blossom

I do remember that Laverne & Shirley, Roseanne (the theme with lyrics), Brotherly Love, The Golden Girls, Cheers, and The Nanny were on the list. I can't seem to remember what the other theme was or what order they were in other than the top 3.
