WELLINGTON, New Zealand - A family court judge in New Zealand has had enough with parents giving their children bizarre names here, and did something about it.


Just ask Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. He had her renamed.

Judge Rob Murfitt made the 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so that her name could be changed, he said in a ruling made public Thursday. The girl was involved in a custody battle, he said.

The new name was not made public to protect the girl's privacy.

I agree with you. I mean, if her name were just Talula, it's kind of cute, I think. It has kind of a Samoan or South Pacific flair to it. But all the other parts of the name added to it. I don't know why parents can't or refuse to see the impact on a kid, naming him or her in a certain way.

well maybe they have different rules, but it seems terribly intrusive of him to change her name just because he doesn't like it. am i missing something? i don't get it. demanding an offensive/vulgar name be changed is fine but silliness isn't an excuse, unless they have some crazy law against it or something.

I haven't seen "Parenthood" but boy, oh boy is Keanu Reeves right!!! I ADORE Keanu in "The Matrix" movies and I think he just became one of my all-time heroes! :cool:

I feel so sorry for this poor little girl. How would the parents feel if their parents and done it to THEM?! I mean, I know people have a right to express themselves or whatever, but honestly, these people could NOT have given it much thought if this is what they named their daughter.

I think the judge may have overstepped his bounds here, i mean, whats next...taking away the kids cause their Mom dressed them in checked shirts, with striped pants? 9_9
