View Full Version : The Lucy Show - a release in 2009
rjt100 07-22-2008, 06:40 PM CBS/Paramount to release "The Lucy Show" in early 2009. I was left a message from Ken Ross head of CBS/Paramount Home Entertainment and he assure me that "The Lucy Show" would be a great follow-up to "I Love Lucy." There has been a delay due to the public domain episodes (30 to be exact), music cost and restoration cost, but we can see a release in early 2009. I do hope they release the series in season sets. I can't wait! "The Lucy Show" is a classic series that gets overlooked a lot because of the popularity of "I Love Lucy."
TeeVeeCloset 07-22-2008, 06:44 PM Great news....I'll be thrilled to at least have the first three seasons released, or even just the first, my particular favorite!
Robert 13 07-23-2008, 11:27 AM Me too! I hope it doesn't take too long for this to get released. Season 1 is one of my favorites as well. Too bad they couldn't get it out for Christmas since it has the Christmas and New Year's episodes on it. :)

Jude The Obscure 07-23-2008, 01:02 PM Well, I hope this is true and I would be happy if just the Vivian Vance years see a release.
I don't understand how public domain episodes would delay a release--most of the ones are from the California era, not from the Vivian Vance years (I know of only two--The Barbershop Quartet and Lucy and Viv Put in a shower)
Lodee 07-23-2008, 07:27 PM I like the first season the best too. I hope that's what they release.
comedyfreak 07-24-2008, 05:38 AM Six more months until the New Year, LOL. I can't wait, got to have them!
An 80s Guy 08-05-2008, 10:23 PM This is so exciting!I'd love a season set of "The Lucy Show".The first season along with the second season were definitely my favorite seasons of the series.
comedyfreak 08-17-2008, 10:29 PM I wonder if we should wait for the complete series which may contain new bonus material like they did with I Love Lucy.

oh please don't tell me you honestly expect them to release a complete series set of The Lucy Show!?!??!! We will be lucky if we get at least the Vivian Vance years!!

Sad but true.
bencasey 09-07-2008, 02:12 AM If it sells well, why wouldn't they? It's Paramount, not those other crappy companies that abandon shows with regularity.
storrs19 09-07-2008, 11:36 AM Wow! At this speedy pace it will only be about 14 years before we have The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy on official dvd sets. Pathetic that it should take so long for a classic comedy like this to get a legitimate dvd release.
catlover79 09-07-2008, 11:41 AM ^ :yeahthat
TV DVD Fan 09-07-2008, 01:33 PM You shouldn't wait for a complete series. If nobody buys the individual season sets, they'll never be a complete set. They'll release season one, see it isn't selling, and that'll be it. The loyal fans always get screwed, but if it weren't for us buying all the individual sets, further season sets wouldn't come out. Then the casual fans can buy the complete set when it comes out. It's the sad truth.

Kirk W Morgan 09-07-2008, 08:02 PM I don't know much about these things but how do individual episodes of a TV series fall in 'public domain' anyway ?
You'd think it would be a all or none thing.
I hope 'The Lucy Show' gets the same TLC treatment 'I Love Lucy' got.:)
dakert 09-07-2008, 09:59 PM Kirk--WOW 14 posts in 6 years you must be one of those strong silent types ;-)
FilmMaker781 09-10-2008, 03:02 PM Everyone should keep writing to CBS/Paramount for an official release of “The Lucy Show.”
I am also extremely worried that if "The Lucy Show" does in fact get an official release that CBS will use music replacements just as they have done for ALL of their other classic TV releases. If that happens I just hope and plead to our loyal fans that they do not boycott the title on this ground. Successful sales of a season one release are absolutely crucial or we most certainly will not have the opportunity to see any more from the beloved Ms. Carmichael and in COLOR no doubt. The music unions are simply not making it easy on all of our favorite shows and especially since the studios want to clear the music in perpetuity. I also would venture to say that the restoration of 30 episodes is not a cheap feat in and of itself.
If you have already written to CBS, please write again. And if you have not written to them, what are you waiting for?! They need to hear from all of the loyal consumers who will make their investment on the restoration and clearance worth their while. Let them know you want to purchase an official beautifully restored and unaltered version of “The Lucy Show” with all of its music intact.
