I haven't seen the movies so really don't know nothing about it, but I'm sure many fans of the franchise are on this board. A new reality series is launching tonight at 8 on ABC. The winner will get to be on High School Musical 3.

I'm not watching, but I am betting this series will be among the hits of the summer, as the movies on Disney Channel did record ratings.

The phenomenal success of the "High School Musical" experience is brought to life this summer in an all-new original reality series that features some of the most talented teens from across the country as they compete for a chance of a lifetime, on "High School Musical: Get in the Picture," debuting SUNDAY, JULY 20 on the ABC Television Network and airing SUNDAYS & MONDAYS from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET for three weeks, then continuing on MONDAYS from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET through the end of the summer. Actor, singer/songwriter Nick Lachey is the host.

The series follows Lachey and the HSM faculty, a team of casting scouts with an impressive list of credits from Broadway, television and film, as they travel the country and host two epic open casting calls, one in Long Beach, CA and the other in Orlando, FL. They're looking for anyone ages 16-22 who has dreamed of being "center stage" - the high school quarterback who's never tried out for a play but has a song in his heart, the drama club extrovert looking to break into the big time, someone looking to trade the chess club for a dance routine, anyone looking to "Get'cha head in the game," as the hit song says.

Finalists will ultimately participate in a summer music program to hone their skills, all on location at Murray High School in Murray, Utah, where scenes from the first "High School Musical" movie were filmed.

At the end of the series run, one teen will be singled out for prizes that will include starring in a music video in the end credits of the feature film, Disney's "High School Musical 3: Senior Year," opening in theaters this fall. In addition, the winner will also receive an exclusive talent hold agreement with ABC and a recording contract for two singles with Walt Disney Records, one of which will be a version of the song from the music video.

"High School Musical: Get in the Picture" is executive-produced by Jay Blumenfield and Tony Marsh (both of "Here Come the Newlyweds") of The Jay and Tony Show. The faculty are Jennifer Malenke, Regina Williams, Montre Burton, Tiana Brown, Rob Adler and Chris Prinzo.

Disney Channel's "High School Musical" has been seen by over 250 million viewers and the sequel, "High School Musical 2," has been seen by over 195 million viewers in 24 languages around the world. The movies spawned stage productions at schools and professional theaters around the world, multi-platinum CDs, DVDs and books, a successful consumer products franchise at mass retailers, a themed show at Disneyland Parks in Anaheim, Orlando and Paris, a sold-out 42 date arena concert tour in North America and Latin America and a popular touring ice show around the world.

Kmart is the proud on-air and retail partner of "High School Musical: Get in the Picture."
