They lived in Santa Monica. I found this when searching for some other info.

"Sherwood Schwartz soon learned to do his homework before handing Reed a script. He contacted the Federal Communications Commission over an episode in which the Bradys install a pay phone in their house for the kids, knowing that Reed would declare such an act was illegal. Schwartz found his loophole - they were legal in Santa Monica - and toyed with Reed when the actor demanded to know where the Bradys lived.

Schwartz recalls, ``I told him, 'California.' He said, ``I know that - where in California?'' 'Oh, Southern California.' He said, ``I know that, too, given that we see all these palm trees. But where in Southern California?'' Schwartz hemmed and hawed for a while longer before telling Reed the Bradys lived in Santa Monica. ``I heard him yell, 'S---!' and slam the phone down. That was one of the best phone calls of my life. It wasn't very nice of me, but since he had caused me enough sleepless nights and caused Paramount enough money, I thought he deserved that.''

He was a stickler alright. Can you imagine how it would have been had Reed had the internet at his disposal rather than the encyclopedias that he often referenced?

He wanted to make the show more realistic, but isn't that why we watch The Brady Bunch?? Because it isn't realistic? It's idealistic, and that's why I love it!!!!

My brother thought they lived in southern Oregon. I believed that because they were "out west" and 2000 miles away from "Harried and Hopeless", which could have been any number of places in CA or OR.

Looking back though, it is obvious they were in Southern CA.

He said he didn't want Brady Bunch on his tombstone, and it isn't! (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=2407)

It may not be on his tombstone, but it is part of his legacy. And being one of the fondest remembered TV dads is not a bad thing!

That's true, it's not. I'm glad I didn't know he was like that until after the series was over. It might have ruined it for me.

I always thought they lived right around Burbank too. Or at least closer to LA.

So true my friend, so true. What would he rather have? The legacy of Charles Manson? Or the legacy of some pathetic human being who made people miserable? Instead, he has the legacy of being, as you stated, one of the most fondest tv dads ever. How many times did some kids growing up wished they had him for a father? I didn't, but I am sure many others were not as fortunate as me and therefore, could only look up to Mike Brady.

I always felt the Bradys lived in the valley, near Los Angeles somewhere.

The Beach
Santa Monica Pier

We never saw Jack, Chrissy or Janet at those places and Santa Monica was mentioned many times. ;)
Not all people who live in Santa Monica or by the beach even go to those places. Notice how people who live near monuments or famous places, don't actually visit those places? Only tourists or visitors from out of town.

We saw them there in the opening and closing credits. Those places didn't seem to exist in the Brady's World-lol

But that was to establish, "Here is where this show takes place." TC emphasized that fact, so viewers who were not familiar with Santa Monica can have an idea. You never saw the trio at the pier other than the credits. The trio lived nearby too. The Bradys didn't. They lived inland. Not all people who live in Santa Monica live "near the pier". It is a pretty large city. We go there several times a year to go to that pier. It is larger now than when it was shown back then on Three's Company. I guess you have to imagine that the kids had visited the pier enough times. That is why they went to Arizona and Kings Island.

This reminds me of when people denied that 8 is enough took place in Sacramento, a fact mentioned in almost every episode!

Who'd be stupid enough to deny that fact?

It was an obvious fact they lived in Sacramento. The father worked for THE SACRAMENTO BEE.

It was either one of the two brothers who argued about whether prisoner was spelled "prisner" or "prisnor" or the guy who climed Ronald Reagan didn't run for president in 1976. It has been so long I can't remember which.

And BTW, yes it was in Sacramento, which makes it all the more pathetic when you think about it!

Thank you for clearing that up Sixfingers. I had no clue as to who you were referring to.

I can't remember but in the Jesse James episode, Mike mentions the name of the city or town where the old man who wrote the Jesse James book lived. What was the name of that city?

Thanx Tweety. ;) My reason for asking abt the city is because there is an actual city here called SUNNYVALE which is up north by San Jose. The name SUNDALE is similar to SUNNYDALE, a fictional city for the show Buffy The Vampire Slayer. In that episode regarding Jesse James, Mike mentions how the town SUNDALE is not too far from where they live or something like that. Well, if they live in Santa Monica, I wonder what area he was referring to when he said SUNDALE. Just a thought. ;)

 at your post abt Reed advertising space linking to his site.

Glad you enjoyed that one :)

When I saw your question about the city mentioned in the Jesse James ep, I went ahead and grabbed the DVD and threw it in to see what the name was.

When I heard Sundale, I went ahead and looked on Google Maps to see if there was such a town in California... couldn't find it.

There may be a development or subdivision named Sundale sunwhere...I mean... SOMEwhere... but I sure couldn't find it.

Sundale does sounds like it could easily be a California town.

I haven't seen them for some time but it was one of the 3 who claimed 8 is enough wasn't supposed to be in Sacramento.

Sadly, the "prisner" brother died about 10 years later from pneumonia.

The guy who claimed Ronald Regan didn't run for president in 1976 fatally sliced the throats of both of his children after a violent argument with his semi-estranged wife. She divorced him after he was sent to prison.

Later, she married the "prisnor" brother, who had divorced his own wife several years earlier.

BTW, yes, I do remember their names, but I thought it best not to mention them.

I wasn't actually wanting to know THAT kind of info. I was merely asking "What brothers do you refer to?" because you said it as if someone here had been implying that EIE did not take place in Sacramento.

Waaay too much info on people I don't even know.
