Bay reassures 'Friday The 13th' fans

Producer Michael Bay has reassured Friday The 13th fans that his remake will be as faithful as possible to the original.

He confirmed that the movie, which recently wrapped filming in Austin, Texas, will include plots from the first two films in the franchise.

However, he said he wanted to give the update a "fresh" feel by introducing a new batch of camp counsellors and some unexpected plot developments.

Bay told Entertainment Weekly: "There are always haters out there, and you can’t get rid of that. We try to be faithful, and we’re fans ourselves. It’s like when I did Transformers - I listened to the fans, you know, but you still have to make your own movie by respecting what was done and trying to give it a whole new twist."

He promised that the remake will be "really scary", adding: "It’s also funny, as well. It’s a fun college adventure that goes awry. It’s not a movie I would ever show my mom! We don’t make these for our mothers; we make these for the fans out there."

Talking about the much-hyped twists in the film, he commented:"You’re just not going to believe the first 12 minutes! It’s a twist in itself."

The movie, which stars Danielle Panabaker, Jared Padalecki, Jonathan Sadowski and Derek Mears, is scheduled for release on February 13, 2009.

Agreed. Bay really should try to make something new.

I wonder if this is going to be an R rated flick. It sounds to me like they want to appeal to the youngsters with the cast.

his films seen to appeal to the younger market at least. still, if he is going to make a movie, then it should be based on an original script not based on some comic book francise, a 70s flick or some retro tv show. he should stop remaking old classics, but then again the hollywood film industry is all about generating big bucks these days more than quality movies

I don't even consider Texas to be a remake. To me it's just an add-on film in the series.
