I find Andy Dick's portrayal of Matthew Brock to be hilarious. However, in real life, it seems like Andy can't stay out of trouble.
"NewsRadio" is one of the funniest shows I have ever had the privledge of watching. Yet it seems that it's most remembered for tragedy and Andy Dick's terrible behavior.
The character of Matthew Brock is the exact opposite of the actor who played him. Matthew was naive, drug free, a virgin (up until late season 3). But in real life, he's a mess. Matthew, I could hang out with. Andy, not so much. Does it effect your viewing of the show knowing what kind of a guy he really is? If so, then I feel his behavior, is indeed hurting "NewsRadio."
Thoughts.

I will always love the show, and like the charater of Matthew, but I've heard enough of Andy Dick and think he just needs to go away and lay low for a very long time.
I too worry that it will make people think less of the show, but I know it won't change my opinion.

What ticks me off is when people judge the show simply because Andy Dick was in it. It's an ensemble show! If you don't like Andy Dick, check it out for Phil Hartman or Dave Foley or Stephen Root.
It seems like "NewsRadio" is best known for the Hartman tragedy and Andy Dick's drug/alcohol/etc. problems and not so much for being a funny show.
Though I will say that recently I lent my DVDs to a couple of friends of mine and they're fans now. They both even like Matthew, even though one of them has mentioned not liking Andy Dick in general.

I don't think so. I'm sure the real fans of the show aren't going to get turned off just because Andy's being a Dick and at the end of the day, those are the ones that count, the real fans. If people hear about Andy doing something stupid and decide never to watch Newsradio, well that's just stupid cause they'll miss out on a great show. Look at Michael Richards. He did something very stupid a few years ago. It doesn't mean I'm going to stop watching Seinfeld and laughing at the crazy antics of Kramer and I'm sure as heck not going to stop watching Newsradio and laughing at Matthew Brock either.
However, I do think Andy needs to be put away for a while. Either jail or rehab or both.

It doesn't affect my enjoyment of the show. I was frightened by the mugshot though.

People who have common sense know that Matthew is a character while Andy is the actor behind the character; Two separate entities. Whenever I watch NewsRadio, I am enjoying the story and the comedy, and only dimly aware that I am watching Andy Dick, or Stephen Root, or Dave Foley until the credits roll. What actors do in real life is their business, and I don't let that affect my enjoyment of the show.
