Hey guys. I have a big doggy problem lol. I have a male Beagle Finn and a female Lab/Golden Retriever mix Bailey. Now the male is fixed but the past two weeks, he's become way too attached to Bailey. He doesn't hump but he licks her all over when she's asleep, which is okay, I feel that is showing affection. But the Bailey sleeps in my room and the Finn sleeps in my brothers room. I go to bed usually before my brother. I take Bailey in with me, and he sits outside my door and cries for her. I would let her sleep with my brother but she won't. I've tried and as much as I try to lead her in the other room, she gets upset and wants back with me. I don't want her upset either. So that situation doesn't work. Now for the past two days, he won't pee outside! We take him out when he has to go and then he just cries and cries, wanting back in the house to be with my other dog! I don't know what to do but he has got to go outside and I've got to get him to go back on his own, but I don't know how. It's weird this is happening, because neither dog is new. They've been living together for 1 1/2 years. I'm at a loss, I don't know what to do. Has anyone else had this problem and can possibly give me a solution? Thanks!

In this case... I would definitely talk to the vet... see what s/he says about fixed pets who are suddenly showing affection in this manner.

My sister has two dogs - both males and both boxers - and they're both fixed. The younger boxer likes to hump the older boxer occasionally... but that's the extent of the non-fixed behavior for them. It should be relatively normal to see them display behavior like that, but when it's getting to be like Kelly's problem... yeah. Not so easy to fix, I think.

If the bitch is in heat (not spayed) even tho Bailey is, he'll still show interest. However, these appears to be almost an obsession. If she isn't in heat, I'd take them both to the vet.

Now this is far fetched, but there have been incidents where dogs can detect cancer (usually in their owners), but it's remotely possible that this could be the reason for him always wanting to be with her (especially if he's always been the alpha dog and protective of her), and especially him licking her. Don't panic - this is only an "out there" theory.

Yes, he's fixed. I do want to take them both to the vet and I will as soon as he gets back. This vet has been our vet for all my pets, throughout my whole life, but since 9/11, he visits his family back in Pakistan alot. He's there now and won't get back for another week. Finn the male has lightened up on the behavior today, but he's still doing it. It just worries me, this odd behavior out of nowhere.
