do not attack me. i just always felt that while this show often dealt with women's issues and had many feminist overtones and undertones, did anyone else feel as though this show, while preaching about the importance of appreciating and respecting women, they were also kind of dissing men? like how the men were often treated, especially how eric camden was always being belittled by annie camden? i know if a man ever talked to his wife the way annie talked to eric half the time, the show would be pulled from the air and the station would be flooded by angry emails. same thing with how rose talked to simon and how lucy talked to kevin. is this teaching us to think women are superior to men and must bow down to women rather than women and men being equal?

Here's my two cents (in a non-attacking, completely peaceful way:) ). I do agree about the way Annie Camden acting like a complete tyrant in most episodes. This is one of my favorites shows but I've grown to loath the character of Annie Camden over the years. I felt that she was out of line most of the time. As far as for you reversing situation and saying: "i know if a man ever talked to his wife the way annie talked to eric half the time, the show would be pulled from the air and the station would be flooded by angry emails"... let's just say I would be one of those angry viewers =). Women in this country and most parts of the world have been oppressed throughout centuries so making a story about a man who is verbally abusive to his wife and marketing that off as "normal" would be touching a sore spot. It's kind of like how now a days, a black kid calling a white kid "white boy" or "cracka" would not be the same thing as a white kid calling a black kid "black boy" or "blackie". It's all about history; the oppressed become the oppressors. Like you, I agree that women and men should be treated equal. I will also note that there's no reason why sometimes the women can't wear the pants and have more of a powerful role, like men usually do. For me, it's nice to see at least one show where the women are in control:). That might be part of the reason why I like 7th Heaven so much.

okay...i am not in any way suggesting that there should be anything on TV, or films, or any medium, where a man talks down to his wife. all i was doing was making a point about how it is perfectly acceptable for a woman to talk down to her husband, or any man, on TV. i do agree with you about women being opressed and belittled by men for centuries and that is wrong. but all i'm saying is having the opposite thing happen does not make it right. and i believe that a woman can be strong and assertive without being bossy, or tyrants. as for women in control, yeah...i think that's a good change. but i also believe women AND men need to be in control. it's about equality, not one gender being better than the other.
