i agree phoebe. i used to post on imdb but the members there have all but ruined those boards. i noticed a lot of the boards i used to frequent have been dead lately and i think its because of how immature and hostile the members there can be.

every other board is littered with idiotic posts that consist of questions like "is so and so gay?" or "this movie/show is racist" or "so and so is ugly/fat etc". and then they sit there and ask why no one posts?! and forget having your own opinion on anything. the language they use is very obscene and offensive and believe me i'm no prude.

its too bad because a few boards i liked one being the miracle on 34th street forum but of course someone had to call john payne and edmund gwenn gay for sharing a bedroom in the movie and implied something was going on between the characters of john payne and natalie wood when hes alone with her in his apartment watching the parade!!

Amen to that! There are many other boards that are still around that I'm still a member at - but I haven't visited these boards regularly in years. *THIS* one, I've been a regular visitor the whole time I've been here. Just had my 6-year anniversary -- doesn't seem like it's been that long! I can think of one message board that I've been at for 8 1/2 years and another one I've been at for almost 10 years... but again, I haven't posted at them in so long.

I really don't have a favorite. I like almost everybody here. You people are all so caring, fun, and respectful. Like someone else said, I've been to other message boards in the past and the nasty attitudes that some people had, especially towards those they didn't agree with, was really sad. This is a really nice place to come to.

Half the time I feel like I'm on the verge of hanging myself because of Dad's death anyway and crap like that is the LAST thing on this earth I need right now. I came to SO hoping to make friends and have good conversation, not be put down in one of the worst times of my life which this definitely is for me. I totally agree with a lot of the people in The Complaint Department...the dumbest thing on this earth you can do is try to make friends. Maybe that's why God took the last of my family...in His wisdom He knew better than leave me behind with another human! :mad:

You should reconsider leaving. There are more than 1,000 members here at Sitcoms Online (even though 80% don't really post) and sometimes an issue or problem can develop between members. There have been people here that I've had problems with at some point in the five years I've been here. And there, of course, have been a few people who have had a problem with me over something I've said or done. I consider myself a nice person, but when I get angry I gan be really nastly and just slash out. And I've done that to a few people here. I wish I hadn't, but I'm only human and far from perfect. You can ask Kelly about a fight her and I had over a year ago. It got really ugly between us. However, eventually we patched things up. I know you are going through a difficult time right now. I can't even begin to imagine what you are dealing with. However, it is important to never give up on others.

They think they can say whatever rancid or stupid thing they want and who cares; they don't know you, and you don't know them. I used to moderate a board here and I ran into them too much. Whoever it is that insulted you doesn't know you. And they're probably the type with their head stuck so far up their ass that they can't take a joke. It's too hard to tell how something is being said over the internet to assume anything. What was a joke to you could have been conveyed as a joke to that person if you'd been face-to-face, but over the internet, people too often take things the wrong way, and then because of that annoymity, they go overboard with rage.

Long story short (too late! lol), don't let one stick in the mud drive you away. There really are many nice people here who have your back. I've felt like leaving I don't know how many times over just about everything, but I'm still here because of the small amount of people who are my friends, or are nice to me. Plus, I can admit to liking dorky TV shows and no one thinks I'm lame because they like them too. :) :crazy:

I'm really lonely and I'm not that good at getting out and meeting people so I'm trying to make friends online to keep from going insane until college starts back for me. Please, stay. I have been a member of this board since 2003; and there were many of times, where I felt like walking away, forever; but, I stuck around. I consider some of the members of this site to be a second family; of course, I have had my share of fights, where someone insulted me, or I said something stupid; it is just a fact of life. I agree what both Mike and Cathy have mentioned, there are some people, who hide behind a computer screen to act a certain way, where in reality, they could never be that bold to another person; so, please consider the source, and do not take it personally..(yeah, I know, easier said, than done); but, there are a lot of good people on this board, who are caring and just, wonderful human beings in general. I highly recommend that you stick around, trust me, you will not be disappointed; and another thing, if another member gives you any problems, you can always report them to a moderator, or send the same member a private message...

I hope I don't live a long life, like to age 75 or something...I hope it's more like a sudden anneurysm burst at age 30...I don't want to wait another 50 years to see my dad again. :( And meeting that "special someone" whether through eharmony or in person has been impossible for me no matter how hard I've tried. What everybody's saying is true, that I shouldn't let one inconsiderate jerk ruin this whole place for me. Like I've been saying, I'm just really sensitive right now and going online today and finding that post probably hit me an awful lot harder than it would have ordinarily. I know that out of the 6 billion people or so on the planet, there's going to be more than our fair share of arses out there and I need to let stuff roll off my back sometimes. It just makes me so mad because I wasn't rude in my post at all and this person had no reason to be so crappy to me.

I feel like I'm trapped underneath a big boulder or something and I can't get out from underneath it no matter how hard I try. Tell me something...does it REALLY ever get better? I'll listen to you, Jude. I'll just be glad when this depressing era of my life is OVER! I feel like I'm trapped underneath a big boulder or something and I can't get out from underneath it no matter how hard I try. Tell me something...does it REALLY ever get better? After the past seven or eight months or so, I'm far from convinced.

I've gone through a number of periods of depression in my life so in regards to that I can understand where you are coming from. I got so depressed in 1999 that I ended up in the emergency room twice. I've talked about that a few times here. In 2005 I also went through a period of depression that caused some major problems with me and other members of this board who were friends of mine because in my depressed state I was acting like a total jerk. However, as bad as I flet, eventaully the depression went away. Now, I'm actually the happiest I've ever been in my entire life.

I think going back to college will be of a big help to you. If you find yourself in classes that you really like, it will help take your mind off of some of your problems. It was actually a college history course that I took in '99 that helped bring me out of my depressioin. The course and the instructor changed my life. I think my best advice in dealing with depression is that it takes hard work to get over it. You just can't sit around and hope that you will get better. You have to work on getting better. I think school will help you a lot.

I'll be 32 in a little more than a week, and from experience I can tell you the older you get the easier you are able to deal with issues that pop up. I think the older you get you are able to take cartain things with a grain of salt that you may not have been able to do at a younger age. I am able to handle things better than I was when I was in my 20's and as I get older I think I will get better at it. There are still certain areas of my life that need work. For example, I tend to be a little needy at times. This can scare people away. However, I'm working on it and I know I'll get beyond this problem at some point.

I've found that however a person feels about me, the feeling is usually mutual on my end. That applies to offline life as well. It's certainly not hard to figure out who likes a person, or not. With that said, my favorite people here are the ones who I'm in contact with off the board, on a regular basis. That would be Brian D. (surprise, surprise), Sonny (ClintEastwoodFan), Jenny (FamilyTiesForever!), and Cathie (TripperFan).

I really don't have a favorite. I like almost everybody here. You people are all so caring, fun, and respectful. Like someone else said, I've been to other message boards in the past and the nasty attitudes that some people had, especially towards those they didn't agree with, was really sad. This is a really nice place to come to.

SO is a rare breed, for sure. A LOT of moderators/webmasters could learn from Janice, TJ, Seth...

ok, i like you all but i'm particularly fond of ireneparalegal - she's very wise and sensible and opinionated (which i enjoy) and always supportive of everyone. her words are always comforting to me. i kind of see her as the mother hen of the board

catlover - she's so sweet and always with a kind word that never fails to cheer me up. she always make a special effort to reply to a post of mine (as i'm semi new and sometimes feel like i'm on the sidelines) and i like sharing jokes with her.

dawsonsgirl - i like her tell it like it is attitude and enjoy her thoughts on all the "controversial" posts. i think if we met in real life we'd be friends. we like a lot of the same shows andsharea lot of thesame opinions.

classicpinup - a doll. always so sweet and kind. his posts always make me feel hopeful

We aim to please. :) There are still a few who enjoy taunting others, particulary those who like to bully newbies, which strikes me as particulaly cowardly.

I just joined a few weeks ago, so I don't really have any favorites. I like everyone I've met here! I will say that Ireneparalegal, Chocolate Moose, Solomon, FamilyTiesForever, and 88Survivor have been kind enough to send me PM's on occasion, which I really appreciate!
Plus there are several members that frequent the sections that I do, so I've gotten to know them a little better than others.

In any case, I absolutely love it here!:eyes:

I can't say I have a favorite because I haven't been a member that long.

Iris, because she's such a sweetheart. I like pretty much every member on here though- like previously stated, it's great to come on here after a bad/hard day and just talk to ethical, interesting and nice people. That goes for the moderators too- TJ for creating the site, Janice and everybody else.
